a week in hawaii (what i eat + mandatory island activities) 

Hawaii local here (Oahu)! Glad to see you enjoyed your trip on Maui! You definitely hit all the major attractions (Haleakala, Iao Valley, etc.) as well as tried some local grindz (pidgin for 'food') such as the local plate lunch (i.e., Chicken Katsu, rice, and Mac salad is a typical plate). For those thinking of visiting the islands in the future, don't forget to also try authentic Hawaiian food like Kalua pig, Lau Lau, Haupia, etc., as well as participate in regenerative activities that give back to the islands like volunteering at the lo'i or participating at a beach cleanup. We graciously welcome visitors who respect the land, sea animals, Native Hawaiian and local culture, and the local residents :)
