Mansour Alkmim then u just sell it n get that one. I just sold my series 2 for $250 so I wore it for 9 months and spent $100 Apple products r the only tech gear that holds a decent value. Everything else is worth next to nothing when it’s upgrade time.

@bsodmike
@bsodmike 7 лет назад
I'd be even more surprised if he didn't say that; Ben clearly has a strong grasp on the value of money; only a fool would be like "Yeah, whatever it's _only_ $1000 bucks" - it's a disposable item after all. Look at it this way, go cash $1000 from your bank, and keep in a drawer. Cash another $1000 and in 18-months, burn it. The former is akin to that Rolex you've got around (chances are, you'd be able to sell most Rolexes for more than that any day of the week - they do retain some value). Now that you've burnt that $1000, does it feel like a "whole hell" like a lot of money. I bet it does.

everyone can rant about the negative parts...but come on people...expensive or not, this is what people have dreamed about for quite a few years, and apple does a damn good job at doing it right. they can't include every single thing that is presented to them. and the platform they are using seems pretty damn great to me. only thing more futuristic to me would be a hologram watch. lol

I get more compliments on my Apple Watch than my best mates Rolex. I’m not even kidding. Personally I love my Watch because I’m a runner and a swimmer so it’s ideal. Function meets design. It’s funny to get so many compliments for a watch which only cost £369.

I have 57 watches and I’m quite surprised than the new Apple Watch 3 i bought (on Monday) made me say at the end of this week: rip my classic watches. The insane part of this tech device is it’s ability to be customizable with new bands depending on your suit. Btw great review and I just subscribed to your channel.

I love watches, and I have tried the Apple Watch twice. My problem is I get attached to the digital watch but then also feel bad for wearing it when I have spent money on mechanical watches. How do you find the balance in digital watch versus mechanical watch?

Hipster is wearing a smartwatch with a fake dial that tries to imitate a REAL watch. Real watches are timeless. Apple watches are soulless.
@dududududududududududu2247
@dududududududududududu2247 7 лет назад
Correction: IN YOUR GEEK WORLD, all a watch does is tell time. A nice watch makes a person looks classy; powerful. Smartwatches makes you look like a teenager. Sorry. It's a different level.
@dududududududududududu2247
@dududududududududududu2247 7 лет назад
"If you need a object to make you feel powerful..." Watches are about that. Watches are jewelry. Jewelry is designed to make you feel powerful (if you don't know). Smartwatches aren't jewelry. That's two different worlds. That's my point.

It’s really meant for quick trips to the gym or for running a few errands. Unfortunately battery tech still isn’t good enough to go a full day on LTE. Although if you’re around WiFi you can still ditch the phone for a longer amount of time.
@G1NZOU
@G1NZOU 6 лет назад
True but it's handy for jogging, stopping off at a store and using Apple Pay for a drink or something, and still having connectivity for phonecalls without carrying your phone in your pocket. LTE, bright screens, Bluetooth, WiFi, they all take their toll on what is admittedly a tiny battery crammed into a wrist sized package.
@ethanmerritt1936
@ethanmerritt1936 6 лет назад
It’s called “you’ll be on WiFi most of the time” 😂. You’re only ever using data basically when you’re driving or out on a walk. When you were in a building you’re on Wi-Fi which is most of the time. So four hours of data is awesome! Especially in that small of a device with that smaller battery

The Apple watch is a piece of tech on a wrist. The Gear S3 is a classy look. One device looks like a mini phone, the other looks like an ordinary watch that happens to have multiple functionalities
@G1NZOU
@G1NZOU 6 лет назад
Except it's not really "embracing the future" if it's obsolete within 2 or 3 years, a good automatic watch can go at least 5 years without a service, sometimes a decade, and with maintenance will continue to run decades later. With a smartwatch you're still limited by a finite number of battery recharges, and continual software updates that the hardware eventually starts to struggle with. I like the concept of smartwatches, and this one definitely does better than most with actual phone antennas inside now, but it's still yet another notification device that floods my mind with email reminders and other notifications when all I wanted was to check the time.

It doesn't affect the luxury watch market a whole lot, but brands like Fossil have had their stock price plummet after smartwatches became everyday objects
@bobalobalie
@bobalobalie 7 лет назад
+Håkon Andreas Olaussen In fact, the smart watch market is expected to up the mechanical watch market in about 10-15 years. The problem with the current generation(before smart watches) was that they weren't wearing anything on their wrists. It is thought that they will get used to something on their wrist. And frankly, once you wear a watch everyday there is a tendency to feel naked without one. In the future they will look for that nice mechanical watch to wear during the times they want to be disconnected. Zenith, Rolex, Cartier, IWC have all said they are happy with the smartwatch market for the very reason of getting watches on the wrists of those younger people who would otherwise never wear one.

This would be awesome. I have some amazing watches but i tend to wear the Apple watch every day. It is primarily for the activity counter but also for the extra data I get around calendar, weather etc. My guilt of not wearing my 'real' watches is ongoing and somewhat immense.

