My favorite Rolex, and the one I own, is the 116600. Now that I've owned this watch for 2 years it's funny to think how I considered anything else. After flying through count-less watches, having left them unfulfilled, it's truly exciting moment when you find your lifelong keeper. A little scary too. Only knowing the flipping of timepieces you wonder if there is life after that. This watch does what the others could not and that is the ability to forget about the watch. The others left me with a thought in the back of the brain, "I really don't like this watch" or "I really wish I had such and such". To forget I have it on my wrist and then check the time, get the time, and then think "wow, I love this watch", and then forget about it again is exactly what I've been looking for.

Ran- one of the best films ever made. I started applauding at one point in the film and the audience joined me. The scene where the woman crushes a moth. She goes through every emotion in a few seconds.

Got mine (2016 Explorer) just over a year ago (idea it being my only watch ever) and I have come to like it more than ever. My friends thought it boring at first but have come to compliment it over time. It does have stealth and an underlying elegance and quality that only reveals itself over time. A truly magnificent piece, with such a rich history, everything that embodies the genius design and quality of Rolex.

Thank you for sharing the NYC video and sincerely hope you share more in the future. My wife and I are coming to NY later in the year for her birthday so more video and ideas are warmly welcomed. There may even be a watch shopping trip involved... As for Rolex, I'm not a big Rolex lover however the Explorer is by far and away my favourite Rolex and the only one I'd consider owning again. I love the understatement and versatility of it. Never ever sell it - you'll regret it if you do.

In 1857, Los Angeles was in the Pueblo stage with a pop under 50k. What vision NYC had and the genius of Landscape Architect FLO. I visited Queens this afternoon via the wide screen and John Travolta in Gotti. None of the wise guys had any discernable watches on. TGV, what a classy talented guy you are. Best Regards, JP

Great video! The Rolex Explorer is THE Bond watch. Befitting the literary Bonds background for hi-quality clothing, automobiles and other possessions. The watch is for those interested in understated quality and richness. No flash, a man that is comfortable and has no need for flash. Bond is ex-military and still has all the habits of a soldier. The movie Bond is nothing like Fleming's. Great piece on NYC. Have been there for business, but never pleasure. I need to take the train down from Boston and make a weekend of it. Again, good show!

Hello, TGV. Really enjoying watching through your videos. (Still kind of new to this) I'm only 17 nearly 18 and I don't exactly come from a extravagant background. But I'm really intrigued by the culture and history of watches, been saving up for some of my own. Really like the way you use your words to express different feelings and even that inspires me to extend my own vocabulary. Hopefully one day I'll be able to become more knowledgeable in these cultures. I hope you'll see this. Have a nice day. Regards, RC

Never really considered the explorer before, but your enthusiasm for it has really made me rethink that position... Deciding between the explorer or an oyster on a black strap for a "dress" watch. My favorite watch though is my sea-dweller 116600. It does actually make me think I will never need another watch. TGV, why no love for subby's big brother on the channel?

Beautiful first part of the video. Thank you for that Central Park tour. Amazing tour, very informative and appealing. Museums, explanations, beautiful views and so on. Thank you TVG. My favorite is the Tudor Black Bay fifty-eight. My soul and heart are always fighting: Omega Speemaster Day-Date Mk40 vs Tudor Black Bay. Vintage vs Royal. And then Sinn and Junghans are my second line brands. Of course my SKX007 (my first automatic) and Seiko (generally speaking) is in my collection. Love them all.

Thanks for the tour! I was in NYC this time a year ago. Actually, I toured Central Park a year ago this day. A fantastic French lady guided my family and I. There is so much history there from how it was made to the people who have visited the park. It was one of the best parts of my visit to NYC. My SKX kept me great company that day as well. 😉

I have to say that my 114270 Explorer is aesthetically the best watch I have ever worn. I bought mine to celebrate my 64th recently, and it is one of my best acquisitions ever (my fiancée Sarah definitely agrees with me, as it is subtle).

One of my favourite portraits is that of Brian Ferry sporting the Rolex Exporer. We get a glimpse of it in this marvelous video. I struggle between the Explorer and Datejust ref. 116234. I believe it is the simplicity of the Explorer that is most appealing.

