I have included a link to the same video but it has better audio. • A Weekend with Chopper... Eric Bana spends a weekend with Mark Brandon Chopper Read to prepare for his role as Chopper in the movie of the same name.
Yeah, I knew he was gonna make it big when I saw Bana for the first time in this movie. His copying of this guys manners (f.e his constant way repeating his own sentences which are seen in this clip) down to him nailing his way of speaking perfect was amazing! (Yeeeh! Yeeeh! Fukin' Kin' Kon' roooigh heee!!) This movie is a classic!

Eric Bana has to be one of the most underrated actors of all time .. i can watch anything hes in the guy just has you hooked .. dirty john is a great series imo
@@sonofisaac6399 Eric was them things cos he was playing chopper, how stupid,, I'll change subject, I thought you laptop 1finger warrior were supposed to be clever, but you ever faced chopper,?? To talk like that about him, or am I guessing right in saying you'd fookin melt like a ice-pop on a red hot day, another envious wannabe
@@sonofisaac6399 its always muppets who haven't got the bottle to use there proper name and picture who talks all the shit now the man isn't even alive to reply, Insecurity seems to be jumping out of your pathetic post,.
@@JonJonJonJonJonJonJonJon it was a mid nineties interview with him n bana they told hi. When the film will be out in the year 2000. Dont jump down my neck if u already know this... just filling u in if u didnt
He had a certain panache and originality and i don't want Charlene Manson mentioning in same comment area yet it's not unusual for me to see this creature cretin in a space where he's not fit to be FFS!
This guy refused a liver transplant when he had liver cancer because he thought it was better spent on someone else. The cancer killed him. Think about that.
Very true and not fair considering over here, we're halving Grooming/paedaphelia sick wankers. Yep if cancer hadn't of beat him, one wonders....💋 💞💞RIP MARK BRANDON CHOPPER REID.XXXXX🙏🙏🙏
Chack out comnebt i think two voxes ahead and read what he says. Lol back he's a twat and i can't be bothered, can but i think he likes bullyibg the dead.xxx🤔🤔🤔😂😂
Gotta give him credit for that. Say what you like about him he had some principles. Any other cunt would have taken that liver & then ran a shitload of booze through it. The fucking tumour he had was a monster! He shows it off in the last interview 16 days before he died. My livers fucked through heavy drink everyday for the past 27 years. Nearly killed me 2 years ago so I stopped drinking for 5 months then back on it everyday since! I'll be out of here soon. My body is getting its revenge on me & its called a mutiny! Im fucking falling apart at age 43. Lost a few uncles to booze too. The booze will kill you faster than anything. I wonder if his drinking played a part as drank a lot but he was in jail a fucking lot so wasn't drinking then. Aussies fucking love a bevvy though. Aussies are sound. If I lived in that heat I'd be swigging ice cold beer all day too!
fredinabun ; it definitely wasn't the year 2000.this guy is a legend ahahah for fckin killing people.nah but seriously this guy used to "TAX" the scum bags, the lowest of the low,the heroin and rock dealers who kill more people a year than any fckin crimial, stand over guys in the world.RIP THE LEGEND.CHOPPER REID.
Apparently the entire Overcoat war in H division started because the screws armed up the local crazy person in the wing (Chopper) and mad him go after the Dockers who hated the screws and governor. The system used Chopper as a tool to fight against other criminals and later the Melbourne police use him the same way when he was on the streets. He was such an important informant and pasty for the police that they even gave him a bullet proof vest to protect himself (which Chopper was wearing on the night he shot the Turk). Chopper talks like hes his own man but he was just a government bootlicker and a yes man.
Method acting at it's best, i think Rusell Crowe, thought he'd got the part, I'm going to google in which filn role he didn't get, did he head but someone or cry like a girl as Bana in this was better, and by fxxxing miles.xxx😢😢😂😂😂😂😂
Eric is getting to know his material, ie., the looks, mannerisms, humor, darkness, charm, intimidation, goofiness, etc., etc. of Chopper Read. That's why he did such a great job with that movie, "Chopper." One of the best movies I ever saw.
"Top marks for treachery..." Has to be one of the greatest lines thats stuck with me, he wasnt even mad at his friend for trying to kill him, but rather encouraged him. Wild man. Bana did a great job
@@beerman7410 I started about 2 years before you I think the cheapest I remember Winnie blues was $7.10 I could get a 25 pack and a 600ml coke and have change from $10 That’s when winfield was the working mans ciggies Who the fuck can afford them now at $52 per pack?
The appeal with Chopper was that he had unarguable charisma and charm. He embellished a lot of his stories, but was most definitely still a dangerous psychopath. The man really is engaging and has a wicked sense of humour which does mask the fact he was a bad guy. I could listen to him all day. But I wouldn’t want him round my house.
@@rikijenkins6729 I guess it depends how you look at it. Throughout his life he probably hurt a lot of people. Which I’d say makes him a bad guy. But he’s still got this magnetism. I could listen to him all day. Not sure I’d want him round my friends and family.
This guy is a true talent. He has the ability to turn serious, dangerous situations into humorous stories that we can laugh about.Given the proper direction he could have been a multi millionaire. You could sell his material all over the world. The demand is high for unique characters like chopper
@@missyb9438 just another cretin who inserts the word *like* into every sentence completely unnecessarily. They need to be rounded up and removed from this world.
