The Guardians not making it far into the playoffs is a fair take but the Guardians not even making it into the playoffs is very, very silly. They would need to fall off HARD.
Yea even the point about how he thinks the twins and royals make it can still happen. I believe theirs going to be 3 Al central teams in the playoffs because the closest is Red Sox and their not too terribly close to the guards 7 gb so that would be a hell of a fall off
@@Djdjsosskdndkbabe played against plumbers bonds did steroids and the average fastball was probably 90-91 when he played judge is facing the best pitching we have ever seen and hitting at this rate
Bonds having a .OBP over .600 for a full season is wild, people where terrified to throw a pitch to him, imagine if intentional walks didn't exist, he'd have like 900 hrs
People don’t realize how large Aaron Judge is. 6’7” and over 280. The only player I remember being that big was Frank Howard back in the 60’s-70’s. A distinct advantage but also he is quite maneuverable in batting and fielding adventures!
Sometimes it can be a disadvantage in ways though, giant players tend to be less durable, so much more stress on your joints. They also tend to be slow, and you need fast hands in baseball. Judge, Howard, Winfield, Frank Thomas too, these were all exceptionally talented athletes that just happened to be sasquatch monsters. Most sasquatch monsters are awkward and slow.
so thats why we shouldn't hype him up as much, his production is relied on his build. If he was 6'2 n 225 lbs, he wouldnt do what he is doing now. So, it seems what he does is more of his size than actual skill.
Not trying to outshine Judge here but it’s pretty sick that Jaren Duran is now the only player in MLB history with 20HRs, 30SB, 402B and 10 triples in a season
Duran is so good dude. Bro is having basically an MVP type season but barely anyone is talking about him because of Judge and Witt. Bro has 8+ WAR in AUGUST and won’t even be MVP runner up. It’s a right season wrong time typa deal. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves.
I think Guardians missing the playoffs is a real bad take. This is not necessarily me buying Guardians stock but selling HARD on Red Sox and Mariners stock. Somebody has to be the third wild card and the Guardians have an 8 game lead on the Sox and Mariners for it with like 30 games left to play.
This could be a bad take, but I kind of like Pete Alonso to the nationals. He’s a good veteran presence who can slot in the four for a young and talented team. With his pop nationals are a scary team
@@timmyturntteam is incredibly young with their oldest player being Yelich who magically has turned turned the clock back this year. William Contreras seems like a player that’ll age well that can continue to hit for a high average for several more years. And some of their other best players are under 25: Turang, Mitchell, Churio and Frelick. Is it a stretch to say the brewers as a dynasty? For sure, but not out of the realm of possibility. No team in the central looks like they’re ready to take them down for the next couple of seasons
I barely count seasons before integration because the talent pool was infinitely lesser (since it barred players of color). So when comparing pre and post integration players and seasons, I ALWAYS favor post integration. The talent pool overall was MUCH better post integration
There’s no way having the best year ever literally just a couple years ago Ohtani pitched for the best ERA and also hit 300 with like 50 bombs and 40 stolen bases
Merrill is top 50 player in the league? That’s your only argument for ROTY? What about the guy leading the league in ERA for SP as a rookie. Sure he lacks a few innings but he’s still the better player this year. And since everyone only cares about advanced metrics. Who has the higher WAR between Merrill and Skenes?
this is funny. without any bias, merrill deserves it way more, he has had way bigger of an impact on the team, and the only reason why skenes would win is because he is more popular. this rookie sp year isnt good so ofc he leads it. learn baseball and then comment. you clearly dont watch baseball
@@TatisIsGOAT "this rookie sp isn't good this year" yoshinobu Yamamoto and shota imanaga are rookies too who are playing or played great lmao seems like you don't watch enough lil bro
Guardians not winning the division is a very reasonable take, but missing the playoffs entirely is going to take a lot. You would need Boston (6.5 GB) to really get hot plus both the Royals and Twins to pass them up too.
