Lordy..my dad was like this.A Greek migrant.Would not throw a thing out! Serial hoarder.Died virtually buried under piles of accumulated crap.Before people start pointing fingers and accusations at me we tried our best but at the end of the day, it's a mental illness and unless someone wants help no one can help them..

The 3rd home was definitely from the 70’s and my favorite out of the 4. The party room was their home business which also explains the backyard. Whoever lived there loved gardening as well.

One thing I loved about all 4 homes was the separate kitchen to the living area. I despise this "open plan" living of today's designs.

House 3 had all kinds of stone fruit trees. I would say Peach, Plum, Nectarine, Apple, and probably a Cherry too. Along with a Mulberry. Would have been a great prolific garden at one stage. I think maybe Greek or Italians lived there, they were good for gardens and entertaining. The back shed could have been a carpentry business.

Just a guess but it looks like the 'owner' bought 3 homes and a vacant lot back in the day, had his/her dream home built on the vacant lot and had the rental income from the 3 pay the mortgage on the primary residence...maybe! My suspicions could be further confirmed by the extensive workshop behind the primary residence. Maybe the owner was early retired 'trades' and performed all the upkeep on the rentals himself? LoL Thanks for the explore, mate!

A good example of 4 different architectural styles in a local setting. If you lived in the 3rd house. the other houses would bring in nice income as rentals, though I'd need to employ a house keeper to keep a place that large clean inside as the garden and workshop would keep me happily busy. The device at the 14:00 mark looks to be the adjustable mechanism for a Drafting Table that's missing its top. No doubt the developers paid a very nice sum to secure all those properties. Oh how I crave for those long deep baths. I miss the old ones were you could lay fully submerged in the water, unlike the crappy shallow one of today where you have to have some part of you sticking out and getting cold.

Paul thanks again for a great explore of four different dating between the 1940s to the 1970s. This is what I remember about suburbian Adelaide. The emergence of fashionable interiors from the 1970s to the 1980s can also been seen in one of the homes. I also remember seeing the Spanish facade homes scattered throughout the suburbs of Adelaide during the 1970s. Unfortunately, Adelaide will become unrecognisable with so many houses demolished and new builds taking place.

Wow four in a row impressive, looks like the owner is sitting on a gold mine, I’d say investment properties, knock down and rebuild and then rent them out. nice facades the first house was cute and cosy, the Spanish style house right across the road from the shops very handy! The fourth house nice facade too a lot of salvage going on. Hmm a lot of oil on the floor at first it did look like blood 🩸 hehe naughty kids can get locked in the little room!! So, I'm not sad about these homes, just the landscaping- the Palms, and the glorious plants around the big house. I am assuming the owner had the big home built- it kind of screams 70's, with the brick, arched doorways, and paneling. It was sure really lavish, by any standards, even today. One thing that I love about the older homes, that are so lacking with the newer homes, is that there, as here, the homes were always smaller than the lot- there was always a huge lot, and a small home- giving the homeowner ample space for gardening, animal-keeping, laundry poles, green houses, work sheds, and whatever else they might need. Now, there are itty-bitty lots, and seemingly bigger houses with tiny rooms. One thing that did surprise me in the big house, was the small bedrooms. I was expecting fairly large rooms. I bet those homes were in a wonderful neighborhood back in their time, now they would be a nightmare to live in- in that shopping and rental district. I do feel sorry for the neighbors when the nightmare of demolition and construction begins. Oh, Paul- I was so proud of you- three houses...... no yelling birds, no jumping cats, no running foxes..... THEN the 4th house. The bird begins to scream in abject horror the very second you set foot on the property. I sadly shook my head. You're cursed. But, you're extremely talented in documenting these homes- thank you, lol. Great job. See you next round- SDK

Another fascinating vid Mate. 👍 My guess would be that with the main house that it was originally a blonde brick 50s or 60s build but had significant remodelling in the 70s to add the second floor and then further extensions in the 80s to add the glass brick entertainment room. Must have had some kind of home business for all the sheds and workshop areas.

Gday Paul thanks for yet again a great tour of these four homes l think the two story home was built in the late 70s early 80s In the early 60s 70s you could only get silver sliding windows it wasn’t until late 70s early 80s they came out with the coated brown sliding windows although some of the stained glass and lights screamed 70s cheers for today’s viewings

Knew exactly where these houses were at 0:45! As a kid, the Spanish house fascinated the hell outta me. It always caught my eye. In the 20+ years of either riding my pushy past it or shopping there, never had I'd seen anyone go in or out of that house. Not even on the balcony or in the front garden. Always had a uneasy vibe to it. Old people used to live in the first 2 houses back in the early 90's. Thanks for the tour👍😃

The ergonomics don't bode well for the new construct ,new studies show elevated stress levels affecting health in residents who are constantly exposed to traffic and noise pollution.I would say you are spot on for dates, the Mediterranean arches and wood paneling were a short lived style here in the mid /late 70s old nice working folks homes replaced by a hipsters bloc wow. The oil spill in the last house-- at first, I thought it must have been from a leaky container, but as you went through the rooms and I saw how it was distributed evenly throughout the rooms, I started thinking, "Oil is an accelerant: this may have been a preliminary move toward arson?"

