I truely am glad you are not keeping the oriental wall paper I love the lighter wallpaper and I am so a green fan anyway and yes it is special to have your peony's. 🤗 Also I love the one coat paint on the ceiling. ..I know you are going to paint it again...but it does look good now if you change your mind . Thanks for sharing this with us I always enjoy the visit and the creative thought process too. Keep on taking care of yourself 🙏💖
Waking up in your bedroom and feeling like your in a coffin, is definitely a mood you want to avoid!! I'm never sure why so many like dark stain wood, personal l couldn't live in a house comfortablely with dark stain, to me it looks gloomy. I don't think you can go wrong with white, cream, taupe, light gray, pale green/ blue, they're just very calming cheery colours to live with. Wishing you and shoulder a speedy recovery!! Enjoy your channel 🙂🍁
Oyyy, the wallpaper in the entry pulling the plaster off. That happened to me once in a bathroom - the prior owners didn't use sizing. Ugh - the worst! Anyway, your house is to die for (from a former New Englander) and I love that you are making it your own while honoring its history. P.S. Your paperwhites and forsythia are looking fantastic!
Too "Oriental style" of wallpaper and it is very dark for front foyer. I would have ripped it down first night! Metallic wallpaper doesnt work for elegant country manor style!
I love how the ceiling in your bedroom looks. Kind of distressed and rustic with your beams and it makes your gorgeous bed stand out. A suggestion, you could switch your cream wingback chairs out with the plaid ones in your bedroom and it would match the buffalo check better. Your home is beautiful!
If the paint on the mantle and the walls is a laytex base, then I would suggest getting a COBRA HEAT LAMP to take it off. You then will be able to preserve the wood underneath, and strip the paint MUCH QUICKER and more efficiently. 💖👍 Washington State☔
I love the new wallpaper for the front entry, I agree with you, the dark one has to go. You have such great ideas, looking forward to seeing it all come together. 🙋🏼♀️🇨🇦 Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful, wonderful project. You have some fabulous ideas and this house will be both livable and beautiful when you're finished! I hope that you're healing and will soon be able to do the things you love to do!
I love your ideas and I am looking forward to seeing the finished product. The peony wallpaper is beautiful and will lighten the entry. Linda, could the cabinet that you are going to remove from the kitchen be repurposed as a TV cabinet? The wood is so lovely. Just a thought.
Hello again Linda! Few comments and opinions. The bedroom ceilings look amazing and the bee paper is perfect in that room. I would agree to lighten up the beams a few shades. Regarding the Tally Ho paper I would not poo poo it yet. The light reflected in the room from the current wall color could dramatically change, and change your mind. Also for what its worth I agree that the paper in the entry is fabulous, BUT not for this house. I think that it was a big miss, just my opinion. Just such a lovely home, you are truly Blessed! Thank you for sharing!
I think the ‘liquor’ room would make a beautiful China room. It’s position between the dining room and kitchen makes it perfect for this. Imagine having afternoon tea or morning coffee there.
Hi Linda, I agree about your MB ceiling. The beams are entirely too dark and detract from your lovely bed. IMHO there are too many beams because they are so beefy. Like the bee wallpaper, delicate and warm. You could paint the beams white, although I’m partial to a coffered ceiling.
Oh by the way, we painted over our wallpaper and then wallpapered over it. It has been done for 10 years and you cannot tell it was ever wallpapered underneath.
The foyer paper is beautiful but yes, too dark for that tiny space. What is behind the wall opposite the front door? That foyer is so shallow and you can tell it isn't original because it cuts the adjacent door trim in half. I am all for a home with rooms, I hate the Joanna Gaines disaster of removing all the walls but your house is quite chopped up. Is this typical of historic homes in your area? I am so excited for the journey!
I LOVE the colors you have chosen for your New Home! 💚💚💚 Especially that Wallpaper for your Entry Way! That will bring so much "Cheer" into that space! And such a SMILE to Welcome your guests!😊☺️ Looking forward to seeing the renovations. But first take your time in getting well 😘💖 XOXO
I love hearing about all your ideas because of your artistic and creative mind! And even though I adore the chinoiserie wallpaper, I would never feel you shouldn’t make whatever choices you want in your own house. I don’t know if others are this way, but I get very turned around trying to imagine your home’s layout. I’d love to see just a rough sketch of your floor plan as it exists now.
Were you listening in on our conversation yesterday? lol. I was saying to bBen maybe it could be modified for the green room or bedroom to hide a tv. Great minds think alike!
Have you tried the fox hunt wallpaper in the front hall? It looked so nice in the other house with your seasonal decor. Not sure how the peony paper would work with most of your Halloween or Christmas colors, assuming guests come to the front door.
You have so many future projects and renovations… my head would be swimming! But you are a visionary and I know you will methodically do each project. Love your wall paper you are anticipating using in the front entry. I also love the light sage green one that you showed on the table. Ceiling is a definite plus. If I had that feeling, it’d be done . Primer is a huge help to lighten up room. Looking forward to see as you check off each item for your home. Stay well… keep healing and take care!