According to hodinkee's facebook, Fossil has gone from 83.75$ to 9$ since the launch of the Apple watch
@edgarmora2629
@edgarmora2629 7 лет назад
I also read the article of Hodinkee about the Fossil’s crisis facing the rise of the smart watch industry and I understand that is bad for the quartz watch industry (just like that industry threatened the Swiss Watch industry in the earlier 70’s), but my preoccupation is about the change in consumption trends for watches for the next generations, let me explain a little bit better. I am a millennial that loves mechanical watches and haven’t thought about wearing a Smart Watch at all but now that you can have your phone at all times in that Apple Watch I’m seriously thinking about getting one, Also I’ve been planning to purchase a high end mechanical watch just because I love them but if I think deeper there’s no much of a necessity for one once I own the smart watch; therefore the purchase of a high end Swiss mechanical watch will be for a status statement purpose and Apple is going there with the Hèrmes versions of their Apple Watch. And I believe that the vast majority of the next generations will see this point. Rolex, A. Lange & Sohne, Cartier, Tag Heuer, etc. will have to invest in brand building to stay as the top of mind for top status brands. Also as the growth of the smart watches will have someway affect the sales of mechanical watches, people instead of using a sports Rolex during the week and a Patek for the weekends will swap the Rolex for the Apple watch. Don’t you think?

Did not work as expected and only had it for about 14 Days. The watch would not make WiFi calls, Siri stopped speaking and would only provide written responses. I paired and unpaired the watch at least 3 times and spoke with my cell phone provider. They could not figure it out. They sent me to Apple. I spoke with at least 5 Apple senior technical representatives and they could not figure it out either. They had me take tons of screen shots, connected to my phone remotely and had me turn settings on and off etc...this just kept going on.. I went to the Apple store and they told me they would not replace it and could only send it in for repairs. Repairs! I nicely stressed This is a “New Watch” and I just received it. They did not care. They didn’t even show concern. They just told me to contact my cell phone provider if I want anything other than them shipping it out for review and repair...they said they would only replace it in store if I bought it from a Apple store instead of from my cell phone provider...What in the world! I was rotated with the senior tech reps and no one resolved my issue, they just kept saying they sent the issue to their tech team....They said if it’s a software issue they typically won’t replace it and that it could be something that may be fixed, “if” a software update is released. It obviously wasn’t just that cause the watch had been paired/unpaired, updated and anything else that can be attempted to fix the problem..in addition it was transferring my calls from my phone to the Apple Watch for no apparent reason. I didn’t even have the watch on and the voice of the person I was talking to just transferred over to my watch..it was so frustrating and ridiculous. I spent at least 2 hours or more on the phone each time with their senior tech reps. O yea and did I mention I had Apple care...still no help. I love some things about the watch but it just didn’t work properly and the lack of receiving a resolution from Apple left me floored. I have never experienced service like that from them or lack there of...I ended up returning the watch . I have been an Apple customer for a long time and one thing I loved was the customer service..I am losing trust in them and questioning additional purchases...at least the reps I spoke with over the phone were nice and they tried.....Severely disappointed

the real irony is that all of the top phone manufacturers are making actual phone calls more and more obsolete. and in fact they really are i might use my phone 100 times a day but not make a single phone call. The second irony is that probably poop emoji will be much more required feature rather than a making a call via watch (sure, after novelty of talking to your wrist wears off) The third irony (which granted you have mentioned) is that super innovative watch will become obsolete in 2 years time, and will be replaced by much faster chipset, more cpu and ram... the fourth irony is that your cellular watch do not have a dual camera with optical image stabilization - so you have to carry your phone anyway probably the last irony is that none of the people (lets say vast majority) who actually work out (run, bike) who need GPS to take advantage of their workout stats don't use apple watch (check Strava for sources) rather they use an atual sport watch who don't die on you after couple of hours. and just an observation - are there any actual people who use AW to read magazines and/or long posts on tiny screen? if so - why?

Mechanical watches are jewelry. Jewelry is designed to make you feel powerful. One little secret: You think what?! Rich folks buy mechanical watches to tell time? Noooooooooooo. They buy it because they appreciate the finer things in life. The craftsmanship behind it.

Cesar Saucedo so here's the issue. What's the point of a smart watch when I've got a smartphone in my pocket, the apple watch series 3 becomes useful when you leave your phone at home and take Just the watch. But battery life is horrible when it needs to connect to LTE, run apps, cellular networks and Wifi. After 4-6 hours of on wrist use... It's dead. And what good is that if I start my morning at 6am and have a dead $1300 ceramic & rubber braclet by 11am, With no phone. Elegant and beautiful quartz Time pieces that double as "smartwatches " with notifications and smart tracking, NFC pay and still maintain a handsome price o Lf jewelery. From cheap ones from fossil to expensive time pieces from Breitling.
@elitestar
@elitestar 6 лет назад
try pulling out your fat phone from your pocket to check notifications while you're sitting in a meeting. Not so easy. Or even while you're walking down the street and your phone is stuck in your jeans pocket. Or while you're playing tennis and your phone is on the bench with your backpack. It's easier to just lift your wrist and see.