Another historic NYC site to visit would be Rikers Island. Located between the Bronx and Queens near LaGuardia airport, the views are like nothing else on earth and the fragrance of the East River wafting on the breezes through the historic architecture is unique and unforgettable. Pack a lunch though. The local facilities tend to be crowded.

I wear my 39mm MKII. on a grey Nato. It disappears on the wrist and makes an understated piece invisible and so comfortable on wrist. The original bracelet is gorgeous but if you are going to wear this everyday a nato is safe secure and fits the original intention IMHO.

I'm a manager of a bank in Canada, yet I still keep all my watches in my safe at home. A safety deposit box big enough to hold my watches would cost around $200 or more a year. I bought a safe years ago for $250 or so and it holds my 8-piece watch box plus all my wife's jewellery. It's secured to the floor and the contents are insured. Though the chance of total loss is highly improbable, remember the contents of a safety deposit box are not insured. I also like the convenience of switching my watches whenever I want.

Seriously enjoyed that video TGV. Loved your brief show of your part of the world. Very interesting to see. reminded me a bit of the late Mr Bourdain’s take on a city (very sad to hear of his passing). My favourite Rolex is your Subbie, but with the lumed numerals. I’d have your model any day though. “Slow release” is a very good way of putting the appreciation for such a beautiful piece. Bring on more similar videos please! Btw, i noted your Parker Jotter was the same colour as your nato. Nerdy to some but very cool to me. I’m now contemplating a nato in the same colour myself 👌🏻👍🏻😎

Great video. Couldn’t agree more. It’s the least flashy, classiest Rolex. My main watch is a 1993 14270, and unfortunately the tritium is dead but the bonus is pre-95 models have drilled lugs. A fantastic feature for strap junkies like myself.

My favorite of my watches is also Explorer, but Orient Explorer :-) Watches usually wear out because they are run unserviced. When the oil is gone from balance jewels, it may still run, but the pivots grind the jewels. Changing the balance jewels is a job I can do in 30 minutes, so no biggie. Other jewels take special tools and some skills, but still any real watchmaker (not a gold shop battery changer) can change them too. Much worse is if the winding stem is not lubricared. That wears out the bearing surfaces on the baseplate.

A couple weeks ago I broke down and went into a Rolex AD to try on the latest versions of the Explorer and the no date Submariner. The Submariner felt a little small for my 8.25 inch wrist. The Explorer looks very nice but it would take a while to adjust to how thin it is. I felt similar with the Oris Big Crown Pro Pilot. As for NYC, I have only been there once in the early 90s.

The only way to have an objective discussion regarding the 1500 vs. 3000 series movement would be to put them on a watch winder for years and then evaluate the movements using finite measurement tools; otherwise, statements regarding longevity and robustness are simply subjective and anecdotal... Great video👍

Fan-tastic! Thanks for letting us go along on a wonderful tour of Central Park with you and your beloved Explorer. This video added a powerful third dimension to your horological presentation and passion for time pieces. Bravo! Bravo!

I'm really enjoying these vids, TGV. NYC is absolutely beautiful and you did it justice by showing us parts of Central Park we would have never known about or found on our on. I need to pick up a copy of that magazine. Can I find it at a Barnes and Noble?? As always, keep up the great work and thank you for making these videos for us all to enjoy.

Your Explorer is a beautiful watch and I can totally see how it's just about perfect. All versions throughout the years look great, however, I do like the newest version with lume including the numerals. I think if you love the explorer that much, it may be a worthy upgrade if you can consider it that. Sorry, didn't mean to add water to that seed already planted in your head. For me, I've grown to appreciate my dad's vintage Rolex 6426 Oyster Precision. Currently wearing today for Father's day. I would not mind the newest Rolex OP 39 or 36 with the new white or black dial. Monochromatic versions they've not done before.. Not in the latest versions of these watches. I am gravitating towards the white dial. It looks very crisp and clean.. Sort of polar explorer 2 like, but it has its own kind white dial. I think it also would be an appropriate modern descendant of my dad's Rolex I currently own and wear. 36 or 39? I think leaning toward the 36mm version. But, at around $5.5k new, it's a bit high for me now.. Maybe wait for 2nd hand or maybe I will just save up for it.. Will see.

Perfect timing for this video I was just talking to my cousin about why the explorer should be his next watch! He's almost convinced but I'm sure TGV will close the deal I just got the polar explorer II but my favorite watch is still my Pelagos and my Sinn 556/104!
