This is just a short three minute clip on one of my favorite little Mepps spinners I use when chasing trout.. It's a oldie and a good one, plus it's still doing the job on the trout as all the Mepps lures do...There's also a couple of tips on it too that may be of some help for anyone who uses Mepps inline blade spinners in rivers...
cheers

I remember the ABU drroppen 2g. deadly for trout & perch & excellent for casting dew to it's streamlined body shape.

Hi Robin, yes I remember the ABU lures too, that was a very long time ago.. They were a great lure on both of those fish species you mentioned. Don't see anything of ABU now, I days either. I still have one of the ABU Garcia closed face spinning reels that I used for trout fishing many, many yr=ears ago. cheers Adrian

I use a #1 Mepps Aglia and it is by far the best fish catching spinner in my arsenal.

They're one of the best inline spinners around that's for sure.. cheers Adrian (meppstas)

Changing the hook is easy. See how the Aglia has an extra long shaft. Now, grab the bend of the shaft where the hook attaches, with pliers. Gently pull the shaft down through the body using a slight twist. The shaft (bend) should come down far enough through the body and unclip (it kind of "hooks" in behind the bottom if the body barrel). Now change the the hook and reverse the process. Your welcome.

I have a silver one from 1986!

That's great, don't lose it, I would have it in a frame if it was me, I have an old small black fury that I retired after it caught a total of 87 trout, I have it in a frame. Back in the day (1966) when I first started trout fishing in South Australia a silver bladed black fury was the only one available . They've come a long way since then that's for sure.. cheers Adrian (meppstas)

@@adrianwebb7399 The Black Fury always has yellow dots on black blade. The blade shape is called the Comet, I think!

That's right, you can get the Comet with red or blue dots on the blade and there's only two blade colours available, silver & gold. The shape of the blade is identical to the black fury as well, the comet doesn't have the small red bead below the brass base either. cheers Adrian (meppstas)

@@adrianwebb7399 I'm a devotee of the gold Aglia in 0 to 2. No dressing except maybe the red tube on the treble.

I gather your Mepps lures come from the Mepps factory at Wisconsin, all of our Mepps lures come from France and the plain Aglia spinners don't have the red plastic on them.. They do have the red plastic on the Aglia Platium & the Aglia brown & rainbow spinners, I have had a lot of success with the Aglia spinners too, the larger blade really attracts the attention of the trout..I found the gold and copper colours work really well on the trout in most waters here in Tasmania,.

When the the hook wears cut it off and replace it with a fly

HI Roger, I appreciate your comment, yes I've done that with a few other old #00 (1.5gm) worn spinners and they do work well, I've put Red Tag, Royal Wulff & Nobby Hopper flies on them.I tried a Wooly Bugger on a #1 Mepps spinner and that worked on the trout too. I must go back and give them another go as the season warms up.. cheers Adrian (meppstas)
