The money flowing through the league then and now is just a different universe. Compare the money difference in another way. John Elway played 16 seasons and his career NFL salary was roughly $45M. So put into context the entire money Elway made in NFL salary for a HOF career would rank 8th in the league compared to the rankings of highest average yearly value of todays QB deals. The reality that a top ten league QB of today will average more money per year than a HOF QB did over 16 seasons is just wild to look back on. But obviously the amount of money flowing in to the league today is so exponentially higher than prior times that the sharp rise of pay across the board is naturally the expectation to happen.

They were talking about receivers having to wait a long time to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame, I can’t imagine how they forgot to mention Art Monk, who waited over 8 years before finally being inducted into the Hall Of Fame. Art Monk held the career receptions for several years before Jerry Rice finally surpassed him. Another receiver who waited along time was Charley Taylor, who also coached Monk under Joe Gibbs. Taylor also held the record for the most career reception for a long time until it was surpassed. Taylor may have been one of the greatest receivers that ever played the game. He played in a time when the defenders could maul the receiver throughout his route. The “bump and run” coverage wasn’t installed into rules until after his career. Him and Drew Pearson had an incredible amount of catches for how the secondary could interfere with the receivers without a penalty. Jerry Rice would have been way to small to pay during that time.Receivers had to be big in order to out fight the defender. Anyway, I agree with what Shannon and Skip were saying about how long even the greatest receivers had to wait to get into the Hall Of Fame. I was just surprised they didn’t mention Art Monk? It just goes to show how Monk is still forgotten today, even though he was the greatest receiver in the game during his career, until Rice came along.

I gotta say this. At age 41 - 47 I played semi-pro football. I was good (according to me...never less than second string on teams that had mostly ex-college and some ex-NFL guys). I find the comments about playing with injury interesting. If I was worth anything as a football player I prided myself on availability. I saw it as an implied definition of a "football player (non-kicker)" that you could tolerate and play through pain. In fact, the only thing that separated me from the athlete who could run was I wasn't interested in not getting hurt. It was just a part of the game that separates the men from the boys (I am not smashing other sports and acknowledge American football is foolish.....but I am a football player at heart).

In the end it’s a team game and he has the pieces around him to be a champion. He’s been great in most clutch moments this year most of the time and one overtime mistake don’t define him because even the greats have made game losing mistakes! Theres a difference between the tantrums/confrontations AB has had in the past 6-7 years and the one he just had. Theres ONE thing you cannot do in a team sport - turn your back on them in battle. And thats exactly what he did, and I cant envision ANY owner/president/GM taking a chance on someone who can throw a fit and walk out on you mid-game. If you cant be counted on in the midst of war, youre USELESS to an organization. PERIOD.

I have always been one of AB's biggest fans .. As much as I think he was THE best wide receiver in the NFL for 5-6 years straight , I am not so sure he will get into the HOF----either 1st ballot or 10th ballot. I think before 2019 , he was on his way to be a LOCK !!! I think when he looks back , he is going to regret his actions terribly . He was always the HARDEST working player on every team he played . He was like a Cinderella story . 6th rd pick on his way to the HOF ( without question ) ... If he is LUCKY , he is a borderline inductee ...I dont see him getting in ... sigh*

Who knows what eventually happens but talent wise Antonio should be a shoo in. He was dominant for a chunk of years, had some success despite causing himself some issues, including six straight seasons where he had 1,000+ yards, caught 100+ balls. These accomplishment🥰

That was so true what Shannon said re: AB’s actions when under Mike Tomlin. The first thing I thought when he did that Facebook Live stunt after that playoff game was wow he is showing Coach Tomlin no respect at all. Like Shannon stated a lot of his bad behavior began in Pittsburgh under Coach Tomlin’s watch. Being a Baltimorean and a fan of the Ravens that cooler incident I saw live.
