I love that you take the time to describe little, seemingly unimportant, things to the viewer. I know a couple of Hornet pilots, and they'll happily tell you stories, but sometimes they skip over little details that to them seem so routine, but to us plebes out here are mega interesting. It's no different then any other skill profession. What seems routine and mundane to you can be extremely interesting to those of us with different training and skill sets.

It's all that detail that he gives us that really separates this from normal aviation ops .Gives a sense of all thats actually happening on the flight deck ..what a busy place to be .Looks like to me it's an easy place to get effed up in a hurry for the guys on deck if they aren't paying attention and doing it exactly like they are supposed to do it .

That is SO cool!!!!! I know it's a long, tough road to get to a Hornet or Growler front seat. I also once heard that only the top candidates in flight school are selected for the fighters. Years ago, when I was active duty, I also remember that the guys who are in the lower echelon in flight school end up in the helos, although I also remember that there's some wiggle room to choose what you want to do? That sort of surprised me a bit. Decades ago, a neighbor we had was a pilot for NorthEast which later merged with Delta. He had flown UH-1 Hueys in Vietnam, and I clearly remember him telling me that a helicopter was a whole lot harder to fly than fixed wing aircraft.

Howdy! Is that a CVW-17 logo on your helmet? Long time ago under a flightdeck far far away, a certain ISSA attached to the COMCRUDESGRU EIGHT flag staff made his first deployment to the Med (circa 1985). I worked in N2, and the N2 office was on the O3 level (at least on the USS Saratoga) right under the starboard forward JBD. Talk about noisy... lol. We could tell what was getting launched by the sound of the wash on the JBD. Of course the Tomcats in afterburner were the absolute loudest... So awesome to see flight deck ops from the pilot's perspective. Well done Sir, well done. 🤠

Another thing I envy about the Navy. They get to wear the Navy Jack on their uniforms. That's the nautical version of the Gadsden flag; because of partisan politics, the Army can't wear our version of that flag on our uniforms.

can they expedite you off the deck very quickly if the situation calls for that? it seems like they could if you needed to be in the air in a hurry. #FlyNavy ✈️

I thought this video was awesome. I love the detailing of the step by step process. But I'm curious... I still have one question: If there was an urgent combat mission, like you needed to get up in the air ASAP because of imminent enemy contact or to assist a fellow pilot.... would you be able to speed up this whole takeoff process, or is this strict protocol to be this slow and methodical? I would hope that in an emergency, you would be able to maybe complete these steps in half the time (or even less) or does it take 10 minutes regardless if it is just a routine launch or if this is an emergency scramble to get up in the air as soon as possible? Thank you so much for your time, and thank you for your service!!!!!!! God bless you.
