My favorite Dabney Coleman movie is "Short Time," a 1990 Screwball-Comedy, where Coleman plays a cop close to retirement when he learns he only has a short time to live. Hilarity ensues when he injects himself into one dangerous situation after another in the hopes of getting killed in the line of duty in order for his family to collect the insurance.
@dbdeets Unfortunately, it's never had a life beyond VHS and cable in the 90s, as far as the States go. Come on, Arrow, Vinegar Syndrome, Kino, etc. do a guy a favor and get the rights.
4K and Atmos are incredible on my budget setup I can only imagine what a home theater with real money sounds like. Just ordered the Indiana Jones 4K with Atmos, have the Star Wars 4K releases. A New Hope in Atmos thumps and everyone was telling me it was garbage because of the DNR and fake new mix. I love 4K77 but the HDR version of the 2020 Special Edition, how can anyone who isn't blind say 4k77 looks better. Better resolved grain yes. But the 4k official release comes off the original camera negative, 4k77 is 77% IB tech scan generations away from the negative.
The Final Cut of Poor Things on blu ray is the same version worldwide, so you are not losing anything with the UK release. The final cut was re-edited to remove the offending scene with minors that may raise issue with the BBFC.
You´re right. I stand corrected. 👍🏼According to the BBFC the version seen in cinema was edited, so I just assumed the BD would entail that version. Since it was already coming with an 18 certificate. Probably way too much work to create a different BD.
Island of Terror is a classic Saturday afternoon creature feature catch for me as a child, and I have the Scream Factory edition. One of my top 10 60s horror to be sure. I hope someone puts out a singular relase of another good one with him anf Lee called The Creeping Flesh. Those two, along with thr Horror Express round out my top 3 non hammer with him.
The Crow being released on 4K already shows Paramount knows there's an audience for it, especially being released with two different SteelBooks. Paramount has been pretty good with their catalog releases and they also license movies out to boutique labels, so I'm not going to complain about their execs being clueless. WB has also been doing a lot of catalog releases recently with movies like the Ocean's trilogy, Purple Rain and Twister. Sony has La Femme Nikita, Taxi Driver (finally as a standalone) and more. Lionsgate and Universal have been slow this year, but have done a lot of catalog 4Ks in the past few years so hopefully they get going (Lionsgate still needs to release the Kill Bill movies, if they wait much longer it won't be a 20th anniversary) It's really just Disney who have been terrible. I'd reserve those "execs that don't have a clue" rants to them, but I guess they already tapped out. It's a brilliant move, now no one knows who decides what to release and who to blame for the Fox titles not getting 4K releases.
I saw a really Impressive movie over the weekend. It’s an independent film that came out in 2023. I came across it by accident. I don’t remember you guys discussing this movie. It’s called Nefarious. It’s about an inmate going to electric chair and psychologist is brought in to evaluate if he has been possessed by Demon. If you haven’t seen this, I highly recommend you Ck it out. Both of you will love it. Acting & writing is excellent and it really makes you think afterwards. Majority of movie is just two people sitting across from each other & talking. I have watched it twice so far & will probably watch it again.
i've actually pre-ordered MADAME WEB 😂 i had way more fun watching it than i did with anything from the MCU, STAR WARS, STAR TREK, DOCTOR WHO, INDIANA JONES and most other franchises lately. sure, it's really bad, but also really entertaining. and it didn't actually push any identity politics or other stupid agendas. i only wish they hadn't cut the great line that was in the trailer 😂 if they'd left it in the movie, it would have been legendary.
The offending scene from ‘Poor Things’ was removed from the cut used globally for the physical media release, so the scene shown in cinemas is cut in all of the physical releases regardless of country. All of the other UK retailers have ‘The conversation’ available - may be an Amazon glitch as the same message shows in the UK too (so it’s not geo-blocking) - seems similar to the Amazon glitch with the Exorcist box where it showed as in stock but wouldn’t let you check it out , then it did let you order it - then they cancelled the orders lol
@@dbdeets Haven’t seen the digital so not sure - but would assume that they would remove from all to save any potential future legal problems - also easier for them to have one version available globally as it gets complicated when you have different versions cut for different territories. PS. Conversation seems to be back on Amazon as i didn’t get an error message when I ordered this morning though i did last night (& I’m in UK so it definitely wasn’t region-blocking)
@@dbdeets It's only been given a now OOP DVD release by Shout! in the U.S. If the new Blu-ray has easy access and has both the original language and English dub, I'll get it.
