That truck could've come from Walker AFB in Roswell, Cannon AFB in Clovis, or Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque. I was at Cannon starting in 1987. The color was a dark blue with yellow stenciling, the tire pressure stencil on the A pillar is from the motor pool.

Hey guys what do you think about the head cam “pov”? I felt it would show what I’m doing way better than me moving a tripod 100 times a minute, which also slows me down. But I get the pov can be a lot of movement. Do you like it or no? Let me know thanks.
@ukaszjaniak801

it would be 100% ok for me, especially if it would help you to speed up

Head cam pov is great but here is a few suggestions so you dont end up like other channels that do the head cam pov badly 1. Try not to bob your head to much or viewers will get dizzy (a better way for looking up and down is picture your camera is a boat and you're the ocean, smooth waves not choppy waves) 2. Looking around suddenly, snapping back and forth also leads to dizzyness (camera will pick up different angle lighting and that can mess with some people if done suddenly. smooth looking around like your grooving to a funky song is easier on the eyes from what the camera picks up) 3. Always remember the camera is on your head when you lean into vehicles to show something. so if your looking down at something and talking about it... we wont see it as we will most likely be looking at the headliner or visors or something lol (head cam pov lacks eye tracker technology so tilt head where your looking rather than your eyes.) Thats the main top 3 of tips i would give. Storm chasing with a head cam is difficult to keep the viewers from getting motion sick but i learned as i went along. Kathleen Brooks is my wifes channel for all our storm chasing stuff. Loving the work you do and the content. All good in that dusty neighborhood lol

That blue on the truck looks like the standard USAF color for all vehicles from the 50s and 60s. My dad was career AF and a civil engineer and I have a photo of him with a brand new '66 Chevy pickup he got when he was in Viet Nam. After he got back, the vehicle he drove was a Ford station wagon, but both were the same blue with yellow lettering. Thanks for sharing this and I look forward to seeing how this project comes along.

Being retired Air Force it would be totally cool if you decided to return the old truck to its roots. Maybe not painting it Air Force Blue again but maybe keeping the patina with highlighting it with some blue and the Air Force numbers in distressed yellow. Just would be a great look. Love this project.

"Gum dipped" was a patented Firestone thing. They dipped all the cords in rubber before making a tire for greater strength and flexibility. It was a premium feature those days, i believe.

Paint it Pontiac blue it's a nice rich deep color and with stands heat very well last for yrs!!! I like knowing my 400 is just what it is, by the heads and color. That truck was some type of grey/blue from factory anyway, could always just throw a 80s 283 in it and still keep it close to factory without putting a golden 350 in it rofl 😂

The best rebuild video on RU-vid. I helped a guy try to find a 235 in 1968 for an old pickup. He wound up rebuilding a 216. He put twin carbs on and a hot cam. Total waste of time. The guy also used rattle cans to paint his pickup. Paint turned out better than the engine did.

Another great video! The tires 'n hubcaps are perfect! Just my style! This truck strikes up an old memory with me. In the late 60's, maybe early '70's, one of my brothers acquired a '51 Chevy truck 'unfinished project' sitting in some guy's garage. It was all there, well, sort of. Chassis, suspension, drive train all assembled, rebuilt and restored with a ton of new parts, bumper to bumper. The body was a different story. He got a cab, a matching title, and a collection of body parts, headlights to tailgate, all taken apart, piled up in the garage, in the yard, in buckets and boxes. He put it all together and drove it for several years. I think there was body parts of every color GM put on them trucks. He finally traded it in on a much newer truck. He regretted that trade for the rest of his life. He passed away unexpectedly in the summer of 2013 and him and I had spoke of that old Chevy truck just 2 or 3 weeks before he died at 66 years old. Sweet memories, thanks, Travis. I can hardly wait to see what's next for this old truck!

Perfection Travis! As a kid I rode thousand of miles in my Dads 54 Chevy Truck wich by the way was a automatic transmission because my Mom could not drive a standard to save her life lol. Dad always liked those white walls and hub caps too. We even had the am radio in it and I can remember Dad having to pull that huge heavy radio and change the vibrator unit out and some tubes from time to time. Great memories for me. Before I became a old timer I had a old timer tell me to put some talcum powder on the tire tubes to help them slide around and settle in better. With new tubes from China I found out that it really helps out because they are so thin. I always try and buy USA made but they aren't what they used to be either Thanks for another Great Vid

You guys have scored a now very rare Post-War US Air Force pickup. I'd like to see it painted in its original Air Force blue with its correct vehicle ID numbers (which can still be made out) in yellow. Even cooler, put back on the yellow (amber) rotating "gumball" roof light and "Supervisor of Flying" markers. This is a true re-enactor vehicle and I wouldn't do anything else with it. Any military vehicle enthusiast would love to have it. Plus, the original Air Force/Army maintenance manuals for this vehicle are available on-line.

It would be much nicer imho if you had painted those rusty rims with a chrome color matching the beautiful chevrolet caps when you had them separated from the tyres since you didn't have the engine ready yet it wouldn't have bothered you to let them cure for a couple of days... The rims look awful... Anyways nice video, beautiful tyres, beautiful truck really cute so round and curvy, keep up greetings from Europe-Greece and our small cars, Jim

Gum dipped was a Firestone patented thing. They dipped all the cords and fibers in rubber gum before making ply's and the tire. They were supposed to be blowout proof because of it.

Still think as previously posted a GMC 270 or 300 big truck engine from the 1950s is a perfect motor for one of these. Well capable of modern highway speeds with a gear change
