A mere shadow of the previous winter, this season on the river has been incomparable to the unimaginable quality of the fishing we experienced a year ago. Unpredictable and temperamental conditions lead to limited time on the bank and a drastic reduction in catches.
Despite the resulting frustrations, this year saw our biggest ever Grayling grace our net, and what a sight it was. Eventually, it seemed that 3 pounder we had been searching for, was finally lying in the net.
Although measuring in at 53cm, we were unable to get a weight due to an earlier disastrous oversight and although it was every bit of 3lbs in our head, it couldn't be officially accepted as a holy grail fish.
So here we are, at the last chance saloon in the early stages of March accompanied by 4 sets of scales, in one final attempt to make it official, before we say goodbye to yet another winter.
Is there a fairy tale ending to the 23/24 winter Grayling season?
