My brother and I started jokingly guessing cliches the game has to do to win "most cliche story award" and we were utterly shocked when we were able to predict every single one down to the bad guys weapon of choice. That being said, we did have fun playing it so if you just want to fuck about in a co-op game, it's a good one for that

I thought that the fucking about with random garbage was the most endearing part of the game. That, and how your characters have their getaway car blown up during a high speed chase and decide that the best way to outrun policemen with guns and cars is a rowboat.
I played a similar co-op called We Were Here with a random dude the game assigned me to. We had fun and I was completely immersed and I still wonder if he's the only other human on the internet who takes roleplay seriously who isn't on a Sonic fan forum. Then again, in his mind we might have been secret hedgehogs the whole time because you don't actually get to meet face-to-face (well, clunky avatar-to-avatar) until the very end. Either way, 10/10, would describe hieroglyph towers as dicks of varying lengths and girths again.
fucking hell, I played that with a friend yesterday. Good game. Describing things as dick with sombrero-like foreskin, anorexic dick with nail in the eye, or stubby chode was the most fun I've had in ages.
Literally my only experience with that game was watching Soviet Womble and Cyanide being actual bell ends to each other, culminating in Cyanide leaving Womble the first chance he got.
Amusing note about the faffing-about-in-the-house bit; apparently if one of you screws about with the banjo and the other screws about with the piano, it triggers an impromptu jam session complete with rhythm-based minigame. And there's a cheevo for doing it. Saw it during Penny-Arcade's playthrough, it was pretty funny.

@@tbk2010 Yeah the game is just shit. However me and my brother enjoyed the shit out of the Escapists 2. That's how a Prison Break game should be made. Give the players freedom to play around and escape. Not just quick time event after quick time event in a shitty movie that wouldn't even be released direct to video.
I just this second realized why maybe Vincent and Leo are such bland characters; they're meant to be blank states, ae, skins for players to put on. Maybe this IS an excellent game for truest of friends in the world, because they can at least pretend THEY'RE the characters of the story. Although in my case I still wouldn't play as Leo, because I feel like playing as a character with a nose this fucking huge is just me adhering to Jewish stereotypes
I liked the idea that they had so many little things and mini games packed in that you could do together so you can bond with your characters and each other cause it's those things you remember when suddenly you have to kill your friend. I think the ending was really good simply because of that.
I thought the game was great! The hospital scene was especially cool with all the crazy camera shifts. It’s worth getting if you have friend you play games with!
Alex Shannon except it is completely needed and your close minded. The game is meant to be played locally and you lose a lot when you can’t see both, if you are playing with a random it’s practically impossible to play when you can’t see what the other guy is doing
To say that Cage was involved in this game would be insulting to A Way Out. I think most of the fun of this game is if you take it more as the personal experience of you and a friend roleplaying as these characters and going through the levels thinking as these characters.
I'm so glad I found this channel and found yahtzee again, I remember 5 years ago when I was 9 and me and my dad always binged watch yahtee's review videos every week, I'm 14 now and every time I watch one of his new videos I always get a sense of nostalgia of the days when me and my dad would watch him
While playing this, there were times I was jokingly trying to guess things ahead of time, and most of the time I was right, as I have seen a movie before. The one that gets me was when they needed to zipline across a thing near the beginning of the game "Well, there's not an option to take off my belt...Are there exactly two clothe hangers in this guard tower" To my disbelief, shock, and disappointment, there were in fact, exactly two clothe hangers in the guard tower.
I remember co-oping die hard on the sega saturn, and you had to fight each other at the end. The girl character was always faster so she won everytime. Being the younger brother that get s relegated to p2 has never been so good

