Here's a breakdown video explaining my process of creating 3D artwork. I made this A2 sculpture from NieR Automata based on initial design/concept art by Sean Tay ( www.artstation... ) It's a personal project that I wanted to have a lot of my creative freedom to put into the artwork so I made a lot of my own tweak to the original design to fit my vision on how I want her to look. Definitely had a lot of fun working on it. Sculpting done in Blender, Highres details sculpting done in Zbrush, texturing done Substance Painter, rendering done in Cycles, and final images composited in Photoshop. If you have any feedback please just let me know. That's about it. Take it easy guys!
"A2" personal project stylized 3d sculpt by Yuditya Afandi based on concept by Sean Tay. I made a lot of my own tweak especially on the outfit design to fit my vision of the character.
Studio/client : stylized character, sculpture
Software : Blender, Zbrush, Substance Painter, Photoshop
Tasks :
- Modelling
- Sculpting
- Texturing
- Rendering
When : June 2021

I really wanna thank you for this video, I started learning 3D last september and I'm really excited to learn more. I kinda know how to do stuff individually but I usually have issues knowing how to organize my process. Watching this gave me a clear idea of how I should follow the steps. Your work is amazing!!

Incredible Model!!! I would love to see more videos in this more informational/tutorial style. From a learning perspective having you talk about the decisions your making, why your making them, and in turn seeing those take place visually on the model in real time is unbelievably helpful especially when it comes to learning the fundamentals and seeing how you've implemented a multitude of techniques to craft your own unique workflow.

Using draw sharp to outline features for later sculpting directly on the model is a great idea. I've always just "flowed" through the process and find myself checking back to reference too often. Thanks for changing my workflow in a single tip. In hindsight, this seems pretty obvious.. Yet somehow, I had NEVER considered drawing on the model like this. Thanks again.

Amazing result and was really interesting to see your workflow. Was is just due to it being a personal project that you didnt sculpt 1 hair then apply it to the others or save time mirroring over the patterns on the clothing? Still love your work and admire your mental strength spending that much time on the hair.
@Yudit1999
@Yudit1999 3 года назад
My main reason is more because I wanted every hair feels special and it's a personal project anyway. And for the body It's more because I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and sculpt it asymmetrycally from the start.

1:14 to 1:25 how did you move and pose your character in a very high poly wireframes like that in edit mode? Which tool did you use for it? Like the hips when it moves the whole body move with it instead of just only moving from what you choose.
@TheAngelArrow
@TheAngelArrow 7 месяцев назад
that's blender's "O" hotkey for proportional editing found at the very top and the icon is a circle with a dot in it. if you're in edit mode you can do Alt + O when it's enabled to change from local to global meaning global: it affects whatever is in the radius no matter what local: it only affects whatever is attached to the model and near the selection gradually increasing radius from the selection as u increase the radius

Well, To put it simply, Every software has its own areas of expertise, e.g Zbrush is preferred for sculpting, Substance painter for texturing, Houdini for Procedural Geometry and Simulations, And Marvelous Designer for cloth creation. You can google these to know more about them. So you can kinda imagine these softwares as masters in their own fields while Blender is an all-rounder pro who can do all this stuff but not good as the masters. Hence, Blender can be a good starting point for beginners to be exposed to various 3d operations without hopping back and forth on multiple softwares. Also, It's good for pros as well, As he mentioned, this is where you combine all the stuff and see your creation come alive. I dint explain a lot of interesting stuff, and I leave it to your own curiosity. I hope I made it a little less confusing for you.

@@ritz9254 Well, I'm into drawing alot, so I figured learning atleast some basic 3D (e.g. for posing / light simulation and so) would help with that But honestly, the most intimidating part is the complexity of the programs - in Blender I barely got used to the basic camera movements when I tried it for a short time. Understanding the process of modeling is way more difficult of course ... But I might try Blender again, there are alot of tutorials out there that apparently are very good. Thanks for the answer!

@@XraynPR Yeah I do hear a lot of people talking about how hard it is to learn blender3d, And I believe this is due to the fact that blender software and its community is growing at a rapid rate. People get oversaturated when using it the first time. When I started using blender a year ago, I started with the classic donut tutorial, and FYI I had known a little 2d graphics like photoshop and animate, yet I was overwhelmed with the information. I did not understand a lot of the things, I simply followed what Andrew said and moved forward step by step. At the end of the tutorial, I learned how to copy stuff. And this actually helped a lot, I believe the reason I have progressed so far in blender was because I spent a lot of time watching youtube and reading articles, forums, whatever I found relevant on google. In just a year, Blender has grown so much that even I cant keep up with the various stuff going on. For instance I recently started feeling confident about making procedural materials using nodes. And Blender introduced geometry nodes. I was like "Omg, this is fabulous, I need to learn this as quick as possible or I'll be left behind". It feels like devs are competing against us on how fast they can add new features and how we manage to absorb them. And for the first-timers, this is actually scary. What I will suggest for beginners is, try to learn the software in small steps. follow one tutorial or more at a time, keep it less though. You dont wanna be listening to how various artist manages to get the same result using different approaches. Start with something small, like donut or chair. Try to follow someone, or do something which is already there, so even if you get confused or dont understand something midway, you can easily go back for help. One thing is for sure, the blender was equally amazing and mysterious in past for me, and it still is. So its alright if you don't completely learn everything whats inside it, it's a tool to express your creativity, surely learning everything is good. But it is more than enough if you know little bit of everything inside it.

Well said by @Ritz there. In terms of making models it's entirely depending on the artist and not the software. As for how hard certain software to learn I think it's gonna be hard for everyone starting, but once you get th grasp of it learning other 3d software becoming easier.

@@pacopadilla5297 I've thought about it. But for now IDK, in terms of personal projects I just love sculpting them and not really worrying about making them physical figures