The messed up thing is Barry Bonds 73 homer season may not have even been his best. 2004 was better in my book. Slashed .362/.609(!!!!)/.812 with a 1.422 OPS (!!!!) & 263 OPS+ with more runs and more walks. Even in 2002, he slashed .370/.582/.799 with a 268 OPS+. I'm a diehard lifelong Yankees fan, born into a diehard Yankees family. I love Judge, lived down the road from the Railriders stadium and saw him in person and got autographs plenty of times. He may be my favorite player of all time. But Bonds was just that dude.
While it's very possible that the Royals or Twins snatch the division, who would overtake the Guardians for the wild card? The Red Sox are falling apart, the Mariners could still catch the Astros for the West but they're not catching any of the wild cards and the Rays and Tigers just aren't that good.
Mark "Phillies are hitting their lull" The Braves are doing better Are 6-3 against Philly this season Also Mark: I don't think they win the series this weekend
I think Aaron Judge is having the 3rd best season of all time behind those two insane ped bonds seasons. But with no peds Aaron Judge Is having the best hitting season in MLB history(This is coming from a Mets fan)
The fact that Marc is scared of my Braves again, you know it’s gonna be a good day! But being honest, the Padres and Phillies are still the teams to beat in the NL.
This is a hot take. Mike Trout gets rid of his trade clause and gets traded to the Phillies and becomes their new left fielder due to his lesser mobility and move Schwarber to DH. This is a change of scenery for Trout as it’s a new league and a new division.
Schwaber is already the everyday DH, Marsh, Rojas, Wilson, and the other dude spread across the outfield. Trout would be an upgrade but I feel that what he provides to your team isn't worth what you're going to have to pay him and give up in trade
with kyle tucker returning in september it’s going to be really hard for the mariners to make it past the astros. It’s AL west or bust for them and right now it’s looking like bust lol
Nah he’s prolly like 5th or 6th, I still think Gunnar is 4th and then 5th you could have Guerrero, JRam, Devers, Yordan or Duran, but imo I’d have Guerrero and Devers over him so he’d be like 7th
@@sir.muffiniii7011 I respect that take but Duran is the first player in history to have 10 triples 20 homeruns 30 stolen bases and 40 doubles an not to mention an insane 8.1 bWAR already which is third in the MLB and I did my research before righting this comment
The Padres is scary as hell. I would not want to face that team for sure, the only way that they get eliminated IMO is if they cool down around the end of the season, same with the diamondbacks.
Skenes is absolutely the ROTY. The only reason people think it might be Jackson's is because he's had clutch moments on a contending team. Switch Skenes and Merrill to the opposite teams and everyone would give it to Skenes without a second thought, because he has been statistically better with better underlying metrics. There's still a very legitimate argument for Skenes to be in Cy Young contention this year even, and I don't think anyone is thinking that Jackson Merrill deserves to be in MVP consideration
Team success shouldn't be a factor unless it is a close race. Because while you may think it isn't fair to punish a player for playing on a bad team, at the same rate you would be punishing the other player by not giving extra weight to their playing in higher pressure games and being truly valuable. Like if two guys have mirrored seasons. Literally the same stats. But one is on a 110 game winner and the other a team that lost 110. I'm sorry. I'm giving it to the player who played and produced in meaningful games because that's a higher level of difficulty than hitting a homer when you're down 10 runs. That's why they need to make more of the MLB POY Award and create rules for MVP to limit it to players on contending teams. Not necessarily playoff teams, but you shouldn't be winning MVP for a bottom feeder team. Maybe something as simple as top half gets MVP and bottom gets POY. Make it so you can't win both and then people don't lose out on earned awards because their team sucks.
Judge is impressive of course, historic even… but if shohei gets 50-50 for the first time in MLB history then Judge isn’t even the best offensive player this season.
Eh.. it's debatable, Judge has a better .OBP, .AVG, and more HRs, in the event of a 50/50 Shohei would just have more stolen bases, he would also have less RBIs than Judge 🤷
I don’t think you’re understanding, being that big and that fast to steal 50 bags and hit 50 homers is so hard to do that no one has ever done it. Not Barry Bonds, not Griffey not trout. Barry has done everything and more that judge has done this season. Same with many others. So in terms of history….. shohei might be doing something only he can do
@@RMgolf Doing something only you can do doesn't necessarily mean being the best Judge is like 6' 7" 280 or something like that and plays center field, can Shohei do that?
