Of course Aaliyah could belt but she would always say her signature style was the breathy falsetto. She had a mellifluous sound and could really animate or bring a song to life by having her voice and her body (thru dance) ride the beat/melody.
This is definitely one of her more ballad-y type songs. Knowing what we know now about her relationship with R Kelly... The song hits totally different. Aaliyah was Jane Doe #1 in the R Kelly lawsuit. You're so right about her style, Aaliyah even today is still the coolest. Her originality and authenticity still hits over 20 years after her death. A whole generation of artists and people in general were inspired by and still are inspired by Aaliyah. She changed the whole game. The coolest thing about her is that every single person she came into contact with, or worked with, every single person has said such kind things about her. The people she worked with on her final movie were all heartbroken when she died, the cast, the crew, even her voice coach she worked with weekly via phone to come up with how her character would talk in the movie.... They all were heartbroken and all expressed how amazing and how different she was. She was a beautiful, talented, class act through and through.

@@CuirPhotodotNet yes!! He wasn't familiar with her work at all and became an instant supporter after working with her. Everyone that worked with her felt this way. I recall seeing so many rock artists doing interviews and being heartbroken over her passing... They all said she came up to me behind the scenes at a show and said omg I love this track, this track, this track... and we fell in love with her. She really was just something super different. And just when you thought you knew who she was, she would come out of left field with something so different than you'd expect. Super dimensional.
Aaliyah could really Sing. But most of her songs weren’t written with alot of Belting that’s why you don’t see it from her a lot . I Care 4 U is another song she sings with a lot of Belting . Plus she’s 16 here .

Diane Warren was one of the very best of ballad writers back then. If you heard a beautiful song it was very often written by Diane Warren (leave out the people who wrote their own).
I think she styled herself really I remember a video on RU-vid or something where she said ppl make fun of her cause she dress like a Tom boy 👦 😅😊but she likes her style everything u see and hear is her it’s how she wants it to be ❤
Favorite Aaliyah song without a doubt... this was incredible. The album version is ok, but this is insanely good. Diane Warren wrote "Run to the Arms" by X-Scape. You can hear the similarities in the two. Great reaction my guy. New sub here.
