Although our American culture has blurred the lines between masculinity and femininity, Christians are to be different in the way that they treat the opposite sex. In this teaching session on Biblical manhood, Paul Washer explains what kind of attitude that young men are supposed to have toward young women.

The hardest part for me is when I see people my age dating and looking like they're having the time of their lives, and I think of how great it would be to begin a relationship with someone, which makes me discontent and envious. But then I have to remember that I'm not ready, and that the Lord's timing is perfect, so I should be content with where I'm at in life right now

I get that man, same here. But it's much better to wait like how Abraham waited for Isaac's birth than to become impatient and try to do it your own way, like how Saul took the responsibility of offering the sacrifice in 1 Samuel 13:9

Take it from someone who spent 6 years living among the world, recreationally dating, and living a sinful life before coming to Christ. You are not missing in that world, and having been single for near a year, craving a Godly marriage but choosing to focus on faith and growing my own life in accordance with Gods will, the gains (spiritual, mental, and physical) are worth the commitment. Bearing in mind that this is all labor under the sun for the glory of our God, that we are preparing ourselves to be the mightiest disciple we can be, including being the man your future wife needs? That’s the best motivator a man can have! Stand strong, brother!

Funny that Pastor Washer says "don't marry a Cinderella." I know he meant the sparkly Disney princess fashion model kind of character, but the complete picture of Cinderella is actually that dignified, hardworking homemaker that he described. Don't marry someone who looks like Cinderella on the ballroom floor just because she looks like that-- but do look for a girl with the humility, wisdom and strength of the fabled Cinderella!

It seems impossible to be a man with so much pressure and responsibility with how we behave towards women. I'm terrified of women. I have always been that way. They always turn me down and it hurts. I don't know if I could ever be in a relationship with a woman because I struggle too much with my masculinity and manhood.

It goes both ways. I don't feel the need to be respectful towards women if they are not respectful towards me. Why does it seem like men have to be super nice and soft to women? I'm not going out of my way for a female.

I'm extremely uncomfortable and terrified of women when it comes to romantic and sexual relationships. It seems like you can never be what a woman wants. You can never be man enough. Women act like there scared of everything so I just stay away from them. And I will never cry or talk about my feelings because they use that against you.

Lots of good things to be learned here, especially when he has scripture to back it. He also says a lot of things that sound proper, but those things need scripture behind them as well. I can't persuade other people that he's more right than they if there is no scriptural foundation on either side. Example: That an unmarried young woman is to be under her father's authority as long as she remains unmarried. I believe this is true based on Exodus 22:16-17, and Numbers 30:3-5, which Mr. Washer cited. However, the extent of her father's authority is not clearly defined here in scripture. Mr. Washer would say in my situation, that I need to go to the young woman's father before entering into a relationship and ask him permission to enter that relationship. How do I convey this to other people? My parents say that I should simply ask the young woman out, so that I can talk to her, to see what kind of woman she is. However, Mr. Washer would say that asking the woman out would initiate conflict and a small amount of emotional response out of the girl that would affect her. I respect my parents, but I want to honour the young woman's father and mother. I especially want to do what is right in God's sight and in accordance with scripture. I think 99% of Mr. Washer's principles are good and true, but many of them are also more opinion than scriptural fact.

I disagree with your opinion on women pursuing men being sinful. There’s nothing wrong with a woman showing interest in a man. You’re taking Proverbs 7 out of context to make your point. Proverbs 7 is about an adulterous woman, who is married, who is trying to lure a young man into her house for sex. Women pursuing a man to date doesn’t mean she’s a Harlot or an adulteress with bad intentions. You’re taking Genesis 2 out of context too. Yes a man shall leave his parents & join to his wife. For that to happen the woman also have to leave her parents & join to her husband.

Was Pastor Paul saying it's wrong for girls to go to college? Or wrong for parents to send their daughters to college?
@TheTrenchesYT
@TheTrenchesYT Год назад
It doesn't seem so-- but he's talking against college girls' belief that somehow they will work a college-qualified job like medicine and have time for motherhood as well. It's fine to pick one or the other, but we shouldn't have the illusion that a woman working 80 hours a week or even 40 will have time to get married and raise kids.

To prepare for marriage, we should follow in the footsteps of a man who never married?
@illbehonest
@illbehonest Год назад
Correct, because the key to a good marriage is to love your wife as Christ loved the church. Ephesians 5:25. Who should we aspire to be like? The Lord Jesus. What can we do to become like him? According to 2 Corinthians 3:18, our eyes are fixed on Him. A happy marriage will result if you have a servant's mindset.

More than likely the Apostle Paul was married early on. Perhaps his wife died... Mike Winger has a good series on it. Although he was given his wisdom and insight from Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit! So he had been given the authority from God to speak on the matter

It is quite sad that Paul Washer doesnt mention a word that Jonathan Edwards had slaves to take care of the house. He had at least one male and one female slave. No wonder he didnt notice that crops were brought in because the slaves were doing it.

Wow I just read up on this and it is something new I’ve learned. Interesting that his followers would ultimately become the heart of the abolitionist movement in the North. Seems like he even defended a clergy member who was being denounced by his congregation for owning slaves.
