Aaliyah was a Lyric Coloratura Soprano. Aaliyah said she was a soprano in several interviews. She was a classic trained singer since she was a little girl and she knew exactly what she was talking about. Her voice is mostly treble. And despite having great low notes, there is no mezzo-soprano in her voice. Mariah is a Lyric Coloratura Soprano as well.
Aaliyah is a lyric mezzo-soprano. Her live range spanned from D3 - G#5. She has a warm, silky timbre with a well-developed low register and a gentle volume in the upper register.
Actually she ranges from G#2-Bb6 singing. There’s a F6 in the background @ 2:54 also she has an Eb6 & Bb6 in “Journey to the past he past “ Her live vocal range is B2-A5
@AaliyahDawnTEAM me too would of loved to seen more ballads but then that is what separated her from the rest her futuristic beats and chill vocals i would of loved to seen and I care 4 U or giving up performed live and an I refuse live backed by an orchestra. I think for most people myself included who dont know notes her voice does sound deep on her low notes i think had she kept growing she would of been a vocal beast
For people claiming that aaliyah is a mezzo is wrong. Although se could sing low, anything under a3 sounds forced af, plus her timbre is way too light in the heights of her voice, it has a smooth high texture but not a rich one like a mezzo soprano. She's a light lyric soprano with a very well developed lower register.
Can this song be purchased? Aaliyah only "The One I Gave My Heart To" ? And where. I don't want covers. They'll NEVER be as perfect as she was! Would have been a song I sent to the one... How could the one I was so true to, just tell me lies? How could the one I gave my world to, just throw my world away? Tell me... And to you Aaliyah, your voice always pitch perfect, RIP Baby girl.
I stated she was a Coloratura Mezzo-Soprano a while ago, lol. I was tryna figure that out a while ago. But, I think I said Lyric Coloratura Mezzo-Soprano. One of my fave vocals from her besides "Givin' Up" & "Journey to the Past."
Damn did I ever view this video?, lol. I LOVE Aaliyah, & this is my song. & Mezzo's can sing high & low comfortably most of the time. That's why they're mezzo's, their voice is in the middle, but they're able to reach the lower notes as well the higher notes comfortably. & I don't think where you're necessarily comfortably singing is what you are (at least all the time). Mariah can comfortably singer high & low, but she says herself her voice lies naturally in her lower register (timbre).
for those of us who cant read notes myself included can you put the octaves i may get some slack for this but Aaliyah had some seriously underutilised pipes i think her voice was made to sing jazz the tone and phrasing I think her voice would of became deeper as she got older what do you guys think her voice would have evolved to