Pausing it at 24:14 Theres a secret room behind a wooden slat door to the left of the wardrobe and a set of saloon looking small doors on the left into another secret room ……and also pausing it at 38:13 in the 2 storeys shed behind the rumpus room near the entrance way there’s a trap door leading down to an old cellar with a couple of barrels …..

Hello Urbex Indigo I'm thinking that a post war Europe person owned the white arched house and then brought the other three housed. The small back yards of the three houses made way for a big vegie and fruit trees and his other sheds. I'm thinking he may have been a builder saving anything he selvage from jobs. I have seen this before my dad was a great one for hanging on to bit and pieces so he could use it again he was from post war era as well. Thanks for this weeks videos Anne

Always love your explores. This one was really interesting. I think you are right, all owned by the same family. I’m thinking a Greek, Italian or other Mediterranean family lived in one of these, possibly rented out the others? Reason - I lived in Norwood as a child where there were a lot of Greek and Italian migrants, and it was common for Greek and Italian families to own two blocks, one for their house, the other for a small hobby farm to grow vegetables, own chickens, often with a green house. I’ve seen this in other areas too with Mediterranean migrants like Vale Park, Campbelltown, etc - So I think the long strip of gardens behind the houses is a dead give away. What do you think?

Interesting videos. Aa a kid i explored a abandoned houses, now I am scared to in case they fall in on me.

That last house had a bad vibe about it. It wasn't just the stains on the floor. The Spanish Mission style was popular here in the early 1970s. At its best it was quite effective but at its worst it just looked cheap. That house has had what look like 1980s additions to the rear.

Yeah that really pisses me off I can't stand kids going into abandoned buildings and poor oil all over the floor and then leave knowing the house is wide open for a stray animal to roam around and get oil all over their paws and then they lick and clean their paws and then they die because they've been poisoned, you would think parents would raise their children to be a little more compassionate when it comes to animals and private property.

The painting of "the lady standing in the bush" is a reproduction of a famous painting by Australian artist Fred McCubbin called 'Lost' which I think is in the National Gallery of Victoria. McCubbin is best known for his painting "The Pioneer". Another of his artworks (Down on His Luck") was defaced by protesters a couple of days ago. Keep up the good work!

Hi Paul, I used to live in unit 3/14 Chambers Street Marion, the block of 8 units, for 4 years, and I know my neighbours who live in the house next door, and lucky their house isn't being demolished. I sometimes went upstairs to the balcony and I could see the sheds and plants that the Italian rich family in the 2 storeys Greek looking mansion lived in! They were Italian, not Greek, and she loved her vegie garden and he loved to potter with cars, making things, fixing things, as he was a retired mechanical engineer, and even though the house had a Spanish look to it, they were Italian, pizza 🍕 land. I know I heard complaints from back neighbours in street behind about rats and mice plagues, so Marion Council would have been on their back about putting baits down. Do you know that there is a cellar outside near shed and a secret room upstairs? I quite like this home apart from too much 70's wall panels and I love the entertainment area out back, cool for parties! I used to love living right across from Parkholme shopping centre, so convenient!

Nice little family homes except for the last one although none of them were anything special. Too new to have special touches to them.

Well sadly with each of these homes to many renovations had happened over the years and not much historical details remained. I did notice though the front door on the first place and last place where of the same type and vintage which was cool . I think that last house had some cool woodwork from the past with those locked doors . Wow that two story seemed to go on for a bit . Each and every one of these once well loved homes . Saw a couple probably just married move in , had a family raised the family and saw grandchildren as well . Those yards in the back other then the one which looked like it was a recycling depot where beautiful I am sure . Looked like these properties took up at least half if not all of a city block . In their place will be built cheep expensive condos which will have absolutely no character. Oh that huge Bird Of Paradise bush in front of the one home was beautiful. The neighborhood will now see and hear less of those beautiful birds which are alway singing and communicating with one another in your videos . Oh and vandals sure did make a mess in that last place maybe the place had been a rental and the vandal was angry they where displaced by the sale of the property or the person plans to return and torch the place . I am fascinated with that contraption 13:57. Some ancient weights exercise machine? But the branding that's very old fashioned writing 30's to 50's maybe and the phone number is that XL 2636? 🤔 Obviously no longer at Advantage Rd Highett. Owner likely they were European immigrants maybe something to do with home building. Typical they were laborious folk, so any repairs they did hence all the doors and trims etc, self sufficient, loved plants, gardening. They did well for themselves with 4 addresses but I wouldn’t want to have lived next to my landlord. The last one had a weird fireplace and cubby as he did it for his daughter and grand kids I betcha

had to come back to this one after i just learnt of the local legend known as the the scrooge , apparently his empire of development & rental served him well , your balcony footage was perfect & as he viewed it from across the road of his shops , he collected the rents every late friday in cash ! so it was assumed it was stashed in the house , upon these rumours kids especially have been tearing this house apart , 25:20 is a good example .

I would love to know the story behind those 4 houses particularly the big two storey house. The big house reminds me of my Greek uncle who has done well in his life and has a big Mediterranean house.

Each home was a decade older. For one family to build one home per decade. Grandparents in the 40s home, their kids in the 50s home, grand kids in the 60s 70s home?? Just a thought. Still some nice features in each home left though. Cheers for the explore!!😀👍
