As a fellow writing student, "that's something I wrote, I hope you don't hate it" is possibly the most relatable feeling! Also, I thought it was great 😄
4:33 It's true that I will take every opportunity to fangirl about Schitt's Creek, but that show is genuinely a MASTERCLASS is dialogue writing. Each character comes with their own personal dictionaries, vocabularies and speak in such a unique style all throughout the six seasons. I love the show as audience, but their special about how they made it was also soo interesting, as they talked about the process of writing the show, building each character from their backstory to their wardrobe and then writing each individual episode and arcs
seeing jack work so hard for his dream life and also be so carefree about life at the same time is so motivating, assuring that everything is going to be okay and he is just so wholesome☺🥺 P.S Jack we are waiting for your book(No pressure tho but like the anticipation is killing me)👀
It's so lovely seeing your slice-of-life vlogs! I moved from England to Asia around the same time that you moved to America, so it's been nice to see your explorations and it inspires me to record my time living abroad too. Thanks for another fab video, Jack! Glad to see you're enjoying New York!!
Thanks so much for showing so much of NYC. Lived there in my youth 1980's and it was a very special time. I attended both the New School and NYU for writing and worked in journalism for most of those years. I still make it back several times a year and it never gets old, though covid took some of its might away and I know NYC and it will recover. Loved the glimpse of your life.
What a great video! I’m way out of your demographic, but I’ve followed you since you were in Uni and seen you grow and change. I’m so envious of this new chapter in NYC. What energy and excitement!
Jack is living the dream aha, it’s amazing that you get to do what you love for a living!!! :D Also guys, the 📚Book Club📚 is reading Jane Eyre for November! It’s a community dedicated to just Jack’s viewers :) and there’s nearly 1,900 of us! (details in replies if you want to join!)
that was the perfect treat during a Sunday morning, thank you Jack for sharing all these good vibes, I've never seen NY as a city I would enjoy (Italian from Milan, living in Paris) but this vlog changed the way I look at it now. Glad you're living it to the fullest!
the horror books coming in that cool box where every drawer is a book is so dope, had never seen that before. also yes jack flexing with the valentino sponsor and yes with fashion and literature collaboration!
I can’t tell you how proud I feel to see you grow, travel a thriving in your elements. It’s both generous and inspiring that you share your success with us, so thank you.
Does anyone else ever feel like when you watch these types of videos, you’re watching your friend grow? Jack, I feel like your videos have become so much more than what drew me to your account in the beginning, book recs. Your videos have been my happy escape during darker times. I think it helps that we are close (ish) in age and learning some of the same valuable life lessons, but you are now the comfort of an old friend and I love to see you thriving. You have earned all of this and I hope your exciting ventures remain plentiful. Thank you 💙
hi jack! you're living my dream (i did tv writing and prose writing at undergraduate level but would love to take it to a masters level). tv writing is so much fun! dialogue is key, but once you've got that nailed it's honestly so lovely to write. sometimes when writing my short stories, i would use tv writing to plan out how i wanted the scene to go and then add prose in, in place of stage directions. i used to have workshops where "the writer was dead" like yours - where you can't explain your process to others critiquing. it was always so fun reading other people's scripts and giving feedback, but so nerve-wracking when your own work was critiqued. however, once you get to know the people on your course quite well, it's always a lovely experience and you can feel everyone growing and progressing throughout. always such a fun process, i miss it so much. let's hope we are both successful in the creative writing world
Jacks dialog reminded me of a really lovely movie staring Sarah Paulson and Mark Duplass called Blue Jay. Its about 2 high school sweethearts who's paths cross again years later and both their lives are in totally different places. Would defo recommend a watch :D
Idk why this vlog made me emotional. It is a so nice to see you enjoying this brand new life in NYC. This video made it feel like everything is possible if you put enough work and passion into it. Hope we get more of those, good luck with your book ❤
I just have to say, your willingness and ability to travel the world chasing what you love is so admirable. I would LOVE to experience little bits of life in different places, but often I simply do not have the nerve to confidently go and DO it. I hope you are able to continue as long as you want to travel! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us!
Living in NYC must be wonderful for inspiration to write a book. People watching in the city surely could help bring some ideas. It's good to see you having a wonderful time there and having met some good people to help navigate and see/do things you may not have otherwise.
This video is filled with optimism and positive energy I feel like RU-vid is really missing that.. this felt like watching vlogmas form Zoella totally In love Jack good job 🤍
I'm a Novelist too and wrote 2 ya book when I was 15... its been nearly 3 years, and I've progressed! I'm working on 3 more novels that I hope to complete soon. Writers like you give me motivation to keep on going! Ps, love the dialogues. 🌸
Dressing gown sounds so dramatic to me😂😂 I love seeing you enjoy yourself here in New York! I was nervous that you’d regret it after your stories about your first time in the subway or being mugged but I’m glad you’re safe and thriving! Love your videos as always🖤
I minored in creative writing. Dialogue is absolutely the most difficult part of any writing for me too. Making it seem natural is a challenge, but what you shared with us was wonderful! I really enjoyed it.
I'm about to graduate from my creative writing course and i'm so glad you're doing it! it's been such an amazing experience and i've met some of the absolute best writers and people. our last assessment was pretty similar with the outline/full screenplay and let me just tell you it is so hard but SO SO rewarding! good luck!!!!
Firstly, I love how you have shot and edited this. Dreamy 😍 I'm also blown away by your motivation. It's so nice to see people invest in their passions x
Love McNally! Also, I took fiction writing with Gotham as well. I had a really great experience with them, I hope you are too. If you’re ever looking for additional writing feedback, the Brooklyn Public Library hosts creative writing workshops each week for free. It’s a free write session where people can choose to share or not. It was a great way to just try new things with other writers.
Genuinely great dialogue. At that turning point, I felt my heart sink - I almost wish you hadn’t extrapolated your ideas after, because I felt like the ambiguity of what *exactly* their history is adds so much.
I've been binge watching your videos for hours now since I discovered it. Totally in love with every single one I've watched! Thank you for making them❤❤❤
Aight let me simp. First of all you have me simping for a luxury fashion brand which hasn’t happened since I was a teenager and Olivier Rousteing took over Balmain. I want Valentino stuff now, especially that blue sweater. Next: all that reading has paid off, that scene you read us felt very genuine. Finally: makes me so happy to see you live the dream 😭 I started watching you during lockdowns and you kept me feeling human so so happy to see you living it up!! Keep it up!
Really loved this video and how you embrace life, it’s inspiring. Appreciate your vulnerable moment sharing your work, which you shouldn’t be insecure about as it was great 🙌
