Buddy of mine has a V1. We noted the thrustline issue on the maiden flight. We fixed most of the issue by sanding the front edge of the EDF pod mount down by ~0.5mm. We further fine tuned this by adding a subtle throttle to elevator mix - about 7% of up elevator throw with most of the change occurring within the first 20% of throttle movement. This made takeoffs and landing much more predictable. The only time you notice a nose dip at throttle up now is if you provoke it by dropping to idle, slowing way down then *nailing* the throttle without touching the elevator. There's also too much throw on the nosewheel. This contributes to the plane's skittish ground handling as well as the tendency for the nose gear to sometimes not drop on demand. (the wheel can catch on the steering wire if you're holding rudder when you drop the gear) We solved these issues by moving the steering servo to its own channel giving it its own set of rates independent of the rudder - low rate for takeoffs and landings, high rate for ground maneuvering and taxiing. We also added a gear to steering mix which did two things - on gear up it centers the wheel and inhibits the steering, on gear down it keeps the wheel centered and steering inhibited for an extra 3 seconds which allows enough time for the wheel to clear the wheelwell without snagging on anything. We also added some black and white WWII-style invasion stripes to the wing bottoms to enhance visibility. Not scale but definitely made it easier to track while in flight.
Nice work, man! Those are solid mods. Though the thrust line is better fixed by adjusting the nozzle direction since it fixes it with minimal elevator adjustments needed.
Hello, I have the V1 version. I have not flown it as of yet, but I did notice the front gear issue. How did you separate it from the rudder?? Also I am trying to set it up on a Spektrum DX9 radio with a spektrum AR8360t receiver. I am trying to add safe and as3x to a switch on my radio. Can you please advise me on this? Thank you
i have the same V2 and its a beauty also thanks to your review! like you said; throtle it up gently on take off because it will swabbel al over the place. i changed the expo and travel of the rudder because of this swabbel issue and it doesnt really mater because without the mod of the engine it has a turning ratio of an semitruck 😅 not able to turn on a 3meter wide road. great video!
Once again great Video Jon! I just picked up a V2, excited to get her in the air! I usually study your videos of a model before I maiden and I feel I usually have great success because of it.
@@TwoBrosRC Brrrrrrrt guys, great video and what a wild and wonderful RC version of the Warthog!! It looks so cool and badass especially in the air, even cooler is that in high speed low passes it actually sounds like a scaled down version of of the Warthogs engines which I often jokingly lovingly called them the flying blowdriers!! I crewed F4E/G Phantoms alongside them in the Gulf War 1 and deployed with them many times in my 23 years active duty. I do have one complaint or maybe request that sometime you post a video of you flying her with less commentary to really appreciate the aircraft and your skills piloting them. Will check out your other videos and info really appreciate the work you guys do. It really is awesome the a d amazing the development and improvements that have occurred in the RC world especially jets and fighters in recent years compared to what they were 30/40 years ago! I saw a video yesterday on a huge Concorde scale jet that was just wicked fun looking to fly, that reminded me of being deployed with the B1B, would love to see an RC of those!!!!
We've always been like that - doesn't matter if someone sends something to us or not. But the fact is that most aircraft these days are pretty good out of the box. You really have to go out of your way to make a video about them being terrible.
It's cheaper to operate since it uses a single battery, and has a better scale appearance overall, except the ordnance looks like toddler toys compared to the FW variant.
We're not sure where you got the idea that we "always" show someone else in a bad light. We rarely feature videos from other channels, and we're not making fun of Hamilton. He's a friend of ours and his footage happened to be useful to showcase how poor the thrust line was on the V1 A-10. Edit: Your name sounds familiar - we used one of your clips before. We weren't insulting you or otherwise trying to insinuate that you're a bad pilot. It just happened to be a good clip that showcased the stall tendencies of the Viper 70mm from the perspective of the aircraft itself. We hope we didn't leave you with a bad taste.
I didn’t view Hamiltons clip as negative, it perfectly displayed the issue with the old model. 🤷🏻♂️ …and Hamilton doesn’t hide anything, he crashes like we all do and hopefully we learn something from it. 🤙🏽
Ooops, that may have come out wrong. Your channel is my absolute favorite and I thoroughly enjoy it. I just came away with the general impression that there are so many better models out there than this particular one. Having had some experience with close air support, I can tell you that the A-10 has very limited capability and is only survivable in a low threat environment. The media I was referring to was the news media. I greatly appreciate your work.
Happy to hear it - but in regards to this model, it's actually one of the best foam A-10s out there. The 64mm from Horizon Hobby is pretty good too, but it just doesn't compare to the size and flight characteristics of the twin 70mm.
