He made 5 out of 6 in first try and one at the second attempt (same as Lavine). Both did not only the best dunks in the history of the contest (I would say even better than Vince and J-Rich), but also with a quality you see once every decade or so. In addition his 2020 contest was pretty much on the same level. Still no trophy for the best dunker in the history of the contest is a crime.
what’s REALLY underrated about his 2016 performance specifically is that Stuff (the mascot) is 6’9. He was literally clearing someone with a LeBron James-type build on nearly EVERY dunk. Way better than clearing a 7 footer only once like most dunk contest performances
@@t-mofisher8922 Because it's all about the actual difficulty and clearing someone that is 7ft will always be more difficult than someone that is 6'9. Of course constantly jumping over 6'9 is difficult as well since it's tiring.
I’ve been watching since the late 70’s…that one with his butt over the mascot, legs straight out, pass the ball under his legs and basically reverse dunk it…well, only hope I live to see what would ever dethrone that as the GOAT dunk.
My heart goes out to this guy.. robbed 2 times by the NBA and their terrible judges and rating system. Best dunker to never win. Only other place you see this is in a video game.
@@datrueMrworkethic Nope. His through the legs "from the free throw line" was more like "2 feet past the free throw line". Gordon was more creative in every aspect and did the more difficult dunks.
@@skatevidcentral He did windmill it from on the line, I am not sure I've ever seen anyone jump from behind the line. I've watched replays of all of the "free throw line" dunks I can think of. I think Jordan could have took off a foot or two before further from the basket, he was still pretty high in the air when he dunked it. I think that was 1988.
His creativity alone should have won him the crown. I watched it live and not only did he display some serious athleticism and creativity, but he also completed each of his dunks on the first try despite the degrees of difficulty he had to face in order to complete them. Jumping over a mascot on a hover board without hurting him or knocking him over while still completing a dunk at the same time is no easy task even for an NBA player like Gordon. I’m not sure if Lavine would have been able to complete those very same dunks. Lavine’s dunks were great, but they were repetitive and nowhere near as creative or spectacular as Gordon’s were.
@@Wyndamn thats not nba stfu, and he is shorter which gives justin more air flight time. Gordon is way too tall to pull that dunk off but he did. and Justin is not NBA
Vince Carter layed down in the air though. Lol But this dude did skme if the best dunks I've ever seen in my life. I'd even say some of the best dunks anyone has ever seen. He definitely got robbed. Levines dunks look average ckmpared to Gordon's if you ask me!
7:11 - This dunk may look simple but nobody has ever made this dunk the way Aaron did it. The degree of difficulty was frightening for anyone to challenge. The elevation and the hang time was perfectly awesome. Aaron did not hesitate doing this dunk because he knew what he was doing. Sadly, he never raised the trophy for the title. Slamdunk champ who never was.
I’m 46 years old, and have witnessed the best of the best you name it I’ve seen it. Gordon’s last Dunk was a piece of art, I place it up there next to MJ’s, Wilkins, Carter. To this day I’m in misbelief he did not win. Zack Lavine perform the exact show that won him the trophy 🏆 a year ago. Gordon’s performance was something new, never seen before he clearly got robbed.
To be fair, Gordon is suppose to be able to get higher than Lavine since he's a foward. Therefore it just makes Lavines dunks look even more impressive since he's smaller than Gordon.
danny camello it's actually harder for a bigger guy to look more graceful in the air. Smaller guys usually get higher off the ground so it looks better. Gordon getting as high as he did was more impressive.
That smile on his face where Gordon felt the entire world was watching and he put on a show ..young man you can live the rest of your life proud that you just did the damn thing and you know it
Isaiah H everyone has their opinions , I know majority will agree Gordon won in 2016 and 2020 .. don’t get me wrong lavine did his thing and he’s one of my favorite players/dunkers but what Gordon did in 2016 is mind blowing that sit down dunk over the mascot is easily the greatest dunk in the history of the contest
Cameron Ortiz Lmao, you're hearing and repeating what the narrators are saying to sound smart, no? He CUPPED it, he didn't cuff it. Your comment was also grammatically incorrect.
