Mine smells fine..I've had it about 2 months..the bottle shows it should be discarded after 6 months...which seems like a short time to me..I like it ok. but it seems thick to me..I used it one time under my foundation and I had a tempered glow but I'm 74 and it was was one more layer which I don't need...another time I mixed it with my foundation, which made it a bit too thick...finally I put it just on the areas I want to 'glow' and foundation on the rest and distribute it over my face with a brush which give me just one layer vs 2...that works the best for me...I have some foundations that are too dark and I add some fair- light to them, which lightens the color.

After I watched your video I went to the Charlotte Tillbury link and looked at how to use it...almost identical to what Elf says. Here's the Elf: can be worn 4 ways: wear alone, over or under makeup; mix with foundation; or use as highlighter.... And here's the CT: Four Ways to a Flawless Glow:Use alone; Apply underneath foundation; Mix it with foundation; Use on top of foundation to illuminate high points of the face..... For the price, even if it goes bad, the Elf is a better deal for me..although I've never tried the CT..b/c of the price...I might love it..I often find that the more expensive products last a long time and work better for me, and in the long run are often not that much more costly and sometimes they even save me money...

Many good points here, and thanks for doing the research and reporting for us! Double Wear foundation is kind of like that, sure there are dupes but the original lasts so long and you use so much less it probably comes out to the same! I've never done that test comparing longevity with CT versus the ELF filter liquids, but it would be interesting!

It's probably the applicator that is smelling bad. I had that happen with a lip product with an applicator in the past. Maybe the shape tape keeps because it's a higher end product? Elf is pretty inexpensive.

Very good point! I should decant some into a travel bottle, leave it for a bit and give it a sniff! If I do it, I'll report back to see if the liquid itself is also stinky! ;) Thanks for dropping a comment!

Ha I love looking like I have highlighter all over my face. I have very dull, dehydrated combination skin. I love wearing it alone and I love mixing it in with my skin tints. Mine doesn't smell yet but I will keep that in mind.

For me the key with using this is using a damp matte sponge. Also prepping with proper skincare is very important. I notice when I don’t use the right sponge or prep correctly it doesn’t look flattering at all. For me I like the glow look but it’s not for everyone because it is extremely shiny.

I use the belif hydration toner, cosrx snail mucin, cosrx eye cream, crème moisturizer, and the scinic spf 50 pa++++ sunscreen!! Hope this helps :))

It may seem like a lot but it all absorbs great for my dry skin and leaves me with a nice dewy base for my makeup:)

I’ve had other foundations start to smell when they go bad. I’ve also had liquid lipsticks with doefoots go bad and the doefoot grow green mold after a year or two. It’s not super uncommon. 6 months is a short time for a face product to be good for.

I rarely use my ELF... It's sub par to me. I prefer the "Maybelline glow perfection" one. ETA I just smelled my ELF I see exactly what you said 😮🤣

What shade do you have? I have 3 different shades of it (long story short, I was in the States for a trip and the color I *really* wanted was the third bottle I found, and similar to you it was very hard to find at the time so I bought the first two bottles thinking I wouldn’t find the color I actually wanted. Okay that wasn’t really short. 😂) Anyway, shade 3 is the most like the CT HFF as it is not very pearly/shimmery and offers some actual coverage. The other two shades I have are lighter and are indeed verrrry pearly and I don’t want them all over my face. Shade 3 though, I will mix that right up with foundation or dab it straight on, all over. Helps a lot that it’s a very close shade match to my actual skin tone as well.

Oh interesting! Mr bottle is fair/light…it never occurred to me that the pearl level would differ for shades. I know, it was so hard to get until recently, we can blame the TikTok rush for that I suppose! Thanks for the in depth comment, this was fascinating!

For me, the size is silly. I’d never get through it. Had the same issue with the CT one where it went stinky but I did have it for like 2yr lol. Replaced with the Elf one because I couldn’t justify the price of the CT one at the time. In future, I will just buy the mini edition of CT FF as it is the same price.

This is such a good point, if only they'd make a mini size that would be better. Most of us will never get through a foundation size bottle in six months, it's unrealistic. Thanks for dropping a comment, I enjoyed reading it!

I had the same Problem with the charlotte tilburry. I had it for 5 weeks and it smelled soooo Bad, so that i had to throw it away.