I enjoyed this so much. I like decorating and remodeling my home to make it my own. We remodeled an old farm house and enlarged it. And now I am getting ready to do some changes and updating....don't tell my husband!!! The green wall paper for the front entry is beautiful. Love the peonies. It's great to start off with a list of what is needed in each room and then just work thru it. I like what you have done so far. I enjoy seeing all the light streaming into your home. I see your paper whites are looking fabulous. I just planted my last bowl full for the winter and they are growing so fast. Having paper whites helps me get thru the winter. I really like the bed in your master bedroom-is it an antique or something available on the market? Really like the wall paper you have planned for the bedroom-where is it from? Here is wishing you a speedy and healthy recovery.
Always loved the picture over your bed ,how about putting the white wing chairs in the bedroom. My home is bright and I would not like to wake up to a dark ceiling agree. So many ideas can’t wait that being said take it easy 😉
I was watching your video and when you talked about the ceiling being dark...I thought, "oh my, I would feel like I was in a coffin each morning..." three seconds later, YOU said that! lol! You could do a "haint blue" ceiling so you woke up to a wispy summer blue sky to greet you each morning!
It's exciting to see your progress and the changes you have planned. That said, I was such a fan of the Tally Ho wallpaper, so I was sad to hear in an earlier video that you felt it wasn't right for Sugarwood. I wondered if you considered it in a non-pearlescent finish or in another colorway, or perhaps something similar with a hunt theme, since your decor in the cozy hunt room at Groton and your hunt Christmas tree were such special features, but I'm sure whatever you decide will be lovely.
Love the new wallpaper in the foyer... can't wait to see the finished beauty of everything. You always make everything so comfortable looking. 🌹🌹🌹Sending Hugs, prayers and kindness!
Your home is so lovely..comfortable, lived in..warm and inviting! You will do a wonderful job merrying the past with the present..the old with the new..dashes of New England style with "Linda" specials too! Can't wait!!! God bless..
Whilst I would never have a TV in the bedroom, if you are going to do it, you might want to rethink the position at the end of your bed as it would interfere with the bed making process and make walking from one side to the other, that much longer; and I am sure Willow would appreciate not having to move.😄😄😄😄
After failing to keep basil plants thrive, I found that basil does not like wet feet. So I found out, by accident, that there has to be good drainage. Simply put the pot on an upside down pot and then into a waterproof tray or pot. This gives the soil a chance drain, but don't forget to water frequently because they do like water. Good luck!
Hi Linda hope you are doing fine from your surgery. What ever you do in the house is going to look great also the kitchen I can’t wait. Enjoy your day God bless you and family.🙏🏻❤️🥰😘
I saw your long letter to us and I can’t find it again to make this comment….so I’m commenting on old video. I just wanted to say that your loyal fans will be here waiting patiently…..so take your time and don’t stress.luv mj
So interesting seeing your house and its beauty. I enjoyed hearing about your future plans for areas of your home. I am excited to see what you choose for your tv to rest on. Thank you. .
I can't wait to see your MBR when it's done. I love that Willow has her own bed at the foot of yours. Hope your recovery is going well. PS You inspired me to cut forsythia branches for forcing. They are so beautiful and have been in bloom for 10 days.
Linda, I am not an interior designer but the yellow room says to me; PLEASE I want to be filled with beautiful repurposed cabinets so I can be Linda’s China room! You have so many gorgeous items that could be displayed on a combo of open shelves and behind glass doors with soft down lighting…. Showing off your crystal, your serving pieces, platters, a generous display room with everything easily reached. Please consider it…. Every time you take us through it I wanted to say that…. ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Just sending good wishes and a healing prayer for you, Linda. You do such lovely vlogs and your style is so beautiful! Thank you for doing these videos...I am snowed in and always enjoy catching your latest project or thrift/consignment treasures! Spring will be here in a few short weeks...then you can start your garden plans at your "new-old home"...so exciting!
Hi Linda I am so enjoying your RU-vid channel. I just happened to come across it about two weeks ago. I find that you are a kindred spirit as so much of what you share I also enjoy doing. I have watched several of your shows and throughly enjoy them. I would like to hear more about the store you use to run and about your magazine that you had at one time. Thank you for being so real and I look forward to more videos to come.
Praying you feel better and know you're being covered by God's healing hand giving you the peace & strength only He can provide. I enjoy your videos so much-thank you🍃⚘️🍃
OMG, Linda, the place already looks so awesome. With your intended plans, it'll be your dream home, ... so stunning.🌞🤍💛 A tavern sounds so perfect in that beautiful home.
