4K Aerial Video shows dualling construction progress at Carland Cross, Zelah, Chybucca and Chiverton Cross at end of March 2023 Music from #InAudio: inaudio.org/In... City Beat
I imagine there's going to be a lot of quite rapid progress in the weeks to come. Going to look very different by the time of the next video :) Chivvy roundabout looks like it's soon to be a goner.
There is a tiny disused quarry amongst those trees, which is flooded. As far as I know the trees are staying, the new road will pass just to the left as you see them at the start of the video
Furthermore to your enquiry as to houses on this route I am fascinated to see one particular cottage survive. I refer to the cottage going out of Zelah uphill past the Scotland Road junction and is the next building before the crest of the hill on the left hand side. Back in the 1950's/60's it was a Farm cottage with a thin garden running back down the hill and immediately alongside the old A30. The tenant was a Farmworker but he also dealt in scrap cars and there were always a couple in his "garden". My cousin Trevor Rid and I were 17 year old boys that bought an old Austin 10 or 16 (had running boards) for a tenner, it drank oil and black smoke poured out the exhaust. We had no tax or insurance, learnt to drive in a week travelling Newquay to Truro chasing girls and never saw a police car. On the final trip the Austin engine seized up directly by this cottage at 9pm. We sold the car to the Farmworker for £3 (I think) and started walking back to Newquay thinking "long walk". Within 100 yards , a Mayfield resident picked us up in a van. This cottage was sold to an Emmet in the 70's and as a HGV driver later in life I'd pass it almost daily. When the A30 scheme came up years later my thoughts were of this cottage. we know now. It's a survivor! Give credit to the Planners too. Very few buildings have been destroyed.