Apple's intention is to replace mechanical watches on the wrist. By integrating it into every aspect of the wearer's life, the wearer must ask, "why should I take this off when it's more useful?" But as Ben says, the Apple Watch will be in a drawer in 18 months from either component failure or to make way for a newer version. Watch lovers must default to their inner identity here. THERE WILL NEVER BE A VINTAGE APPLE WATCH. period.

Apple's intention is not "to replace mechanical watches on the wrist". Quartz already did that. Apple's intention is to sell a piece of wearable tech. Exactly, wearable tech. Apple doesn't care about your mechanical watch, they're not a watch manufacturer, they're a tech company. People wearing mechanical watches are NOT the market for the Apple Watch. Somehow, you take this tech product as a personal attack. But guess what? Apple doesn't know you exist.

I'm really surprised that his hasn't been mentioned before... I started with a Samsung Gear S2 then a Apple Watch Series 2 because I really love tech, but this got me more into traditional watches and now I actually have my first automatic watch on its way. So the influence goes both ways.

It is however only useful in my opinion if you are a 1 watch guy/girl. If you wear different watches then it becomes in a sense pointless to have this as you are eliminating one of the main reasons to buy this watch; which is because you don't need your phone.

How can you justify spending $1,300 on a device that will be totally obsolete in two years time at best and will not be even working at all when the battery is almost dead after five years? You may ask the same question for smart phones as well. However, phones have become necessities in today's world unlike smart watches which still cannot offer anyting more than a luxurious convenience. I wouldn't mind paying $8,000 for that Zenith, though.

Halid I'm still using the original Apple Watch with the newest OS on it and it works just fine. You people are silly if you think you have to upgrade your devices every 1 or 2 years. My iPhone 4, I had for 4+ years before upgrading to my iPhone 6 which I'm now starting my 4th year with also. I have the original Apple Watch, it's over 2 years old. I have someone that will but it from me now for $100. I'm thinking about it. HomeKit support in the Apple Watch it great!!!. It would be nice if Siri worked faster. It's still usable, but faster would be nice. Not sure about cell service as I almost always have my phone on me. You get get a Apple watch for a fraction of that ceramic Apple watch version. I still have zero interest in wearing a pain old watch. I stopped wearing watches when I got my first dumb phone as it showed the time. Why have 2 devices that show the time?. The Apple Watch does so much. You could even call it your portable echo device!

locutusv1 well said. Plus it's ridiculous that he tries to justify a comparison by both having ceramic material. Luxury watches are about longevity , a time piece for life. This Apple watch will be useless in 5 years if your lucky and the battery life at that point in time will be laughable

If u talk for an hour on ur watch, u have bigger issues than battery life. Apple can only go with what will fit the Watch with the best battery tech at the time. I was pleased with series 2 battery life n with my 3 I only intend to use it to get texts and calls for the hour that I workout n leave my phone at home because it weighs me down. I don’t expect for the battery to be less then 80% when I get home from my run, the series 2 was at around 92% after morning run. I will take a 10% battery loss to be connected on my runs instead of missing them. Idk, guess it’s all about how it’ll fit into YOUR life. I’m betting it’ll fit into mine better then the 2 did n I loved that. I also hope they get Better Battery life but the size factor is the limiting factor. I mean, I want better battery life on EVERY product. Battery tech is far behind n needs to catch up. Sorry for the book.

You really have sunk to an all time low. There are so many real watches you could have on this segment including real budget watches but no, you choose a ruddy apple computer ( i refuse to call it a watch), This along with your elitist stance, I gave you guys a third chance but this is the final straw . So many many watches you could have chosen, heck, how about a humble Timex, at least that has credibility! Unsubscribed... Again! Not that you will care a damn. Oh and I am sure there will be a bunch of sycophants calling me a troll or such but I don´t care. If critisim now is defined as trolling then this is indeed a sad world.

I think you misunderstand, it will never replace the watch. But i think it will replace the phone. If that was the case, the phone would have replaced watches many years ago. A mechanical watch is not about having the time, it's so much more. It is a statement, and the last accessory a man can wear! It's a beautiful piece of engineering that reconnects us to the past, and reminds us what marvels lay behind us and never to forget them. It's a well lubricated machine, that only works when every single insignificant part works together to create something magnificent. All these things.. a smart watch will never be.

Hi Ian - we always welcome feedback and though you refuse to call it a watch, the truth of the matter is it really could be one of the most important things to happen to this industry in years. You may not like it, that's fine, but us being us, doing what we do, and ignoring this important product simply isn't an option. We are aren't switching philosophies, or changing anything about what we do - we are covering an important introduction in the only way we know how - thoroughly. Come back tomorrow and you'll see some great stuff on mechanical watches again, promise. LTE makes it worth the upgrade and is a game changer, but still not convinced it's worth paying for the ceramic.