In the history of all dunk contests, and maybe even of all the sports, thats the worst robbery i have ever seen. Lavine is good, but maaaan... Aaron had truly a very special performance that time.
@@DTB1995 yeah so lets just score zach's dunks less than 50. They should have scored the windmill from freethrow a 49 right? They should have talked like "hey though nobody has seen a windmill freethrow, we should score it less than the sitting dunk cause its better. So someone should give a 9 then the rest are 10s" You are fcuking stupid if you think zach's dunks wasn't a 50.
BY FAR, the greatest dunks since The Vince Carter Showcase back in 2000. Aaron Gordon had timing, creativity, power, and longevity. Zach LaVine's dunks are all from the run and there is only so much you can do with that. It's where AG should have won hands down. Shaq and Dikembe shouldn't have even been judges in the first place. I was ok with the Iceman. But it is high time to put full fledged dunkers at the judge's table. A Larry Nance. A Harold Minor. Why not Dominique? That dunk where the mascot was spinning with the hoverboard was the greatest dunk since 2000. His timing had to be perfect because quite a few things could have gone wrong and he executed it to perfection ON THE FIRST TRY!! Truly do NOT know what the hell the judges were looking at? CLEARLY FUCKIN ROBBED!!
That between both legs dunk has to be like the best dunk of all time... His head was at the rm and his feet were both right under the rim! Aaron Gordon you won that hands down
AG going underneath both legs while he was in a sitting position mid air OVER top of the mascot was the greatest dunk I have ever witnessed in my entire life. I have watched this dunk contest numerous times and it gives me chills every time.
This was such a joke. For some reason they wanted Lavine to repeat last year no matter what happened. Aaron's dunks were so much more creative and well executed the Zack's. Plus Zack copied one of his dunks and somehow got a higher score. Even though Aaron didn't officially win, nobody is gonna forget those dunks. They were some of the best dunks in dunk contest history. I would put them up there with some of Vince carter's beat dunks.
That dunk underneath both thighs alone should’ve won him the title alone, take a look at the slow-motion replay, that is what you call power and finesse at the same time.
I never felt sorry for an NBA player. Aaron Gordon was the first and last one. The dude was ALL IN on the dunk contest. You dont see that often, especially not after they snubbed him TWICE. I stopped watching the contest because of this.
That's the best set of dunks of any slam dunk contest. AG is a true artist, unfortunately like every artist misunderstood by the establishment. The people's champ for sure.
Chrissan Mae Poserio 2 years later and I’m still disappointed that Gordon didn’t win... his dunks were just better setup. But don’t get me wrong, Lavine can dunk!
"Lavine's dunks are repetitive" Fucking stupid people says that. All you see is the free throw line. But not the variations that he did. Have you seen an alley oop, windmill, and a fcuking between the legs from free throw line? No fucking way. But ofcourse i get it. Those 2 dunks by gordon are the best of the night. But after the sitting dunk, zach followed with the windmill freethrow dunk. You expect the judges to score less than 50??? The fuck is wrong with you people.
lost the contest when judges gave lavine a 50 for his scoop windmill even though gordon did the same thing right before and better. crazy how bad he got robbed. both dunks over the mascot are literally the two best dunk contest dunks of all time
He clearly won this dunk contest. LaVine dunks were just dunks. In 2018 Gordon announced he will not be in anymore dunk contests ever again. I don't blame him!! THOSE THREE DUNKS WITH THE MASCOT WERE THE BEST DUNKS I EVER SEEN.
@@xaviervega468 yeah but if u compare that to Gordon's dunk it's not gonna be as amazing Also almost anybody can dunk from the freethrow if they have a 40 inch vert so yeah Aaron Gordon robbed
Zach killed it but AG's dunks were just unique and creative, I think he should have been slightly ahead of Zach. They need to think over the grading system and not hand 50's that easily. Maybe split the rating in 3, like 5 for jumping, 5 for power, and 10 for creativity.
Him and Vince Carter are the only two dunk contest performances that are worth watching over and over and over again. And sadly he didn't even win! Creativity 10, execution 9.5. And creativity is very difficult to have in a dunk contest where we've seen everything in 30 years.
