ANDY! You saved me last weekend. I traveled up from the South to hike the North Ridge of Kinder from Edale and back. I was looking for a camp spot mid afternoon on the North side of Kinder and thought S***t I can't find a pitch. UNTILL I googled 'Fairbrook Naze wild camp' and you were the first person that popped up. I thought to myself YES if Andy had camped here I'll find a spot. Proper motivated and inspired me mate. Top man! I had an awesome trip in the end. Please please please keep this up.
fantastic mate glad you got sorted..theres some nice spots at fairbrook naze the one down by the edge where the pedestal stone is a beauty & if you get a sunrise its even more special..pleased you had a good one..
I got lucky and bagged that camping spot on Fairbrook Naze the day after you did this walk Andy. Complete contrast in the weather to what you got though, it was warm sunny and calm on the way up Fairbrook, then calm overnight and just a bit of clag in the morning which cleared early. Can't beat a walk up on Kinder, whatever the weather.
well done for putting them on the right tract. When we lived at South Head Farm I was driving back home up the track and I met a family - Dad, mum, 3 kids under 10 yrs old, walking down the Edale Old Road into the sunset. "how far to the camp site says Dad, "Just over a mile to Hayfield camp site says me. No, says Dad - I mean Fieldhead in Edale ! I drove them round otherwise I was expecting a MR call-out to look for them! They were eternally grateful.
I’ve experienced something very similar but didn’t get a good response! The ‘dad’ was with his young family on the edge path fumbling around with a navigation aid (None of them suitably attired for a day in the hills). Looking around with a confused expression in his face, with partner looking over his shoulder with a similar expression on her face! Like Andy I’ve trudged all over Kinder for 50 years plus and you know when someone hasn’t a clue and these didn’t! I asked if they were OK and they hardly lifted their heads up in acknowledgement! So my thoughts were ‘Oh well, stuff you then’! I find this attitude on the hills more common these days. Unfortunately when you come across other similar situations you become more reluctant to offer any help at all!
@@ultimateoutdoors4659 Mind you, mine was over 35 years ago! Also had a friend who was team leader and also a ranger, who was sat down for lunch out of the wind, family went past and said help, Ted finished his lunch and carried on only to be passed by said family again. "How did you get here so fast they said?" I didn't said Ted. The wind had blown them round nearly 270 degrees!
unfortunately its becoming common place on kinder..ive even had groups walking up past the ramblers asking is this the way to kinder scout..its very concerning..even more so on the plateau when you can clearly see that some dont know the area & unsure of where they need to be..i'll always help out where possible with directions as it's not a place for the inexperienced if the weather turns...
Wild one buddy that!!….did the same walk 3wk back but from Jacobs ladder, the north side path was its usual bog dodging fest😂 managed to squeeze our tents in a sheltered dip somewhere just past the blackden area to escape the 40+ winds …it’s was a very wild Kinder the following morning !!..it’s has its very own brutal weather up there I’m sure…like you say though , with the right equipment it’s brilliant & a great test👍🏻👌🏻 always amazed by the size of the plateau no matter how many time I go up😂 Thanks for sharing bud, stay safe out there👌🏻
ayy kinder has its own weather climate at times..wind,mist & rain are all prevelant..youre right too having the right kit & no matter the conditions a good hike can be great fun..
Enjoyable vid Andy. Your wet gear held up well! That was a wild day but from your expressions at times, looked very enjoyable. Kinder is such a changeable place weatherwise? Been up at the downfall when you'd be lucky to collect a thimble of water! lol At my age now im increasingly becoming a fine weather hiker and camper lol ATB
quite right having the right kit & no matter the weather it can be enjoyable..i really do like an outing in the rogh stuff just to see if i can keep doing it lol..
Anyone noticed, the shittier the conditions Andy smiles more and even laughs, keep laughing Andy, ur vids are top class, but don't wait for shite weather, all de best!!
Can i ask what brand layers you had on in this video also what was the grey and green device fitted to the carabiner on your chest? Just think that if you've got these, then they must be worth having. Great videos
Never fails to put a smile on my face Andy, no matter the weather, lovely that you made this wild and wet adventure into a video for us. p*aSS wet thru! 😂😂 never seen the downfall do it’s party piece but it’s my mission to see it for myself this autumn 💨 BW, Sarah
i do love a good walk in the crap weather sarah it can be quite enjoyable lol..get up the downfall on a windy day this autumn & winter & ill guarantee you'll see the party trick its quite something..
i do have & carry an emergency shelter..not really had the cause to use it bar once in the arrochar alps in scotland when a freak storm passed through..in the peaks if the rain drops off you'll always find a sheltered spot & i know a few..
Hi Andrew, I’ve watched a few of your videos now and I absolutely love them such good content and love the hikes that you do even when your not camping for the night but just out for a walk like this one, very inspiring to get out and do the same what ever the weather. Unfortunately for me having had two herniated discs and being into my late 60’s now I think as much as I would love it wild camping would be out, but maybe pitching up at a site and doing a lovely walk could be the thing to do. I watch Paul Mezzner too and find both of you entertaining and look forward to future vlogs nice one . 👍😃
hi sandra sounds a great idea that & theres some great camp sites around the peaks where you could do some great walks from..the white peak especially has some amazing low level walks from camp sites some of the dales are amazing to see..
Great video yet again wet days are never boring Is the van a new thing are we gonna see u doing a conversation in near future what this space Misses fed up with tent or sleeping on top of car lol 😂 in roof tent creator comforts
ayy bought a van to convert myself but there'll be no van build vids theres a million & one out there lol..onve built it'll open up longer trips to places where i can spend a night in the van then a few night in the hills & mountains.
I don't think that the scorch mark was made by someone building fire. The edges were too well defined and there is no sign of the remains of the fire - strange one this? Anyway, great video Andy it's as though I was there with you!
It’s been there well over 2 month that mark I agree looks like a disposable bbq. There’s no burnable material either that far up so either that or they carried wood in. Either way three cunts burning on peat.
ayy i thought about it afterwards & it could have been a bbq scorch mark..even so its moronic..im seeing too much of it this year but as we head into autumn & winter the idiots will stay at home..
Hi Andy, another cracking video as always. I’ve just ordered my lad a new Terra-Nova tent using your affiliate 20% off discount code so thank you. 🏕️ All the best, Roo
not exactly trainers..trail shoes..wore leather boots for years & they do what it says on the tin..prefer lighter shoes/boots these days coupled with sealskin socks so yeah feet were bone dry..
