I'm trying to keep my gear as minimal as possible, so I bought a Sony RX100VA to replace my bigger and bulkier Sony a6500 + Sigma 16mm f/1.4 combo I've been using for the last few months. I try the new camera in Lisbon, shooting both video and stills.

I bought a RX100 m1 five years ago and the first holiday I used it on was in Lisbon. I have been really impressed with the image quality and all its features. My friends can't believe how good the pics are compared with their ones. It is also fantastic at dealing with the low light conditions of parties / evenings out and outperforms phone cameras massively. The fact that it fits in my pocket makes all the difference to me. I have just got back from Greece and am now thinking of upgrading as, because of the very bright sunlight there, and no electronic viewfinder on the original version, I was shooting blind. I think the RX100 VA will be the way to go.

The rx 100 series is an amazing set. Recently had the opportunity to try the mk3 and was super impressed. Zeiss clarity really shines on this one.

Totally, they are amazing cameras for the size. You can make amazing images and videos with them. I think they are very underrated.

Which camera would you use, when you need to travel lightly, but still want high quality still images? The Bronica may be too big to carry around, particularly with a tripod. Personally, I just bought an old Pentax with the great 50 mm 1,4. Great images, lightweight and crazy cheap used.

The Bronica is way too big to carry around for a long time, I shoot digital when I want to pack light. I use either the Sony a6000 or the smaller RX100. I'm sure the Pentax is an awesome camera, that lens looks pretty good too!

to my eyes the video IQ even in good lighting looks noticeably worse than your old camera, but the weight reduction must be incredible

Interesting! I compared them both, recording the same scene with identical settings and the footage looked almost the same to me. I did color grade this video a bit different, but still, I don't notice that much of a difference. It might be RU-vid's compression or maybe just my eyes haha. But yeah, even if the quality was worse, the size and weight are not comparable. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, very useful!

@@aows I think maybe I would say it looks more like "video" whereas before it was more film looking. Maybe its from sony oversharpening in camera? I've heard that some of their cams do great 4k but only decent 1080. The boats @ 5:28 is one place I noticed it. Definitely not a criticism btw, you could film on vhs and we would still tune in to watch.

No, I really appreciate it! Editing a video can take me a few hours, I always color grade and add things like sharpening at the end, doing so after spending so much time in front of the computer might not be a good idea because I get used to the footage. I do see that oversharpening now, the "sad" thing is, I added that 😅 I'll be doing some more testing to see if it was all my fault or the camera is doing something weird. Again, thanks a lot for the feedback!
