Bless you. I gave away over 100 plants because it became too much for me. Especially my huge philodendrons. Now I have mostly baby Hoyas, and about 15 other plants. It is much easier on me and I can actually feed them all in a couple of hours. Yey!

That why i love plants it keep u busy specially me since i had my still born baby i been in too plants and it keep me busy is like my terapy and it make me happy also im just start getting succulent they are soo pretty variegated one and they are less expensive i gave lots of my philo to my mom and sis i stay with my monsteras and anthuriums and hoyas 💚💚💚

OMG, thanks Harli, I am tired just watching you. When you show those plants going into that bathroom, I thought that was a guest bathroom and not your main bathroom. A cautionary tale to those of us whom have many plants. This can happen to anyone. Tomorrow, I am treating all of my plants, JUST BECAUSE. Happy Spring 🙂

I have a love/hate relationship with my microscope. I found two spot mites last week 🤦🏼‍♀️ I did sulfur and the next day they were all still alive. So I washed it all down and sprayed well with Captain Jacks. So far so good 🤞

Hey harli i don't remember if you mentioned, but once you spray the sulfur you are supposed to out the plants in a dark place or at least not into direct lighting. Sulfur should be done in the afternoon preferably to prevent burns.

neem oil works as a systemic if you do a soil drench because of the toxin in neem. I’ve read research and papers on it where they found measurable results where the toxin builds up in the system with regular watering. 1 tsp neem, 1 liter water and enough soap to dissolve the oil. just until it doesn’t pool on the surface anymore 🙂

for a year I tried everything to get rid of spider mites except neem cause I heard it doesn’t work. Then I finally said whatever it can’t hurt. I sprayed all my plants and also did a soil drench with it. And it worked. Haven’t seen spider mites since! 🤷🏻‍♂️

It depends on how resistant the mites you have are to neem. Some populations may have higher resistance than others. Great that it worked but it may not in the future! Great preventative though.

Also a tip for the hoya planty friends if u see ur hoya is not giving u new growth put warm water up to 115 f and dip the hoya for like 15 min the hot water will kill spider mites or flat mites it works for me 😊

The dish soap was most likely what caused the burns on leaves . Dish detergent is hard on plants , especially Dawn. I used Sulfur for 2 rounds of 12 weeks of biweekly spraying , even my begonias responsed well to it. I have over 200 plants, mostly Hoya, so I was treating for Flat Mites and Broad Mites. Unfortunately, those mites also attack other plant varieties not just Hoyas so i had to treat my entire collection. Either way it's better to have a few burnt leaves than deal with mites or other nasty pests.

I have all kinds of plants and have use Dawn dish soap on them for years and have never had any kind of problem. I run a greenhouse and we have used the Dawn dish soap, mixed with rubbing alcohol and water. Never had problems with pests or burning of leaves

@@becauseiamawezome count yourself lucky , because plenty of people have destroyed their collections with it, especially Hoyas. The worse part is sometimes the damage takes months to show, as it starts more in the roots.

@@cadavercakes depends on the dish soap. I’ve used method dish soap and never had issues. Castile soap is always better though and it’s what I plan on using in the future.

I had a Calathea Ornata that got taken over by spider mites and didn’t survive it. Weirdly, I had had it a while, but none of the plants around it had spider mites (I treated them all). Only one plant was newer and it was fine, too. It was so weird. But I’m relieved it wasn’t worse!!

Hi Harley. My story is quite different. I've been dealing with spider mites for a few years. I've tried everything. After feeling almost defeated, I took each plant (I have about 100, very small to large rubber trees) and sprayed them with diamatacious earth. All my plants are in one room under grow lights or in one window. No sun in the house at all. I had DE everywhere but left it on my plants for about 3 months. New growth is nice and green (or purple) and clean. No mites. Now that we are heading into spring, I will take one shelve at a time, throw them in the tub and give them a nice tepid shower. Clean up DE off of everything and head outside. To me it was worth it to see white powder over all my green and purple (passion). Good luck with your treatments and I hope you had a good time away.

the fuzzy succulent you have is echiveria harmsii keep an eye on it for rust, ive lost a few plants from that, i didnt know what it was then and didnt know how to treat it if i were to get it again, i would have copper fungicide on hand just to be safe.

