Hello, I've just discovered your channel. I also write, and as I've recently learned, I've probably also got ADHD. I haven't yet figured out any effective coping strategies. I'm in the process of getting treatment/medication. Do you have any tips you could share? I love your tattoos, by the way.
For me personally, I try to just treat myself gently when it comes to creative stuff--let myself have fun, not be harsh about wording and stuff as much as I can manage, etc. I also watch the 7 Deadly Art Sins video by CJtheX a lot and that motivates me. I've been living with ADD both on and off medication for twenty-some-odd years. You have to figure out what works for you and be willing to be a little fluid with it. Sometimes, I do need to get back on my medication. Other times, I need to focus more on self-discipline. Be patient with yourself and learn your own ups and downs. You've got this. Make writing a part of it by writing often--not just your narrative, but sometimes just talking to yourself on the page can help you work with what's going on in your head and prime the pump to churn out some chapter progress. I believe in you. You reached out to get treatment and that's a step in and of itself. Thank you for watching and I hope that helps!
@@methodwriting Thanks so much for taking the time to respond! I've already favorited the video you suggested, it's so good. I truly needed to hear the bit about perfectionism, I think it's my primary roadblock and something I need to unlearn. There were a lot of things I needed to hear. And, I think watching your videos, just seeing sessions of someone actually making words appear on the page, helps remind me that it can be done. I'm going to try to make today a productive one, see if I can't start course-correcting some old habits. Again, thank you so much for responding.
You've got this. Be patient with yourself and learn to just churn it out sometimes. My fav quote that I have taped to the wall over my screen is, "You can edit a bad page, but you can't edit a blank page." -Jodi Picoult
