For those who think all goes well, while I try to create our cozy home in the countryside of New England, here is proof that unexpected things do happen here at our antique home. It's not big deal, but water came in from outside and ruined many of my newer design books during a heavy rainstorm. Like I said, really no big deal, but so unexpected. In this video I will also be sharing my baked haddock recipe, a little of my journaling, a table set for a morning Halloween themed tea, and an update on the kitchen remodel. I hope you enjoy!

Linda you should list the titles of all books that took an unexpected soaking and maybe the kindred spirits may have copies they no longer use…. Just an idea… Love the plans and eagerly watch the progress!

Linda I am watching your 2020 Christmas house tour. I have the flu right now and I am binge watching your videos. You made reference to being dyslexic-my mother myself and my 23 year old son is severely Learning disabled. I had to buy copies and copies of ‘ Thank You Mr Faulkner’ by Patricia Polacco. Teachers even in our good school district really didn’t understand. We ended up leaving LI, NY to go to SC where there was a good school for kids with LD. He graduated in 2020 from Beacon College in Florida for students with LD. He graduated cum laude. He is difficult at times but the older he gets the better he manages. The world doesn’t understand different do they. Love you and your spirit SO much.

This is so exciting! I'm sorry about your books...it's very disheartening to lose something that you enjoy so much. The kitchen plans look wonderful. I relate to how you don't mind. When we had ours done (in a MUCH smaller house than yours), we had a makeshift kitchen in our dining room and like you I didn't mind a bit...just loved seeing my vision come to fruition. So looking forward to watching your kitchen emerge from the chaos!

I had a complete anxiety attack the week before our kitchen remodel (as well as some other minor updates) knowing I would be without a kitchen for 5 weeks. It was nothing extensive as your remodel. We kept the maple cabinets we had and they were painted white. When the cabinets were sanded down my house turned into a dust bowel. Luckily we had a utility sink available to us and moved our microwave and coffee pot to our laundry room. Refrigerator was moved to the garage and we were still able to use it. I will NEVER do a remodel while I'm living in the home again! I'm so happy you don't mind all the chaos. I'm too OCD!

That’s too bad about your books-I hate for anything to happen to beloved books. But like you say, it could’ve been something much worse and more expensive! Will you be able to reuse portions of your wood countertops somewhere else? It looks like beautiful wood. Will you have to move the stove again when the new flooring is laid? We recently had new flooring put in, and we had to move all the appliances that had just been installed. Of course, the installers aren’t at your house then. 🙃 The cod recipe looked really good. I’m sure the buttery, lemony, crunchy topping adds a lot good flavor and texture to the fish. Hugs to Willow!

Oh YES-the fireplace lit is so comforting!! Like yourself I am very particular about what I bring into my home consequently the loss of anything is felt acutely. I would second what someone else said here and suggest you wait a bit before cutting them up. Could you look into finding a book conservator in your area that might offer some suggestions? There is a variety of things they may suggest or you may chose to follow your original plan. I think you will move forward whatever path you chose. 😊 I felt that loss for you but we both know it does no good to dwell on the loss 😕

OUR LIBRARY tries to save musty, damp books by putting them in rubbermaid totes/luggers and burying the books in dry kitty litter, sprinkling it between any damaged pages. You set the lidded air tight containers in a dry, dark area for 2-3 weeks. The kitty litter soaks up the moisture out of books and gets rid of musty smell. Figured it might be worth a shot to try it ...
