Absolute gold! These home grown vehicles outperformed anything the yanks had in Vietnam and went on to serve with distinction in many a rural fire brigade and on farms once their military career was at an end. Long live the Inter!

Year the best military truck by far if only they had of upgraded it so we never would've had to have the unimog

I much refer the 6x6 version of the ACCO. So very very capable. Amazing where I could take it. The 4x4 is very rough riding. 6x6 is comparatively smooth. The 6x6 trunion suspension is fantastic, the articulation is second to none and comparable to the Scammel.

As a kid in the late 1970s i visited woodside army base with a willys jeep and the LandCruiser club we watched off road demos then had a go . Once all the LandCruiser s ,landrovers were un bogged a 6x6 just ploughed thru no problems. A few weeks later we went to the murray mouth in the jeep and watched the army who was there training by chance. They were jumping the new unimogs and both 4x4 & 6x6 acco s and a small armored car . It was so cool to see real bunny bashing. Today the greenies and national pks would be balling their eyes out abd ministers would have weeks of question time . Now you cant even drive to the murray mouth . But i will never forget how the Acco s especially the 6x6 jumped those sand hills . So much so i got one nearly 40yrs later

I notice that the 6 wheeler it was replacing appears to be a WWII Studebaker gun carrier...says a lot for how great those old buggers must have been. (I've heard that the AACO was modeled on the basic principles of the CMP Blitz Wagons, with technical revisions to bring it into 1958.)

The International ACCO is Australia’s own Truck just like the FJ Holden is Australia’s own car . 😊

I'm confused. The video mentioned self supporting and self reliance. It went on to talk about locally made and designed. It said the idea was to support local industry. It's August 2020. Can someone tell me what they were talking about ?

@Rod 1984 Support Australian made and demand fresh farm produce from local farmers.

Independent, self-reliant people are too hard to control and manipulate. Today, we can't even manufacture pencils in Australia without relying on materials from elsewhere.

@@cameltrader99 We can't even make paper bags nowadays. Shopping got delivered the other day in paper bags made in Vietnam.

I don't know anything about these trucks but if it was good enough to replace a Studebaker 6x6 it must have been good 👍

AACO stood for Australian Army Cab Over? ACCO 'butter boxes' stood for Australian Commercial Cab Over? Is this correct?

ACCO stands for 'Australian Constructed Cab Over' to describe configuration and origin of the truck.

36:45 The flapping turn / stop arm No blinkers ?
@johnd8892
@johnd8892 3 года назад
Took well into the fifties for the new invention of blinker indicators to be made legal in Australia let alone used. Until then and quite a few years after every trick had the mechanical turn signal arm to be seen beyond the load width to replicate the legally required hand signals. The hand also could be made to go vertical for the stop signal All long ago and nearly forgotten. My father had quite a few in the rafters of his garage from his old trucks.