I feel like how well you think of the game after playing it is wholly dependent on 3 things. Your relationship with your coop partner, how much you're willing to immerse yourself in the game, and whether or not you do all the little side activities or not. So someone who say, played with their best friend, roleplayed through the game, and didn't miss out on any optional objectives would have a totally different experience from someone playing with a stranger, who disregards the characters and just speedran through the main story.
I played with my brother with whom I have played every co-op game in the last 7 years. We just hated it. The dicking about was fun, but we didn't need a game to dick about. We could very well dick about on our own in real life.
If you want a similar experience but more entertaining go to VR chat, get a very sexy avatar with a friend and both try to run away from the inevitable swarm of Uganda knuckles running your way. That or Lost Plant 2
Typos aside, I can't agree more on the Lost Planet 2 suggestion. Though it pains me that the official servers are shut down... One of the most underrated co-op games of the last generation for sure.
When I first heard about a coop prison escape narrative-focused game, I was hoping for different play styles for each character and at least a tiny bit of non-linearity but instead I got another "press x 1000 times to open this door" kind of game. And it's really sad, cause I'm sure there are lots of interesting mechanics that could be implemented in a story-driven coop game
I think it's grand, the kind of variety RU-vid has these days. A channel for every kind of niche market... even one for people whose doctor has just doubled their ADHD medication.
If anyone out there want an actually good co-op game about escaping prison, just play the escapists two. There’s no story but the gameplay is super fun and there are tons of unique, well designed levels. It can also be played on solo with a different unique escape plan for each level
They also rubber band that final fight too. My friend and I did it twice so we could see both endings. The first time we actually fought it out and the second time we just sat there and nothing really matters until the very last prompts.
I felt like this game was made because, the creator was told to make Two Brothers a co-op and he did not. Promising that he would make a co-op if he was left alone.

2DOLA GAMING - I love reading but I much prefer being able to multitask with audiobooks. It’s a great way to get through the day at work too if you have a repetitive job.
A friend and I enjoyed the exploration spaces in the game since each character was treated differently. There were things that npcs basically told Leo to fuck off, but spilled their problems all over Vincent. I really enjoyed the game up until the 3rd person shooter part and the competitive ending (luckily both my friend and I stayed in character and wanted to win and argued the whole time on who deserves to win). Also I'm gonna be one of those folk who want a third ending; especially since we stayed in character, we were both super sad...
Me and my friend had a lot of fun throughout the whole game! The part in the trailer playground made us laugh out loud like crazy (you know, both Vincent and Leo sitting down at one of the toys and then being all awkward). It has some great moments and, imo, it should have ended with Harvey dying. The rest of the game was too painful to play - me and my friend kept trying to find ways to avoid having to kill each other... No such luck in the end.
tyrus1235 we also didn't want to finish the game but followed through because how Leo acted. I was really hoping that if Vincent won he gave Leo an option for the ending. Both ending were sad, but Leo winning felt flushed out compared to Vincent winning.
*If you’ve played through the game and want a laugh, read this. Spoilers* I was playing this with my best mate and after finding the game quirky and fun at times by playing through all the mini games, by the ending when the twist came I think the game developers shot themselves in their own feet. At this point despite being generic and bland, we had each attached ourselves to Leo and Vincent, so when Vincent revealed he was a (CIA or FBI, I forget) agent and betrayed Leo, I was still routing for Vince to let Leo off the hook after the crazy adventures they’d been on. Alas, the story didn’t give me that option, so as Leo (my friend) sped away on a speedboat with Vincent (myself) perusing in a helicopter, I refused to shoot a single bullet at my friend for the whole “boat chase” sequence. Nevertheless Leo crashes and then even after 5 minutes of idol standing by without harming the other character, we were still forced to murder one of them. Then we realised we didn’t give a single shit about the game, the story or the characters and that the only reason we were having fun was because we played through it together. And then I took out the disc and frisbee-ed it into Shawshank prison where it belongs. Sidenote the torture seen was far too short. Now I may be in the minority here, but in my life I haven’t come across the opportunity to beat up a thug for information with my best friend and I doubt I ever will. I never even got the chance to use the blow torch
Sounds like the ending to Splinter Cell Conviction's co-op. Except it at least had the narrative that you are two spec ops dudes doing VERY SPECIFIC spec ops things.
It gives away all immersion when you see Vincent turn sides. If they'd separated the players, in both gameplay and story, it would've been so much better. They could've separated the players, and informed the Vincent, that Vincent was a cop, then there would be tension, as one guy knew something the other didn't. It would also make gameplay better because you would need to actually work together, instead of screen watch, even the online gameplay and PC port have the split screen.
I won't lie me and my brother really loved this game, buuut it's definitely far from a 10/10 or from being a perfect game (Although I know we shouldn't really use a number system but it helps clarify the situation), more like a 7 or 6-ish since it wasn't really a masterpiece although the reason we still liked it was probably because of Brothers (We played on the same controller and got through the entire game pseudo co-op style lol). We love co-op games and this was one of our most favorite ones out there. I knew I had a feeling they had to have taken elements from a certain movie be it a cameo or be straight up used and copied, but nonetheless this review is fair while also being enjoyable as well.
I think as far as co-op games go, it's near the top of the list. That or I have missed some great co-op games, in which case hit me up fam. I need those!
I also played it with my brother and we liked it OK, maybe a 5/10 until the "twist". At that point we couldn't give a damn anymore and just watched the two endings without a real fight. It ruined the story and it ruined the co-op idea.
Quite a few movies ! In addition to "The Shawshank Redemption" (and, possibly, "8th Mile"), Departed (western remake of "Infernal Affairs"), Scarface and Heat (which was also ripped off by the last Splinter Cell game, Blacklist). Characters themselves are pretty much De Niro and Al Pacino lookalikes even though they are based on their real actors, one of which, "The Big Nose", is Director's brother and multi-lingual TV show actor of some renown.
This review is a lot more fun when you watch it with the awareness that Yahtzee played it with his girlfriend. (Yes I know he mentions it at the end. The middle bits get slightly funnier if you know preemptively)