@@jbryant5253 Again it’s not a comparison of judge to shohei it’s a comparison of shohei to anyone else who has ever played baseball. Many players in history could hit 50+ homers, many players could also steal 50+ bags but no one ever did both. Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Mickey Mantel, Mark McGuire, Ken Griffey Jr, Hank Aaron all had equivalent seasons to Aaron Judge currently (if not better). So in simple terms Aaron Judge is amongst the greats no doubt but if shohei gets 50/50 he’s alone. Which is more impressive. Which is my whole point.
@@RMgolf "If Shohei gets 50-50 for the first time in MLB history then Judge isn't even the best offensive player this season" you absolutely were comparing them.
Padres HAVE to get hot late in the year, they play emotionally more so than other teams, if they’re slumping come playoffs they’re losing first round. If they’re hot they can go all the way.
When you look at Judges wRC+, his WAR pace, OPS+ and compare it to the best of all time. He's right there. And the guys ahead of him are largely pre integration or steroid cheats. Judge is on pace for around 11.6-12.0 WAR in an era where the baseline value of a replacement player is higher than it has ever been. And again, the only guys ahead of that, as far as position players are pre integration or cheaters. Since Bonds cheated to have his best season, it is ineligible to me. Why should it count at all? It would be like having an incredible bank robber called the best businessman/woman. Judge is having the greatest discussion offensive season anyone has ever had relative to era even if you count Bonds cheating years. Bonds era hitting was WAY up. And it is WAY down over the past couple seasons. Bonds batted .329 in a league where average was much higher than the .240ish it is now. He hit 73 in a year other guys were hitting 60+, 50+, 40+, tons of guys with 30+. Judge will be the only one with 60 if he gets there, only Shohei looks like they've got a shot at 50. All told, there may be like 6 guys who hit more than 35. It is much more impressive to hit a home rip in in 2024 than it was in the early 2000s. There might be just 10 or fewer guys over .300 and Judge is batting in the .330s But that's all moot because Bonds great seasons post 99 are all BS.
So, I’m not sure I feel this 100 and am open to debate, but if someone beat a record like sprint speed or high jump because of steroids, it’s inherently unfair and should be discounted. Imagine if Usain Bolt wasn’t called the fastest man ever because someone roided up beat him. Because it happened doesn’t mean it should count. Not saying bonds was a bad player, but he wasn’t a home run hitter like he’s known as.
That’s different, baseball is so much more mental than track is, track is almost 100% based on your physical abilities, but baseball you have to be on time for the pitch, recognize what pitch it is, tell if it’s a strike or not, tell if you want to swing or not, have elite level mechanics and be able to square up that ball for 162 games and, that’s way different, do the roids help? Sure, but they don’t have as big of an impact as mechanics, there is a reason Dee-Strange Gordon didn’t hit 40 HR when he took roids
I’m not saying he was a bad hitter, not even in the same realm as Gordon. But he lost his right to be considered the best season ever when he decided to take steroids
Bro the twins are not playing better they have lost like 5 games in a row and can’t beat a good team they looked absolutely lost against the braves who are lowkey mid this year
saying every hot player is having the best season ever is getting tired and weak. things become less important and impressive the more often things happen. expecting anything less from judge is rather stupid. hes not like any other mlb player EVER. he should be doing shit nobody has been doing every year he plays. he should be an nba player not a mlb player. no pro athletes defense hundreds of millions of dollars to play fuckin games. pro sports doesnt save lives
@sir.muffiniii7011 judge is often injured and doesn't hit in the clutch. Soto is better than Judge, Wade Boggs is better, Tony Gwynn is better. Judge is good but not that good
Merrill absolutely deserves rookie of the year but your forgetting two very important things 1. The league hates us and 2. The league wants skenes to win so I don't think he will take it
