Coincidentally I found this channel in 2018 recovering from shoulder surgery. It’s now 2024 & I’m recovering from foot surgery watching week on videos once again!
Pro tip for pasta sauces that are on the thin side: save some of your pasta water and add a little bit with the pasta to the sauce. The starch in the water helps thicken your sauce and makes it nice and creamy.
the sauce was thin because you evaporated it off before you even started, low heat and and combine milk with flour, slowly increase the heat to cook off the flour and thicken until simmering, as soon as you see bubbles done.. not bubbles from the start.. hope that helps
I feel like cooking pasta for 8 minutes in water, then cooking it more in a white sauce, and then cooking it more in the oven would result in overcooked pasta. What even was the point of the oven at the end when everything was absolutely already fully cooked after two goes on the stovetop. All it did was boil off the nice creamy sauce.
Yay im glad the older style week ons are back! Thank you 😊 Looking forward to seeing the other meals this week! I agree, that pasta definitely needed more sauce and cheese 😉👍 Hope Basil is ok? X
Return of the mike once again.. nice to see you back a little bit of advice for the sauce next time just slowly add the liquid allowing the roux to mix and thicken say 50 ml at a time and then it would have thickened and removed the lumps. If it's still thin as a water and flour/ cornflour mix and add until it's at the consistency you enjoy.
I full agree the first box is totally worth getting as long as you pick the more expensive items. you need to pick the higher people count and days. to get the best price. if you review each meal properly and work out the cost of each meal you easy see how expensive it really is. ***** why not try a week on Wiltshire farm foods. ********* so when you look at the two day you are spending £12 a meal. there is a massive amount of things you can buy from a supermarket for that much money. so 1st meal 50p pasta. £1 broc. 30p of cheese. dirtied a lot of pans and equipment.
I love your weekons! They are my comfort shows and I watch them more then I should lol. Love this format! The newer ones are fine, I'll take that over no week ons.... however this is my fav. Love 2 u, Gracie and basil
OMG YES. i was literally thinking today that you are that english guy i used to watch because i got takis (product that is rare where i live) and how i miss actual week ones
I just binge watched your WHOLE playlist of Week On challenges this weekend (no, I don't have a life 😂) so Im so excited to catch one 6 mins after its posted 😊❤🎉
Welcome back Mike and Grace ! These video-per-day Week On's are SO much better than the "Whole Week In One" videos ! BUT Where was Basil ?? I really missed him !
Love the day to day ones Mike- :-) Unfortunately as I live in the Highlands I can't take advantage of your link as they don't deliver north of Glasgow apparently. Neither does Hello Fresh. That'll teach me to live in a cave with no running water or electricity eh.
Well this is spooky, I've had a Gousto tab open in my browser for about 6 months now, I have a nose about now & again but never pulled the trigger yet. Could this be the push I need? I guess I'll find out in about 6 days.
It feels like half a meal or just the main bit. This needed topping for sure. Yesterday needed garlic bread or something. Also, I enjoy both styles of week on but I do love having a video each day to watch
I much prefer gousto to hello fresh for two big reasons 1: Recipe cards are much smaller. 2: gousto will tell you how to make a sauce or a seasoning or a curry paste, while hello fresh sends these pre made. I like this because it makes the recipes viable even without a subscription because you can still make the recipes independent of the service. Also my wooden spoon i got is the best wooden spoon ive ever had.
This is very similar to a dish i frequently make. I would have pan fried the broccoli, made the sauce in a saucepan, and excluded the cheese from the sauce and just put a small layer on top (because lactose intolerance)
Looks nice and colourful but reminds me of student food. Sauce was always going to evaporate, not enough of it plus the extra unnecessary step in the oven. My hubby who is more used to steak, spuds, carrots and peas, wouldn't be impressed. I am hoping to see you suffer at some stage, that's the entertaining bit! 😉
This needed a noise warning. Between the sound of the wire whisk and the noise of the pasta sloshing into the dish I wanted to stab screwdrivers in my ears.
