"Relatively small shop" not that I am complaining but I work out of an 8 by 8 shed that only stores my tools and lumber, I actually do all the work outside with a single outlet. I also happen to love your videos.

I’ve found from working under similar circumstances, that it makes me a better woodworker, more than better tools do. It forces you to be innovative and find creative solutions for issues only a super small shop has. Those skills carry through to make you better when your shop and tools do finally match your skill set. (I could touch two walls at once in my first shop… I’m 5’ 6”)

I think you can comfortably remove “relatively” when describing your shop.

Softwoods like pine are horrible to work with for fine work, your tools need to be sharper and it's more prone to tearout and cutting / chiselling endgrain can be a nightmare.
@fnordeon1013
@fnordeon1013 3 часа назад
@@rafezetter8003 - could not agree with you more on fir. Possibly pine. Built five solid closets using both materials. The tear out can only be prevented by using chisels to prep the wood for the cuts (I used 2x3.5 beams to get a solid structure) . If you 'break' the top structure of the wood meaby 1/7 of an inch, you can get away with a nice cut.

Oh how times have changed. Sixty or so years ago our favorite scout project was making benches. One of the dads had a shop we could work in. Our benches were basic but functional. We never had a problem finding places (schools, parks etc) to take them and we could get community projects signed off. Ours were nothing like your heirloom quality and it's so sad that places weren't fighting to get yours. . .

I have been in and around the Entertainment industry my entire life...and if it came down to it and it was my life or put something together with a hammer and nail...I'd be dunzo. I know absolutely zero when it comes to woodworking, making things with my hands, etc. If I have to put up a shelf, I call a friend. But sweet hot damn it if I'm not enthralled every time you roll out a video. You make this stuff fascinating and so fun to watch. Some of my favorite content on RU-vid. It is QUITE noticeable in my feed when it's been a few weeks since you've posted. Keep up the great work, man.

When you added a few soundtracks, it became much more informative to watch, I can now understand the jokes, irony and details that escape due to my not very good knowledge of English. It sounds great in Russian, although some words, such as "dollars", are not translated by AI and it's very funny to hear, but it gives some warmth to the whole video. The table turned out to be gorgeous, thanks for sharing your videos.

Your family history, in which you cite your grandfather's capable dedication to woodworking was a considerable highlight of this video. I have ADHD (that's my weak excuse that few would or perhaps should understand) and have never been able to get significant traction with woodworking, but for reasons I cannot understand, perhaps the phenomenon of vicarious experience, that even with the historical, it is a sincere pleasure to learn of your grandfather mastering a craft and leaving artifacts of his accomplishment behind to inspire we who have followed him and who, ourselves, will inspire or fail to inspire our own future generations. Pardon the long blab. Perhaps it is hardwood (oops, thought it was oak...hey, oops again. Fir is a hardwood?) timber framing that stirred my loins.

I watch video's of an English guy rebuilding a burned out Chateau in France. I was delighted to see him put pegs in the roofing frames. Looks classy. I hope you find a good home for the table. I knew a guy from Burns. One summer we built kitchen cabinets for a housing development in west Texas. I can't recall his name, over 40 years ago. I just remember his stepdad used to be governor. That's what he told me anyway.

I'm not from Russia, and it would be much nicer for me to find my native language (Ukrainian). But I'm from the city of Kharkiv. Here, everyone has always spoken Russian. I wouldn't say the translation is really good; we don't speak like that in real life. We don't construct sentences that way. But it has allowed me to watch your videos much more often. Before, I had to be in the right mood and have the energy to translate what you were saying in my head. Now I can watch your videos in the evening and just relax.

Those hand tools 2:31 *chef’s kiss*. I have never seen a mallet with a handle wrapped like that before, but I can see it being useful for timber framing in particular where every cut requires a chisel or plane to dress the edges. Good grip on your primary tool makes sense

great video as always, concerning the french translation, it is done with a strong canadian accent (from quebec). Second point, adding glue to this kind of carpentry can be counterproductive, and was rarely done in the old times, because it's preventing the wood from moving naturally. And if your pegs are tightly fitted it does the job perfectly (preferably with harder wood)

Definitely the tool with a high WAR rating for the company I work for is the mafell chain mortiser, as you mentioned you could have done with when cutting the mortises. Although its an amazing machine, I find that part of using amazing machines is realizing that they're still not super hero machines, they always have limitations. In case of the mortiser, its tricky to line up, doesn't leave a smooth edge and there can be some tear out. But damn its quick.

I am of Indian origin and Hindi is one my native languages - grew up speaking it. Your Hindi AI translation is legitimately the same as how a Hindi speaking Indian would speak. Not cringe or racist at all. In fact, I am in awe at how good the translation is, and how advanced these AI bots have become! Just ignore Apu - the ugly truth is that the Indian English accent DOES sound like that, it's just unfortunate they decided to make a caricature out of it, and the racists dogpiled on it. Because hey, it is not cool to be racist to black people or hispianic people, but it is always open season to be racist towards people of Indian origin (or Asians in general, and yes, India is in Asia).
