I hear ya. Cabin fever is setting in. My section of adopted trail is in really bad shape right now. Heavy snow loads on the trees have snapped a ton of limbs and the saplings are folded over froze in the snow. We'll get er cleaned up soon though. Enjoy your trip!
Thank you. I am lucky to have the trail just a few blocks away so I take advantage of it often. The local chapter does an amazing job, and they just built a new section near the MN border that I'm looking forward to checking out. Appreciate the compliment.
Nice! I think if nobody else had written on it she wouldn't have, but it was full of writing. Your right though we shouldn't have did that. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful video of some beautiful country in Wisconsin. I have been through many of these areas myself. My family has land that backs up to the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Its certainly God's country. Looks like you had a great time minus the skeeters which I agree were HORRIBLE last year. The year before it was ticks. LOL Thanks for sharing your experience!!
Very little snow here this winter maybe that will help with the skeeters this summer. ;) what I didn't mention in the video is that once we got into sand country (west of Drummond) like hitting a switch the blood suckers were gone!
The North Country Trail Association will be having a link to this video on their Facebook Page. Check for that. Also, I was wondering how you found out about this section of trail
Todd McMahon Thanks Todd. I only live a couple blocks from the trail and my sister lives near the trail in NY. So It's kinda on my bucket list to hike from my house to hers. In the meantime She was up for a visit so we thought we would hike the longest continuous stretch of the trail here in Wi. The person running the NCT in Wi facebook page was very helpful with any questions I had.
My girlfriend and I plan to hike pretty much the same route this summer. Neither of us have ever been on the NCT and are coming from just outside Milwaukee. Is Mellen a good place to pick up the trail? Any tips for navigating?
+Alexander Van den Hoeven If your starting in Mellen you might want to consider checking out Copper Falls first. Nice place! We started our trip a couple miles west of Mellen on forest road 390. Otherwise it's a road walk from town to that point. Signage is good so you should have no problem finding it. The trail is easy to follow. We were concerned going through the wilderness areas since I was told that signs and blazes were limited, but we had no problem at all. Mosquitoes were terrible but we had record rain that summer. After county Rd. A the soil turns to sand. Then the mosquitoes were gone. There were many signs of bear. Paul Schoch campsite is near a berry patch that looked like prime real estate. In fact before our trip I seen a fb post that showed a picture of the campsite sign mangled from bears using it as a back scratcher. So they replaced the sign. But it was all bent up again when we got there so it must be a reoccurring problem at that spot. Consider that when choosing your campsites. Water is plentiful with a source near every campsite. Enjoy your hike!