Chopper fascinates me, loved the movie and after seeing it when I was younger I bought a book up country when visiting a loved one. I don't read books, they bore me. But choppers book was entertaining and funny and dark all in one book, was an absolute pleasure to read. The whole book I read in 4 days. Brilliant. He's one of my heros criminal or not. Rip. Legend.
I met Chopper around late 2010 when he stayed at the hotel I worked at that time. Very charismatic guy, actually reminded me of my dad a little, as far his mannerisms goes.
I'm fascinated with the fact you met him and descriibe as charismatic as i agree with you, never had pleasure of being able to say I'd met the guy but the evidence to substantiate that he was not a bloody psychopath and was in reality a gentleman is just overwhelming. He is a legend and I've researched alot about him anx and his past, what happened to him in jail and how you or rather i would feel so safe leaving this historically kind man at my kids party. XXX😭RIP CHOPPER! XX😂🎉🙏🙏🙏🙏😔
@@helenwaldron5858pyscopaths can be very charismatic and charming, im sure he is a good bloke, doesnt mean hes a not a pychopath, they mime in the choir, they go through the motions, everything appears normal on the outside but inside there something missing, hes a legend no doubt, by a pysochopathic legend
I met him in a shop in Collingwood years ago. He walked in just before me. I was a youth worker then and we chatted about a few things. He said he would get the young kids into football and tell them to stay away from drugs. Out on the football field he would see them dealing. He said he became a bit frustrated trying to educate the kids and steer them the right way, and in the end, they just did what they wanted to do. I found him very open and friendly. He gave me his card as i left, and I would show it to people that i knew to see their reaction....LOL
I worked on the set of chopper with eric, did not see chopper three days i was there .thought he would come onto the set to show how he did it, but a lot of it was improvised by eric .
i read many of his books. legend R.I.P Chopper. " i used to like cutting off their toes" "cutting off their toes...what did you like about it?" "The way they just, pop off."
Chopper was a very funny fella. Putting aside his crimes etc for a moment,.....I'd have loved to have shared a pint and a chat with him. Fascinating fella. Certainly a very rare breed.
what a lucky bastard he is. free of misery, agony, and torment. I would much rather take my own life than be alive in a world where life has the remote control and it can do whatever the hell it wants with you, without you being able to change anything.
"possibly compulsively lying"???? THere's nothing "possibly" about it - He is flat out a bull shit artist. More of what he claimed was bullshit than reality.
No straight members of the public ever pressed charges, or complained about him, only other crims, So if your in that world, it's a "" live and die by the sword "" life, he just happened to be good at what he did to survive that long and become famous, and which brought so much jealousy and envy from straight go-ers and the crim fraternity, who tried to kill him a few times, but couldn't. He certainly was a character to be remembered
They are ( were in Chopper's case ) both Aussies so there was no accent to learn, but yes, Eric was amazing at Imitating Chopper's voice and mannerisms. There's no way any other actor would have been able to play this role so perfectly.
Chopper was undoubtedly a genius, that’s what made him so dangerous. Aside from the whole psychopath thing. Most geniuses have a degree of psychopathy though ….. no one else sees things as clearly as they do so ……
I just knew Bana was gonna make it big when I saw him for the first time in this movie. You're an imbecile.... Didn't do us proud at all.... He was a typical gaol bird bull sh#t artist and even a failure as a criminal hence all the gaol time genius 👍
Years ago someone gave me a gift. It was a copy of Hooky the Cripple. I don't know where she got it, it must have been Ebay or something. It has a stamp inside it from a school library in Australia. Nicest thing anyone has ever got me. I always wondered why he wrote that, I didn't know the story behind it. Now I know. Thanks for posting this.
No shit, Sherlock. I'm pointing out that he kept saying "The year 2000!?" as though it was some time in the far distant future, when it was only 2 years away at the time of the interview, ya fool.
Eric Bana absolutely played this character to the letter, I real appreciate the real chopper and this interview makes me realize how good Eric did , the real Chopper is a Gangster
I live on the Sunshine Coast .. I like a comedian not a smartness , like candles lit during a blackout, enjoy sitting on the beach after a short walk getting there, I'm not into barbie or dolly and I'm a VIRGO. I'm 8 stone, can bench press heavy weights and can crack nuts with my bare hands, just not walnuts. 🤔
Keefy: “what have you ever done that was good” chopper: “well I bashed you, that was good a laugh, good for a bit of a giggle anyway. Oh cmon Keithy you should thank me, you’ve got a head that needs regular panel beatin” 😂
In Ireland 🇮🇪 we had a fella called Martin Cahill. The Irish ☘️ version of chopper another great film. It’s called the general Brendan Gleason played him. This was my first ever film I bought still have it fresh. An absolute one ☝️ of 🙏🏻🇮🇪🙏🏻.
And on 20 (before this we see the minor character reittetating to Chopper the 'No cash' to make it even funnier for the audience and mske Bartos character loom even more silly Splendid film and Wylie who played Bluey Barnes was fantastic in deleted scenes He really was ages being sick. X, REGARDS
