I am loving the 85mm 1.8 on my A7S III.. Favorite lens for sure, with the 35mm and 20mm in second place, and the Tamron 28-75 as an all rounder for filming events etc. My next purchase would be the Sony 55mm 1.8 or the Tamron 75-180 2.8 but I don't really like zoom lenses...
Oddly I didn’t notice a huge difference. I have the Tamron 17-28 sitting in a box in my office. Just waiting to buy a camera. I could only afford one lens so I decided to go with the one I could zoom with. Hopefully I made the right choice. Great video by the way.

Probably a good decision. I purchases the 17-28 as I wasn't sure which focal length I'd like best and seem to be using 20mm most of the time. Then again I dont have any regrets, l really like it and the versatility is worth something as well.
Samyang AF 18mm F2.8 - because its super light, 64mm tall, its perfect for walking-talking-vlogging at arm's length. (sadly not weather sealed, as with the 35mm) Samyang AF 35mm F2.8 - because its the smallest FE lens made at only 33mm tall allowing you to fit the camera in your coat pocket. never need to put the cap on your camera anymore. I'll ignore obvious Sony and Tamron choices in between... Samyang AF 85mm F1.4 - because its big and good glass for ~$500 to shoot the night sky and anything else in the dark. Super well weather sealed.
Love the look of that 20mil (aperture ring is kind of sick). My work finally received our a7s3 last week, and the first lens I threw on was my Sigma 24 1.4... its a cream-beast. You should rent that new Sigma 35mm f/1.2 !
I needed this video a few months ago when I was facing this same conundrum. I'm glad I didn't skip to the end and watched it all to see you pick the Sony. I love my 20miller and have no regrets
Hello, I just bought the lens today, wanna ask one question: does it make the sound like 3 clicks when turning on - its like 3 times it sets the aperture and makes weird sound - or it's something off?
The only thing that I see is an advantage for 20mm is the aperture. I miss that sometimes on my 17-28mm. But using it on 28mm gives me a little bit of macro, because of its 19cm minimum focus distance. I can say that those extra 3mm is a bunch, love the 17mm angle. You should try 55mm 1.8 for sure, the optics is Zeiss, nuff said. One of the sharpest Sony lenses, very fast AF, and its super light.
Entertaining video. Nice job making it. I'm using the 24GM for photo only I hear the 20 is just as good. Also have the Voigt 21 3.5 which has very rich colors.
@@scampifingers going with the sony. I currently have the 28-75 so I wouldn’t bother much abt the 28mm focal length, and do I reaaaally need the extra 3mm from the 20mm? Am more inclined towards the wider aperture f/1.8.

Sooooo many good lenses for the E mount. I recently bought the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN, and earlier this year also purchased the Sigma 24-70mm DG DN. But, I'm seriously considering adding the Sony 20mm f1.8 to my bag (that's how I ended up here), but I also need a telephoto lens that can go longer than 85... I just don't have enough money to buy them all! Ugh.
@@stefankoen nice! The 85 is such a good lens. I have to call Sigma, though. I just noticed the 24-70 has some specks of dust inside of it. No biggie to me, I’ve been using it all weekend, but still.

My a7siii is also first full frame :) though i used university media studio full frame camera for years befote It is so hard to decide. I feel i will save for 16-35 so 20 sounds like better addition to upcoming collection, but 17-28 is pretty good too, but it may feel obsolete when I finnaly save up for sony 16-35, but that may happen not too soon. Everything would be perfect on 20mm but that focus breathing ah
Awesome video! I have been deciding between these two lenses for the Sony A7c. I was leaning towards the Sony and that 1.8 aperture just looks fantastic!

I’m 3 mins in I’m guessing Tamron before i get to the end.... lets see...Doh! I got it wrong. The Tammy is awesome to me i think the extra wide distortion gives you the “character” i love the lens for music videos. Anyway i enjoyed the vid as i sit here layed up with a bad back surfing the tube.

@@noe-tobin I watched loads more of Zachs videos they're all with the 20mm and there was something I liked about it (for video mainly) although he is using the sony a7s iii plus I would like to match it with the 35mm GM and maybe the brand new sigma 28-70 that was released yday.. down the line this year... I noticed when taking pictures of people its not very flattering at all tho so if that's something that's important id take that into account. I use my 35mm for that kinda stuff tho
I know there's a million vids on the Sony 35 1.8, BUT, being that 20 and 35 are similar in price, maybe a little lens battle is in order?? I also have NOT seen a 'practicality battle', or like which has more uses creatively, professionally and practically, Specifically, which is more useful to a content creator... for real, I just like the way the 35 makes faces look, but ya can't vlog with it, but dang it... that 35 tho! Anywaaaaaay, just a suggestion for a video idea! PS: FujiJuice is in your heart, not is your camera.
As a 35mm 1.8 owner, I myself am debating about getting this 20mm. Unpopular opinion, but I love wide angle portaits. I’ve seen awesome enviromental portraits done with the 20mm
@@scampifingers great image quality, sharp, lite lens and compact. I like wider. 24mm is my favorite focal length. For RU-vid videos in my house at my desk it sits arm length away no issues with focusing. I am happy with just the 17-28mm & 28-75mm. Solid combo.
Dude. I legit left Fuji after many a failed videos trying to get my damn xt4 and xt3 to stay locked to any and all faces. I love you Fuji, but you’re not it anymore.
