@@katiecannon8186Lex is a phoney. It's a gaslighting technique . He does it in a lot of interviews. Allows the interviewee to speak freely and then unexpectedly 'correct them' whilst in the middle of a train of thought. It breaks momentum and draws attention back to the interviewer. 'Oh sorry to interrupt but if you could not swear.../ Excuse me but some viewers might be vegan/ I didn't mean to cut you off but my best friend is paraplegic and blind..can you not use the words 'movement and vision', please?...go ahead with your story." Piss off, Lex. I only listened to this because of Aaron and all the tea he's spilling. And his head. I like his head. It's shiny.

Lex Friedman is not the first RU-vid host to get butt-hurt about Aaron having a sense of humor about Scientology. I think the sense of humor is healthy and has helped Aaron cope well with what was a rough set of experiences in Scientology. He grew up in that system. He spent many many years studying Scientology precepts. Aaron has every right to laugh at what he now sees as the irony and ridiculousness of those precepts. It doesn't mean he doesn't have a thorough understanding of them. Lighten up, Lex. Aaron's experience is his experience. He doesn't have to act like an intellectual snotnose or a hostage victim in order to competently discuss these ideas!

I wouldn't call Lex butt hurt as Aaron does talk mockingly/flippantly about Scientology beliefs. Yes, the church is a harmful cult, though some of the underlying beliefs have value. Mocking another's beliefs is no way to get through to them. Just as Aaron came across the message board and it didn't resonate with him, neither will this disrespectful manner.

Well, that was nothing short of awesome. Top interviewer, top interviewee. As an ex-Scientologist I have to say Aaron absolutely nailed every question with the same reality I have on the subject. In Aaron's defense on the whole 'Bravery' thing, I posit that at the end of the day, it is his KNOWLEDGE of the organization, and what little power they have over ex members (besides tearing your family and networks apart) that makes it so easy to speak up - not bravery. He has no fear of them; therefore, bravery doesn't even come into it. Thank you, guys, I am over a decade out, yet that was so cathartic and therapeutic. Wow!

Kudos to you for your honesty, openness and personally, I do think you're brave for doing what you do in speaking out. It's incredible how fair you were (and continue to be) to an organisation that rips families apart, yours included. Forgiving family members who have disconnected from you and your wife and your children is one thing - they're living in a cult and continue to follow its rules and practices. That's one thing and I respect you so much for remembering that. But to put across such a fair explanation of what this cult is and what it does.... wow. You're an amazing human being. As someone who has also grown up in this. It absolutely killed me hearing him talking about the family separation. My sister is still deeply involved and I am in the stages of tip toeing around the talk. But I have lost countless friends and relationships to this cult
@jacquelineleitch7050

The material isolation in terms of economic slavery et al to the cult in the end clarifies the importance of the family and then the final straw and the sadism in taking the last essence of actual communal bonding as opposed to slave/cult relationships by separating families actually is David Miscavich’s miscalculation - as Aaron says. There is no need to belong to a slave cult in America whether it’s FLDS, LDS, Christian Power organizations, JW, Mormon, Scientology et al. Essentially there is no need for slaves in democracy even if it feels good for a little while. Did Scientology make Aaron very smart. Not necessarily. Was it positive? Not necessarily. You can’t trust the positive feedback from and con any more than you can trust the abuse. It’s all smoke. Look deeper than simple ideas of positive and negative.

I've never been in a cult. I stumbled upon A-Aron by happenstance due to my interest in Leah Remini. When I found out exactly what was going on in Scientology and around her experiences, Tom Cruise's extremely odd behaviors made more sense to me. I wanted so much to be of comfort to Aaron when he spoke of how his wife's family were confronted and threatened with the bonds of their children and grandchildren it broke me seeing him cry. 😢 I am at the end and am just hearing about his twin. I have not heard of him. Another heart breaking moment. I appreciate these two hours win Aaron. They only paid me like $20 a week for all the work. I wasnt allowed to associate with non scientologist. I didnt last long, so i never got to the weird stuff. Only did the auditing once. They dug deep into my family history. It was unnerving. @@kandilulahe’s horrible. He knows NOTHING about Scientology and actually said he read about it on Wikipedia! He then tells Aaron how to feel and what to say. This is annoying. It’s rude as hell to not DO any prep. And his ignorance and contempt showed when he scuffed about interviewing David Misgavage. He actually acted like it was possible and that lex could do it what a joke.

This is the first time that I have heard Lex Fridman, and I am impressed! He is a thoughtful and insightful host.

That you interview so many people in so many specializations, your show is an absolute good and I enjoy tuning in.

This is probably the best interview about scientology that I've heard. Great questions from Lex. Great answers from Aaron. Well done guys. Much Love!

This is a good man right here. I love how authentic and up front he was about his while story. The fact that he has no hate in his heart despite the obvious fact that he is still deeply hurt by his experience speaks volumes to his integrity.

It's less a measure of integrity and more his resilience I think. Integrity speaks towards the actions or behavior we engage in without others watching.
