My cousin was a captain in the SADF and lead units that were raining hell on the Cubans in Angola. They were very good and so were their troops. He said being a conscript army they had problems as they had highly trained crews but had to give them up when their service was finished. They even kept calling him up till enough was enough… he didn’t want to join the permanent force.
There are a lot of negative nancies on the Internet claiming that because of the Canadian Bilistics expert Gerald Bull's involvement in the g5 and g6 South Africa should not be proud. Gerald Bull gave about 10 nations the same technology including Israel. America and Canada had it but just were not interested in it. South Africa is the only one to take it to the next level and modified the hell out of it. The G6 broke the record by firing a shell 76 km. Nothing comes close. And the development of the G6 started in the late '60s
@@eliyahudbenperetz1615 Oh wow!! That is incredible!! Glad you made it out alive. Your name is definitely Israeli/Jewish origin. As for being born on the wrong side of history, I guess that depends on your convictions. Shalom Aleichem.
@@eliyahudbenperetz1615 I know of several SANDF troops who were friends or family that fought during that time period. Battle of the Lombo river rings a bell. Massive respect to you!
True, and the first South African guns weren't even built there. They came straight from Bull's company via Spain to circumvent sanctions, all at the behest of the CIA, and this is what got Bull locked up for a deal he didn't even want to make in the first place.
They worked wirth Bull, he (vie SRC) supplied the first projectiles and assisted with the base bleed, the gun was mainly South African with a bit of help from Bull.
