About the Medusa, you're exactly right. It's unspoken but Icar could use many different methods to guard his treasure but chose a beautiful monster. Our group used a mirror to petrify her, then left a Stone-to-Flesh elixir with a group who came in to finish liberating the fort. We treated her as another enslaved person (and the DM used that in her dialogue). It's an interesting detail for character development for the PCs. Plus it fits with Markessa's doings as well.

Well, at least your PCs did not try to chop off her head, stuff it into a bag of holding, and then use it in the next monster encounter. The "Clash Of The Titans" film was a "bad influence" on my PCs. :-P
