Brings back old memories when I was I kid. Air jamaica was a great airline and the food was the best and only food I had eaten on an airline. It certainly beats eating peanut and drinking sprite. Honestly I dont think there is any thing wrong with it.
Yep! Sure is! If I'm correct, a United Airlines 777 bumped into that one while taxiing at London Heathrow. The MEL (Minimum Equipment List) for the A330/A340 family states that they may operate with only one winglet in the case of such an accident, but not with both missing. In the case of a missing winglet, certain restrictions are put on gross weight, takeoff weight, etc. but they can still fly! Cool, huh? :)
The missing winglet is not unique. The a/c wingtip probably clipped another a/c on the ground and was damaged, hence it has been removed for repairs. I have seen similar situations on the 744 and A330 so there's nothing unusual about it. Its perfectly safe and only slightly effects smooth airflow along the edge of the wings.
I love my air jamaica please we want our national airline back i love my air jamaica trusted pilot with safe take off and landing one of the best airline in the world it was we need you back
@Anthonykool so true...i remember taking this plane for the first time when i was around 5 which was 1994...i always choose Air J before going to any other airlines website to buy tickets to go home
I want my air jamaica i love my national air bus i go many country flying on it safe and reliable pilot with good take off and landing they so great but god is greater pilot still bless eddie love my air jamaica bless
Oh man, sorry to see them go. I flew Chicago-MBJ several times in the early 80's. Monster stretch DC-8, and they even let us have a cockpit tour mid-flight. Looked like way too many 'inoperative' stickers covering the gauges on the flight engineers' console for my comfort. But he was way too busy going through trade school brochures to notice. Little scary. RIP, AirJam.
I am a frequent flyer on air jamaica ifly on air jamaica more than a 100 time in real life i want my plane back this is my natioñal airline that take me to the world
Excellent video. The other only video on Ytube is a mess with a copyright blocking the whole coverage. The damaged /missing winglet was a stroke of luck being filmed. Fine taxi to takeoff images as well. Thanks for posting. Just bought the Herpa 1/200 model for this spectacular scheme.
Yea, a bit more drag. Though that's heavily debated, a winglet itself produces drag, because of its shape. It's a question of whether the drag reduction of the wing outweighs the additional drag of the wingtip, some say the effect is minimal
84% of Caribbean Airlines is owned by the T&T government, with the remaining 16% owned by the Ja government in return for CA taking over the much more lucrative AJ routes. CA manages to stay afloat because of the fuel subsidy they get from the T&T gov, so in real terms they are not really that competitive because they have an advantage.
Nice vid, thanks for uploading. Could you please delete the cursing comments? Decent ppl dont speak like that and we dont want to see it, we just want to enjoy the vids on youtube. Blessings to the most high.
This is a response of ignorance. Air Jamaica is doing very well for a carribean airline. This plane is probably about 15 near 16 years of age and the plane took off with only 1 wingtip didn't it? It's not like it crashed or something. Air Jamaica has never had an accident.
Like when the airplane takes off in reaches so many miles in the air does your eats pop out?Because soon I will be flying to Jamaica!!!But I am worried about my ears popping out anyone want 2 give me advice.
Hey it couldn't use the whole runway, why? Remember every captain has to calculate the weight of both the plane and the passengers combine, also the wind pressure that is calculated in knots....so all that calculation determines the speed of any plane to taxi off the runway before it takes off....also Air Jamaica has most of the top class pilot that you can find, as u know that Air Jamaica never crashes!!! Unlike America Airline, British Airways and so on....
wow the a343 mn jamaica needs to like fix this airline they are loosing so much money im jamaican and i have to sa they need to eliminate soe aircfraft and discontine service where it is weak and if ur going to other countries they should o straight flights like barbadoes to london trinidad to kenndy why do they have to stop in mobay thats dumb it it does not take a scientist to figure these things out but still love my airlines go AJ
its missing a left wing tip, anyone knows what diffrence it makes of not having the wing tip, the pilots maybe don,t know that they are missing a wing tip.
@sdt091347 This comment is actually hilarious because the quality of Air Jamaica's service was so good and had such a good reputation that Caribbean Airlines, who bought Air Jamaica, has kept the name and logo its jets, simply because of the revenue it should bring in because off its high reputation; that is all.P.S did u notice the picture/symbol that Caribbean Airlines has on its jets??....yup...that Jamaica's national bird which was originally on Air Jamaica's fleet...such a bad airline LMAO
u speak English, Spanish, Portugees, Dutch and French? i do to, well not dutch but german! i really want to learn dutch, when i grow up i want to be a pilot for klm!!!
