Hey Maddie, nice visit and lovely video. I received positive response from Uni Kentucky, Lexington recently although I'm still expecting the official letter. It looks like I'm gonna be a PhD student afterall 😅. You are like the only PhD student that has a work-life balance; this is something I really want to emulate. How do you do it. Any tips?

Omg congrats! That's amazing news! Basically I went through a phase where I absolutely didn't have good work-life balance and almost dropped out of grad school because of severe burnout. You can go back to some earlier videos on my grad school playlist to see about that! I established some rules for myself to split up work from life just because there is always more work to be done. I try to stick to a normal schedule of about 9am-4pm M-F at work and I don't work from home since I have a dedicated office and lab space on campus. I don't even really check emails at home unless the subject line makes it seem immensely important when the notification comes across my phone. Other than weekends, I don't really take time off unless I am traveling, which is one reason I travel more than the typical grad student might. The biggest help is that my advisor knows me on a more personal level and knows that taking time for family, camping, travel, skiing, etc is important to me. He also likes all of those same things and takes time off as well, so we have mutual trust that I am only taking time off when I know I am still able to get my work done to a high quality and in a reasonable amount of time.