It was actually all three chapters of the new "Strangers" movies that was filmed back-to-back, not just Chapters 2&3. It took 52 days worth of filming, from September 2022 to November 2022. The budget for the first Chapter is stated to be $8.5 million, so if the film can muster $30 million or better domestically, Chapters 2&3 will surely get theatrical releases. Once it's all said and done, there's plans of a 4-hour cut, with all 3 Chapters as a single feature.
That´s what I meant. 😁 Netflix had a nice hit with their three part horror movie year series FEAR STREET. Let´s see if name recognition is enough for THE STRANGER three part endeavour. The reviews for the first chapter are abysmal. 🙈
@dbdeets I don't know if you're aware or not, but those "Fear Street" films were sold to Netflix after Disney bought 20th Century. I didn't care for "Fear Street," they were nothing like the books, and the lore was screwed with on Kurtzman Trek levels. Although I am curious about the upcoming "Prom Queen" film as it's actually based on one of the novels, unlike the trilogy.

I understand rob saying that soundbars don't get it, i agree if you livein a house but for people who live in an apartment thats basically the option. They do have that Nakamichi dragon 11.4.6 soundbar system that is $3000 For soundbar thats alot even if it has surround sound speakers and 21 channels 15 digital amplifiers quad 6 upfiring speakers 2 omni motion reference surrounds They say the system supports dolby atmos, dolby vision, and Qualcomm aptx HD and DTSX
Sheer numbers doesn't really impress me. And if you have additional speakers to set up if I understand the Dragon system correctly, that to me defeats the purpose of using a soundbar. Which is for someone who has not the possibility or the wife's license to place speakers around the room. No doubt that the Nakamichi is probably a great system. But if you're in that price range you can certainly look at a decent 5.1 speaker set up. Which gets the trick done just as good in normal living situation than 11.4.6.
Guys, I feel compelled to say thank God that most of 4K buying audience don't believe they have to invest a minimum of 10 to 15 grand on a sound system to make it "worth their while," because if they did the 4K buying market would probably shrink to less than a third of what it is ;)
We all started with a smaller set up. At least I did. But over time all with all combined I think Rob is in the ballpark. Of course there are Schnäppchen to be made hardware wise too. 😉
@@dbdeets Right, I'm not quibbling over what setup sound best, I'm quibbling over what percentage of 4K buyers have sound systems anywhere near that amount. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any data to support either side, but I would bet you that the majority of buyers do NOT have systems in that price range (and over). I'm guessing it seems that way to him because those are the kinds of collectors he surrounds himself with. ;)
@@THEBURNETTWORK That makes a bit more sense. However, I still think a "good enough" (open to interpretation!) soundbar or 5.1+ system will suffice for many people, certainly to begin with. I think if we want the 4K market to grow, or at least survive, we maybe shouldn't be instilling in people the idea that it will require a minimum 15K+ investment for it to be "worthwhile", when a "respectable" 65 - 75" inch 4K TV (they can sit closer!) and what counts for a high-end soundbar can be had for well less than that, and it's still an improved experience over watching old DVD's. Let's start with getting people hooked on the drug first before their habit starts costing them more money, because I'm not convinced that a tiny niche collectors market bodes well for the future. ;)
I’d actually counter most home theater enthusiasts already have rather impressive sound systems. Great home theater setups are decades old. Laserdiscs popularized higher end surround systems, and DVD and Blu-ray only increased the desire. With 4K and Atmos, there has never been a medium better suited to high end sound systems. Sound bars might work in a dorm or family room, but they’re no match for proper home theater setups. I’ve been in Million Dollar home theaters and let me tell you, the Dune 4K is an unforgettable experience!!!
I always try to go with the european releases. They often include the BD. Wasn´t even aware that there are releases without the swag considering THE CROW steelbook. It´s not that much.
I have only seen fleeting moving images of IF. The effects look bad. At least with that kind of budget it should look great. But I have 0 interest in any RR movie besides DP/W.
