Walked in there and swore I was just going to look and not buy anything. The gentleman featured here on the show was so personable and friendly I walked out with a new pair of boots. If you ever get a chance take the time and check out the place. You will be amazed!🇺🇸

About a year and a half ago, I was on a random road trip through Wyoming. I'd been in contact with a good friend Keith and he was giving good recommendations for places to check out in Laramie and also Casper, WY. He said don't miss Lou Taubert's Ranch Outfitters in downtown Casper. This video very-accurately showcases everything special about that store, just as I remembered it... including the vast inventory (boots [and more boots], western wear, saddles, ropes, chaps, Cowboy hats [and more Cowboy hats], the window display out front, the friendly *personalized* service), the 100 year history of the family business, and Louis Taubert, the current owner and manager of the family store. At 5:35 you can see a stack of yellow Saratelli hat-boxes. I was standing there checking out a chestnut felt hat (resting on a stand atop those boxes)...... exactly the color and style I had been wanting for a while. But... being low-budget these days, I was not seriously contemplating buying a hat that was about twice the price of any other I've ever bought. I tried it on, just for the heck of it, went over to the mirror to take a quick look (and I think I took a photo for future reference... for my "next" hat purchase), and went back to put it away where I found it. As I was heading back, some guy approached and offered to custom-fit the hat to my head... no obligation to buy it. I told him it was out of my budget, but he said let's do it anyway... they often do that for customers who are "just browsing." He told me to put it back on my head, and then he simply ran his finger around the inside-edge of the brim against my head. In just those five seconds, he got all the info he needed. I went to go check out more of the store while he went to work at the steamer. Eventually, he found me out on the floor, handed me the hat and said "here, try this." Perfect fit. Still no obligation. And I felt no particular obligation, just because of the effort he just made. But... as I was walking back to the stack of Saratelli boxes to put it back on the stand where I found it, I envisioned driving away from Casper to continue my road trip in my camper, without that hat... and... 100% knew in that moment I would regret it. Every once in a while, it's worth it to stretch out of your budget to treat yourself to something special. I went to the counter, and I'm pretty sure it was one of the ladies in this video who was there to complete the transaction. It took a bit of time with their old-school way of running my card and hand written receipt. The guy that shaped the hat came over, and I thanked him and asked his name. "I'm Louis Taubert, the owner (of Lou Taubert's Ranch Outfiters)," the guy in this video. I'll go back someday. Maybe blow the budget on some good boots, eh?

"...you can see a stack of yellow Saratelli hat-boxes..." I lost my Stetson that my then girlfriend got me from Colorado 45 years ago. I was in Wyoming and asked about Stetsons as I wanted to replace it... and what better place to buy a REAL cowboy hat then Wyoming? I was told by a woman who's husband and brother-in-law were bronc riders/busters and she told me that cowboys in Wyoming don't buy Stetsons. They buy Sarratelli's. I now own a Sarratelli broad-brim.

"He dreamed of going to America and being a cowboy." In other words he wanted to be what every Boomer boy wanted to be...and we were already here in America.Your grandfather is the kind of legal immigrant we want here in America.

Anchored in tradition ain’t the same as imprisoned by the past. Long may Taubert’s prosper. America could take a lesson from this admirable mercantile example.

I bought 2 new cowboy hats there last summer. The salesman was a know it all and arrogant. If I had knew where else to get an American brand hat I would not have bought them there
