In this video we go into more detail about the Airbus A320 Fuel system. We explain the sequence in which fuel is used on the aircraft starting with centre tank fuel, then inner tank feeding and finally outer tank feeding. We also go into details about how fuel in the outer tanks are used and transferred.
This channel shares professional aviation knowledge from the MindSpaceX Aviation e-learning platform. MindSpaceX Aviation is the aviation branch of MindSpaceX which delivers learning content to professional pilots around the world. That is how you explain a quiet complex topic in an easy and understandable manner. Well done!

I'm a Flight Simulator pilot. I respect this video. Airbus A320 Cross Feed does work in MSFS 2020 but I don't think it's right I had to shut pumps down on my right wing in order to see that tank fill the right with and drain the left with cross feed on. Eventually it balanced and pumps back on. Somebody needs to explain this to Microsoft. Funny enough the system works but I don't think it's true to life. Weight and Fuel Balancing is so important in the commercial aircraft I'm waiting for a simulator to actually get it right. Important in any plane but the system gets a bit more complex with commercial equipment. APUs Concordes didn't have them. Required ground power units. Cool thing about an APU. They can power the aircraft with a generator failure. When captain Sully went into the River. One of the first things he turned on was an APU to maintain control on fly by wire. Some will say their unnecessary. In an A320 if your going by Microsoft an APU can be turned on in minutes and it has a direct fuel feed. Very useful thing to have. I believe more semi trucks should have them. SR71s leaked fuel all the way down a runway until the tanks built pressure for high altitude flight. It was a designed that way. Need more people explaining this. Especially with today's automated stuff. The manufacturers of flight sims should know as well. To accurately replicate what the aircraft may do.

HI Kristopher, You might very well be right. MS Flight Sim has come a long long way from the early days of home simulation, but there are still small tweaks and errors when comparing to the real aircraft operation. The details in there however are incredible. With the level of details it now provides, we are actually looking to use it towards teaching pilots on the real aircraft. With regards to your comment I would say it depends on the situation. But you are likely to need the crossfeed function when one engine has failed. In this case the pumps on the side with the failed engine would not be turned OFF, correct. In fact we turn OFF the pumps on the lighter side so as to force the usage of the heavier side. Also, as the pumps in the tanks are "booster pumps" they help to push the fuel towards the respective user (engine). Shutting them off could lead to an issue we refer to as cavitation which means air in the fuel pressure lines.

Hi @adrianam3152, The video here is a small snippet from our complete lesson on the A320 Fuel System. In this short video we only talk about the generic fuel feeding sequence. The schematic shown, as you mention, is from the newer and most widely used fuel system, where we have centertank x-transfer valves instead of pumps. The fuel sequence however is the same for both systems. You can always find the full lessons on our leaning platform at www.MindSpaceX.com/elearning.