Hey Harli, what really helped me controllng pest infestations are plant sticks. They are basically slow realease fertilizer sticks you put in the soil and they can last something between 4-6 months depending how often you water your plants. There are also sticks, that combine slow release fertilizer with some systemic pesticide. So just pop a couple of those sticks in your pots and don't have to worry about fertilizing or spraying your plants for the next couple of months. Of course it is not a 100% solution, at least for me - I still check for pests every now and then, but so far I have to say I am pleasantly surprised! Hope this helps

Use Neem for a soil drench. It's a systemic that will work it's way into the vascular system of the plant. When mites feed, they die.

Thought you were using mosquito bits for spider mites? When I had them I first sprayed with alcohol and poured clear hydrogen peroxide in the soil I done this for first treatment than made mosquitoes bit tea, and watered my plants with that for three weeks and that done it!

Oh goodness Harli, I really hate those dang bugs, I have been dealing with mealy bugs, I haven't gotten spider mites in a very long time, usually only when I have a beautiful ivy or a mini rose bush those always get spider mites. I use the camera on my phone to zoom in on my plants, that's how I found a thrips larvae walking around on my rubber plant.

Usually you need to wash your plants every months whether it has pets or not.its good for them in some ways

I love your videos. Question though, are you talking about false mites? Spider mites can be detected without a microscope but not false mites. I have been using maxiGro fertilizer that has sulfur in it. I have been getting great results as the sulfur is then systemic. For the spider mites, I use marathon, and this works great. I haven't got them on any of my plant's I have used it on.

You do want to clean off spider mites manually, but there are lots of pesticides that kill them and prevent them from coming back.

Have you ever used beneficial mites as a preventative measure? There are a couple plant YTers that I watch that swear by them and I started buying some from Nature’s Good Guys and so far so good *knock on wood*.

I bought that same microscope last year because I had white flies and it was a good excuse to spend $$$. My plants looked healthy from a disctance and there was little leaf damage (or so I thought). Turns out, I had white flies AND spidermites, thrips, mealbugs, scale, aphids, and of course fungus gnats. It was a horror show! Perfect timing for Halloween. I had been away for 6 weeks and the person caring for my plants did a good job keeping them alive, but had no experience with pests, except to tell me about the little black and whits bugs that flew around. I shared pics and video I took with the scope and posted them to a plant group. I think Amazon may have sold out on the scopes that day because everyone had to have one.

6 month update? I think I read spider mites treatment should be repeated every 5 days/week for a few weeks due to their life cycle. Home Depot carries some bonide spray labeled for tomato’s that contains sulfa and pyrethrum, effective against mites as well. Also a bioadvanced spray pyrethrum and soap.

Oh yeah, succulents don’t do well with insecticides. Like Neem will leave spots on them too. Pretty much alcohol is the only thing that doesn’t piss them off. 😂

@@aelder1961 all plants are susceptible to something. Hoyas are susceptible to mealybugs and flat mites. Aroids are prone to thrips and spider mites. Ficus are prone to scale and spider mites. A lot of it is dependent on your area too. I get thrips yearly but I’ve only seen spider mites once. I grow mostly aroids.

@@aelder1961 I wish I could say that cold weather prevented infestations but it doesn’t. I live in Massachusetts (hello neighbor) and still get bugs. Flat mites can only be seen under a microscope. But no need to check for them unless your plants are symptomatic (new growth drying up or complete lack of new growth, and in bad cases you may see damage on existing leaves).

I LOVED your T-shirt Naruto Sasuke and Kakashi but i wish if they added Sakura too 😢 And great job on the sterilizing of the plants BUT get rid of the sulfur very VERY well please it's sooooo harmful even if you wash it a couple of times it needs special chemicals to get rid of it completely.. That pump sprayer is a good idea. How do you be sure not to overwater the plants when going through this process?

You don’t. Overwatering is usually because of soil drenched often. Or left sitting in water too long, etc. she’s just treating them and watering in the process, so she will then let them dry out until they need water again. Overwatering isn’t using too much water at once. It’s using too much water too often ❤

I use Agromagen bio pesticide to treat and prevent spider mites in my house. It leaves a coat of spray on the leaves that helps kill off the eggs that may still cling on to the leaves. It’s all natural pesticide so no need to worry about root burn if you get it on the dirt. The 8.5 fl oz option will last a small grow area about half the year! Spider mites kill plants but stopping them as soon as you spot them is the only way to get rid of them.

This is also my current dilemma. To buy a microscope or NOT to buy. Will it make it worse for me as I have the urge to go through my house using it out of curiosity or will it be worth it and helpful for using on my succulents. And other plants... WHAT DO I DO?!?!?! 😂🤣😂