I'm in the process of purchasing my first historic home. I've binge watched your channel 😁 and feel connected to you, these homes, your style and manner of decorating. I feel like I'm going home each time I visit my 'new to me' old home. I was wondering if you've had to deal with lead paint on mantles and window frames, exteriors. We are ready for anything we face as I feel a new lease on life after covid and a new sense of energy with this new chapter. I will continue to watch your videos and give you credit for the inspiration. 💗
I'm a new subscriber to your channel. Love everything. I agree with the wallpaper. Both are pretty, but the peonies will lift it and brighten the space.
The bee wallpaper has always been my favorite - and the peony paper would be lighter for the front foyer! Bedroom ceiling - coffin was my first reaction even before you said it!! We need optimism when we first wake up! I have those Ethan Allen wing chairs in burgundy - love them before they are not too big.
Hi Linda: I have to admit that I love the painting over your bed, which I saw in a previous video at the Groton house. I loved it so much that when I saw one posted on our hometown yard sale site, I grabbed it! It is a lighter gray, but has the beautiful off-white flowers in various vases, plus books etc. I love it and have it in my bedroom over the bed! Copying is the best form of flattery! Thank you for the inspiration. Also, love all your decorating ideas.
I feel the same way. I wasn’t looking for one but found a very similar picture at Hobby Lobby and hung it over my bed. I love the idea ever since I saw the video the first time.
I'm always amazed at how you can see just the right aesthetics for your rooms. They can be simple or they can be bold but have enough subtlety that they compliment but don't over power. I love your choices for every spot. When I want to choose large patterns like your peony wallpaper, I always end up being frightened it will be too overwhelming and end up going for something more subdued, then inwardly wishing I stayed with my original idea. Your choices are lovely and I agree with lightening the entryway with the choice you made. The original paper was pretty but almost claustrophobic for that space.
I would like to suggest you look at some historic wallpapers. There are many reproductions of those that I think would be more suitable for all of your spaces.
Hi Karen, Thank you. Most of my wallpapers are reproductions, other than the bees, since I work mainly on historic homes with my clients, but for my own home, I'm not trying to be period specific since the home and its additions range from 1790 to 1970.
Thank you Rebecca! I had some unforeseen health setbacks after surgery, but I’m anxious to catch you up to speed with things going on around the house. Thank you again for checking in! I appreciate it.
Linda I think the wall paper would be lovely in the bedroom. Also I agree with lightining up the ceiling, also the dark beams. Would make the room more restful snd soothing. It already is but those changes would really make a difference. Wish you well with your healing. Yes it is better to take it easy, because one day you will be able to go back to all the interesting things you love you do.
Once again thank you for sharing!! Love your ideas! I get it with bathroom mirror being too high. Funny story.......my husband’s family were all very tall and when my father-in-law built the home the counters, cabinets, sinks and showers were built for over six footers! If you haven’t guessed I’m all of 5’1” and that’s on a good day!! 😉😉
So glad that you healing. Be good to yourself, Linda. Just want to say that my first thought on “the tavern room”, when you first introduced the house, was to make it a china and dish room. Built in cabinets with glass doors and lighting would be gorgeous, special and functional. The location of the room is begging for this plan. You could also put a desk in the room for meal planning, grocery list writing and planning parties. Yeah?! I see lovely moments spent in that very special room, appreciating your collected treasures.
I love your bedroom. I have a small bedroom, I chose to give 3 of my kids my big bedroom. My ex partner when he lived here built me 3 wardrobes in my small bedroom plus I have 2 small dressers, so hardly any room to move especially since I was 7 and a half stone then and now I am 11 stone almost. I am saving up to buy a double wardrobe chest of drawers and dressing table, it's all I need. I can't reuse any of my stuff as he fitted it all to the walls, it would save me a ton of money if I could. It's going to be a big job, I have already got the filler, paint, emulsion and bed and carpet, curtains and lamp shades. Just need the furniture and to re decorate. Xx
You have a lot of projects on your list. Get help and don’t rush your healing. 😊. I wouldn’t like to wake up to a black ceiling either. It looks much better. I agree the dark wallpaper needs to go. I think what you have chosen is going to be beautiful.
Might I petition for you to consider keeping the “green room” a version of sage green with tonal trim. It would really set it apart from the rest of the spaces since the formula of cream walls and painted trim is used in the other rooms. Farrow and Ball had many beautiful options that would work nicely with the new foyer wallpaper…..just a thought.
I like the first wallpaper but the second will be very pretty too! I think the same way about things… I will say, the house does not want this color here, or this room wants to be blue…
Linda, the first thing I noticed was the bed corner… you’re me! P.S. every time you mention that the clock was a $25 consignment, I cringe. We spent a fortune on our clock, and I don’t like it as well as yours.
I forgot to mention that I’m sincerely hoping your recovery is still progressing as hoped. I’m sure you don’t want to spend another five months in rehab after this initial recovery period!
What a lovely home, thank you for sharing. I love your videos. It would be lovely to save some of the wallpaper that you're going to remove and frame it.