It sounds like A Way Out should've taken more inspiration from Splinter Cell: Conviction. It's stealth worked perfectly for two man co-op. You we're so focused that you couldn't spare a moment to look over to the other side. You were forced to communicate, to get the timing and information you need. Co-op splitscreen in that game was so engaging, flexible and also featured a wicked ending, a showdown between the two characters. Suddenly not seeing your partners marker anywhere and feeling all alone after several hours of never being so. Knowing that he will not waste a moment, for he will assume you wont do the same. Knowing how many people you both have ruthlessly killed to get there and having seen many times how easily people die by your partners hand. How he hides in any shadow and around any corner, lurking, waiting for the right moment to strike at your back.. Unless you find his back first. Great stuff.
I remember during the construction sight you could do an arm wresteling minigame and me and my friend did it for like 10 minuits and we needed another 5 to let our fingers rest

A Way Out is by no means a masterpiece, but it is a good idea to expand on. Some points of the game and the story are surprisingly pretty good, and if someone were to take the basic concept and polish it, it would definitely be a very interesting game. In a way, it’s like a school project. Interesting concept, very poor execution (except for that weirdly good part)
IMO the worst part is the ending where the story bends itself over backwards to have it's "twist" where the two now fight to the death. Seriously here is just a quick list of things wrong with the ending Why was the one guy so against going back to jail, that he was willing to murder his so called friend? It doesn't even turn out well for him because he's forced to uproot his family and they live on the run forever due to numerous crimes including cop murder. Why was the other guy willing to die to try to bring him in? He got his revenge and got the apparently worth murdering over diamond ... so why not just let the guy who helped make it happen go? or at least let him get a head start to get away? Why does the game try to act like both sides are equal when one is an under cover cop and the other is a violent criminal who will murder for money without remorse? Seriously the dude BELONGED in jail he's not even slightly a good person. He's just not as bad as say ... a serial killer but that's not exactly the highest praise.
@@metazoxan2 lol yeah, I agree. It falls apart after a little bit of digging in. But despite that, the last handshake they have still feels very emotionally charged. I’m mostly frustrated that that moment had to come after the mess that is the story.
I like how you'd assume that if you are playing online you DON'T have to play in split screen mode, and you'd be wrong. I played the whole thing online with my boyfriend and indeed that section where you need to keep watch is just as dumb.
I mean, the holes aren't as large as you may think, and actually explain a lot of things, like how the wife of Vincent never mentioned his career, how he was so capable of literally any *fucking* thing, and why the police officers are stormtroopers at a flashbang festival.
So the ending is practically identical to that of Splinter Cell: Conviction co-op campaign. And the game also sounds like Conviction co-op meets Inside.
Same, but it's good to get other thoughts too. I disagreed with the general point of bland story, as we played it roleplaying throughout, exploring the whole game and were pretty into it by the end.
I agree that his opinions are harsh and sometimes misguided, but he’s a necessary evil. He’s one of the few games journalists I know of that will say “here’s what I don’t like about this” without a wall of journalistic logorrhea. Even for games that I love, I often leave his videos thinking, “You know, he has a point.”
He's right, the whole time I was watching the playthroughs for this game I was counting all the shawshank redemption references/ rip offs I could find. It was pretty much just a reenactment of the entire movie for the entire time they're in prison, right up until the end when they escape though the sewer.
