Thank you for your persistence and your expertise in the standards which are to be provided and enforced in construction and refurbishment in public buildings and spaces. This is so, so important. Brava!
Professor Greed's talk made me think of public toilets in a whole new way. The sudden arrival on the scene of gender neutral toilets - without any consultation with women - in many public institutions, has further eroded the already woeful provision for women. I think this talk is a wake-up call from an expert whose work spans over many countries and over decades. Thanks for posting.
Yes! Reclaim women's toilets. Mixed sex toilets [aka the sanitised term that is "gender neutral"] are very anti-women! And Prof Clara Greed is a wonderful woman!
I love how funny these women inadvertently are. I can be totally enraged by this problem but it’s such a relief to laugh (cackle) at the ridiculousness.
I once went to the San Francisco Opera. Huge building, like four stories high or so. I was at the highest level with a last minute ticket. There were like three intermissions and from the start (because we had been waiting for last minute tickets and couldn't enter a toilet) I had to pee. In the first intermission I went down like two stories to search the toilet. It turned out there was a very long queue at the women's toilets. Before I reached the end of the queue, the intermission was over and the second act started. This went on for two more intermissions. I have a strong bladder but I had to pee so urgently and just because of these circumstances couldn't go! It was agonizing and incredibly frustrating. This happens over and over in the design of buildings. It's just incredibly misogynistic.
We cant even get disabled access right yet... ffs. Maybe when we get universal access sorted for actual disabilities and agreement on safeguarding we can afford to consider provision for genderfeelz. This is a ridiculous burden on providers who are still struggling with disabled accessibility.
Yes! It is infuriating. I have just downloaded the documentation of the new accepted/passed! LGBTI ! Note T and I ! Education for Scottish schools. All basically kept under wraps until done, done. So much money, time and resources (!!)...so much money spent!! (and not a single independent scientific, medically, or bloody sensible person involved.) I am frustrated and furious. The disconnects with previous serious work and reports is overwhelming. :( Madness. (We have people in Scotland that think females pee from their vaginas and don't know vulva/vagina/uterus! Christ! But T and I education are desperately needed without biology..)
I’m shocked by the difference in provisions and how we are losing them to mixed sex! It’s human rights and equality issue being trodden over by a tiny minority of trans and non-binary
You haven't any cogent arguments. Prof Clara Greed has done great work actually researching this issue for decades. Women and girls safety matters . Unisex toilets are proven to put us at risk
I thought it was very well argued and I learned a lot. And I'm not GC but want to know where they are coming from. From the horse's mouth, so to speak.
It sounds like embarrassment seems to be the focus here, wouldn't it be more beneficial to focus on removing the stigma around toilet usage and menstruation? It as though the encouragement of the divide would be counterproductive for equality, seems like segregation is a band aid situation.
