A Walk Up Ben Ledi (Just One Last Time)

A walk to the top of Ben Ledi, near Callander, on a cold misty day. This mountain has an easily recognisable shape that can be seen from many areas of Central Scotland. From the top, there are awesome views over much of The Trossachs, along with breathtaking views down on to Loch Lubnaig.
At 879 metres high, Ben Ledi is a Corbett, so not just as high as a Munro, but make no mistake, this is a serious mountain, and the walk to get there is steep and relentless.
During the hike, banks of fog and low cloud drifted to and fro; one minute you were enclosed in a misty white-out, the next the sun was shining and views abounded. I could not have picked a better day. A truly memorable walk.

Well done again eddy. I give your vijo,s, narration & music a 10*. They are all a great chill out to me. Being a sportsman I learned long ago it's the most impossible thing on earth to please all and there's always naysayers or doomongers.

Many people seem to ignore the Corbets and focus entirely on the Munroes. It's a crazy way to think because some of the best hills/mountains are well below the Munroe threshold. The "trolls" are getting worse on this platform. I tend to ignore them, sometimes that's easier said than done. You captured some stunning footage up there, especially the sections where you were cutting through the cloud base. It's always a mix of joy and relief when you get to the summit block :-) People need to remember music is subjective. There is no right answer (good or bad) personally I like it 🙂. another great video, hope you're well.

My goodness, the authenticity simply oozes from this channel. I've only just arrived here and I'm blown away with the depth of the roots that every word, note, pixel, idea and expression appears to grow from. I won't attempt to detail all the instances of what I'm talking about because it would take too long and you either get it or you don't. I'm hitting 57 this year and I'm only now through the recent past coming to value what 'truth' feels like because let's face it, there's so much bullsh1t in the world now that we hardly know whether we're coming or going with what we're persuaded we need to accept. The music hits hard. I love prog and I love rooted British music and while I'm not Scottish, I can sense that any natural expression that comes out of the island of Great Britain is worth a billion of whatever we're served up by the interlopers who are attempting to separate us from our origins with lies and propaganda via the poison of the mainstream popular narrative. Whether you agree with this diatribe or not, Ed, I'll just say I have really enjoyed the couple of videos I'm seen so far and I'm looking forward to checking out a few more when I manage to get off the treadmill. Sod the detractors. This is great stuff.

Yes, mainstream media lies and government mandate weirdness over past few years. I'm Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and have never forgotten just how beautiful our rural areas are. There are higher mountains ⛰ in other countries but the mixture of colours and scenery on the West Coast is wonderful, visited Norway and it looked bleak in comparison

Just started watching Ed last week. I’m addicted . Genuine laugh out loud moments , lovely scenery , some history and affable company , what more could a woman ask for. The comment in the fife coast walk about vegetarians “ you’d think they’d eat something you could pronounce , like turnip” had me guffawing for ages. Keep up the good work Ed. Wow again. I always feel as if I'm on these journeys with you Ed, and felt as if I'd climbed up Ben Ledi myself! Years ago I climbed a hill above Loch Lomond which was covered in deep snow, and it was one thing getting up there, but terrifying coming back down again. (I was with a friend so it wasn't too bad.) Never again though. So I understand why you avoid snow-covered hills. I think you managed to convey something of the sense of a 'divine presence' at the top of Ben Ledi. Quite stunning. Your technical skill in filming yourself gets more and more impressive. The sound from just the camera is just great. Apart from the technical side of it all, what brings us back again and again to your films, is your anecdotes and jokes, which are always funny and heert-warming. Then on top of your open, warm personality, you give us a recording of a very moving song, sung and recorded by you. In one of the other videos (about your guitars), I picked up that you greatly admired the late Lesie West, of the American band Mountain. I must admit I'd not been aware of his playing until then. When I listened to 'Theme for an Imaginary Western' from 1988, live at the Hammersmith Odeon, I was blown away with his guitar work. Easy to see where David Gilmour may have found an influence. Anyway - I can hear the influence, perhaps, of Leslie's playing in your own guitar work. And I LOVE the song. That IS the question -> will we be remembered ?
@EdExploresScotland

Hi Eilean. You couldn't have picked a better Mountain track. Leslie was a huge influence to many guitar players.

Hi Ed, thank you for showing me and my wife what it looks like at the top of Ben Ledi, we've spent a lot of time walking and cycling in the area when we had our caravan on a seasonal pitch in Callander and Aberfoyle, but never ventured up Ben Ledi. The pies are amazing from the bakers on the left as you come from the Stirling side, steak and black pudding was my favourite, and The Old Bank across the road from the baker did a very nice meal, they always had a roaring fire going on the cold days.

Hi there Ed. As I have said before, I'm quite impressed to see your music production skills improving and improving. First tune of yours I have heard with vocals. Here's a constructive compliment then: maybe use less quantization, especially on the drums. Most of the times I map the drum sounds to my keyboard and record them manually (usually Ï play in a large long loop and select a few bars I like most). Then zoom in to make manual corrections i.e. selection the kick drum sounds and using 75% quantization on that or move them around manually. Alternatively you could use what is called in the DAW I use, Propellerhead Reason, a ReGroove channel, in which you can set a "swing" pattern and the amount of moving the actual MIDI notes to this set swing. You can then tell various sequencer tracks to assign to this groove or not. Hope this helps! Great song structure and chord progression overall man. Kind regards from The Netherlands.
@EdExploresScotland
@EdExploresScotland Год назад
Many thanks for that. To be honest, I find that with mixing music there is such an infinite number of permutations and ways of doing things that I struggle with it all. If only there was just one button, like a Final Mix Button that sorted everything with one click. Take care.

Quite often I click on something made by young people. I call it the jangly music and I suppose it puts me off. The content of what you do and the ground you cover is much more important.
