Man thanks for adding this video! I've not paid much attention to the Nacs to CCS adapter arena in awhile and was curious if anything's come out lately. This answers the question! I'll have to pick one up for our EV6 for the next roadtrip. Hopefully we'll see better rates in the future but I'll take 100kwh if I'm desperate. Wonder what the magic docks are pulling these days...
My pleasure! It really is a fantastic piece of hardware and the build quality is fantastic. I don't get anything from these guys I'm just trying to help out the rest of us with ccs cars
I don't think that the 100kwh limit is from the adapter. I recently used a tesla NACS -> CCS adapter (the one left in the station in the video) and was only able to get ~97 as well. I think this has to do with the different voltages. If tesla upgrades their voltages, we could see higher rates through the charger.
@@Neesnu01 I completely agree. It's not the adapter its software limited by the car, or buy Tesla at the dispenser. I've used my CCS adapter and pulled over 200 kilowatts
Cool! 👍 Thanks for posting this. I just might order an A27 adapter for my Ioniq 5 so I can at least use Magic Docks months before Tesla authorizes the use of E-GMP drivetrains at their other v3 Superchrgers. BTW, I've compared rates at Magic Docks, and E-GMPs almost always average 97% -and it doesn't drop!
Kia didn't say that the end of the year they were going to be on partnership with the Tesla superchargers. So it should come in handy hopefully pretty quick here
Nice vid, good to know the A2Z adapter works.I don't know why Tesla doesn't open up all the V3-V4 stalls to adapter use?? Magic Doc program seems useless since there are only a few stations with the M.D. adapters installed.
How did you activate the Tesla charger? I have tried to trick it, but if the built in Magic Dock adapter does not unlock it will not initiate the charge. If the Magic Dock adapter does unlock it is locked onto the NACS plug and can't be removed. I have one of these adapters and I want to test it, but so far have not been able to make the Tesla charger initiate a charge without unlocking the built in adapter.
I held the button on the charge wand for a couple of seconds and it disconnected from the magic doc. I plugged it all into my car and then went into the app and selected the stall. It legitimately works first time with no issues
I believe you could manually update it at home. It's a nav update and not so much a car update. I had to manually update mine as the latest one wasn't showing up. It updated OTA only to the one prior to that for some reason.
The preconditioning (at least here in the USA) is a dealer add-on. At least that's what I was told. And unless your paying the $200 for premium Kia Connect you don't have OTA Downloads :( Of which I will be buying the end of the month lol
@@teslatim78 I just recently got my EV6 GT so yeah I got Kia Connect Ultimate right now but for the latest update with the preconditioning I had to download it to my PC then manually update it in the car. It took some time but I wanted the audio update as well which made it a lot better. I'm here in the US too, specifically in Northern California just like you. 😊
@@teslatim78 for sure that sounds awesome. Let's just say you drove right through my town during this video lol. In the capital city! I'm in the suburbs so it isn't so bad. 😁 Btw I'm glad that adaptor worked out for you. I'm wanting to get one too but will probably wait until summer when I'm planning a trip. Hopefully by then there will be cheaper options out there. $200 for something that I'm gonna use every now and then is just too much imo for me. I was close to getting the non-supercharger adaptor that had been out for a bit now as those are around $50 or so. I might as well just get the newer adaptor instead they could do both even if it's a little more. I'm not in a rush since I still have my EA credits 😊. I will be charging mostly at home as well.
They each have their benefits and weaknesses. The ev6 can definitely hold a lot more than a model 3 can for Road tripping. It's also much quieter with the road noise. The Tesla obviously has the supercharging network and the interfaces so much better. But Kia is getting access to the supercharger the end of the year. So it's really coming down to a 50/50
Any Tesla Supercharger, as long as your vehicle is capable of charging on a Tesla charger. Like my Kia can only charge at very specific locations currently.
@@teslatim78 thanks for your reply...I'm thinking of getting the Ioniq 6 and I think it'll be the same as your Kia....so if I correctly understand, Hyundai and Kia EVs would be able to charge only at Tesla super chargers that offer Tesla Magic Dock?
@@teslatim78awesome thank you for the info.. so just so that I understand.. kia/hyundai can only charge on tesla superchargers where magic dock is available ? Even with A2Z adapter? Shouldn’t the adapter enable me to charge anywhere?
@IshmeetSinghahuja that is correct. They HAVE to have a magic dock as if now. Q4 this year Tesla and Hyundai should be able to charge at ANY supercharger. Basically your buying it now to avoid the rush later.
The issue is reliability, albeit the cost. Given that you primarily charge at home for cheap, I’m ok with that. This will now force EA to step up their game to improve reliability to be competitive.
It's funny, It made me think of the old days and the difference between the screen on the Mac compared to the screen on the PC. The PC looking more cartoonish. Same for the screens on these Kia's compared to the Tesla. I don't own a Tesla but I just could not live with the screens and gauges on Kia and Hyundai. Sure wish they would update them. Even the screen on my Ford Lightning is way better.
