Hi Tony, would like to tidy up my Dad's AA badge, issued in 1963. I've stripped, fettled and repainted the yellow backing plate, but metal polish(Autosol) and a Dremel (fabric pads) cleans the front plate up, but nowhere near a proper shine. Can you give some info as to how you got the mirror shine on the front plate? Many thanks in advance for anything you can suggest.
Hi Kargol48. If it's pitted and rusty, try gently scrubbing it using a fine, Brass wire brush and light oil - lots of oil. Afterwards try using a firm buffing pad in your Dremel and, initially, use toothpaste before following with metal polish. I can't guarantee this will work because I don't know what condition your badge is in, but it might improve the shine. Good luck. 👍
Hi mjedwardsable As far as I am aware, they're not all that valuable or collectable, since they were produced in their 1,000's. Unless, of course, yours are very rare vintage versions. 👍
