In fishing we’re often guilty of placing the importance of the size of our catches above anything else. Yes, we all love catching big fish, but a big fish isn’t necessarily limited to a 20lbs Pike or a 200lbs Skate; in some cases, a fish that can merely be weighed in ounces, can eclipse the significance of one in the tens or even hundreds of pounds.
One fish that is often overlooked and often thought of as insignificant, is the Dace, where a fish of 10 ounces or so is considered a specimen. It is fish like the Dace, especially big ones that, here at Angling 360, receive the admiration that they deserve.
There really is something incredibly special about a large version of a ‘small’ fish.
In this episode we attempt to highlight this, by first trying our luck at finding some ‘Silver Darts’ on trotting tactics before turning our attentions to the feeder and another species that while prized south of the border, is a little misunderstood here in Scotland; The Roach.

Brilliant, really enjoyed this, trotting a float and the feeder, love both methods. Been totally preoccupied with the fly and wild brownies this year, I need to get back to a bit of the maggot drowning, that 1lb 9oz roach was a lovely fish.

Love your videos, gents. Always filmed in stunning scenery. The much and oft ignored dace deserves its time in the limelight. I fish for dace on a local stream and have been lucky enough to catch them to over one pound. They are truly mini marvels.

That roach was a stunner as well. Like you, I'm a bit obsessed with catching one over 2lbs. Fingers crossed we both achieve our dreams. Tight lines.

Great videos,, I'm on the east side of Scotland, so my coarse fish are very limited, Perch, Grayling in the Tay system and allegedly Roach, but I haven't found one in the 20 years I have lived north of the border. I grew up in the middle of England and loved my coarse fishing, I must get over to the west of the A9 and give it a go. Happy enough sea fishing and trout and salmon on the fly, but as you say, there's something about trottiing a float with a centre pin.

Enjoyable film again lads. With regards the mullet- I might be able to help you if they are thin lipped mullet. I head down south to Christchurch each year targeting mullet and bass. The way we get the mullet is a bit of a strange one. Size 2 silver mepps, cut the treble off and add about 8inch of fluorocarbon about 6-8lb and 2 size 4 hooks like a mini pennel set up. You put about 2 inch of rag on the hooks so it’s nice and straight with the pennel set up. They follow the spinner but take the bait. Retrieve is slow and steady. I mean just enough to not hit the bottom and enough to make the spinner work. It works a dream down there. Had some fish 57cm(we measure them) the go off like a rocket. Bit like a bone fish. Look prehistoric. Hope this helps if they are thin lipped mullet. Thick lipped don’t seem to fall for this method though.

Thanks very much mate, I'm not sure if thick or thin, but like the sound of this method.

Great video guys and well enjoyed the banter. And for the record guys i know that spot very well fishing from my boat, some nice pike on dead baits, but will have to give the roach feeder fishing ago as never tried it there, but i must say there is some serious weed clumps in that bay. All the best and tight lines Pete.

Great video again lads, have you ever tried breadflake for the big Roach? i use liquidised white bread in the feeder and a lump of flake on a size 10 or 12, it`s a killer for big Roach. Tight lines lads.
@angling360
@angling360 Год назад
Never mate, but I think we shall give it ago 🎩👌
@YORKSOULTRAIN
@YORKSOULTRAIN Год назад
The good thing is it then stops you catching the perch, and the smaller roach, but don`t worry about the taps on your tip, as they suck at the flake as it fluffs up in the water, wait for your tip to go right round, also a lobworm tail, but then perch love those also, it`s a fantastic bait is bread, flake or punch for roach.

@alexallanangling

There is no Coarse fishing on the river itself. We were fishing just above the boundary; essentially still on the loch.
