Want to join us on an adventure next year? seek-discomfort.com/yes-theory
Here's the deal.. After Ammar took Seekers on adventures this year and also sponsored Nelly Attar to climb K2, I would like to also say thank you to those who support us through Seek Discomfort this holiday by taking a small group of 3 of you who purchase from Seek this Holiday on an adventure somewhere next year. We will contact the 3 adventurers by January 31st. If you have already purchased this holiday, you're already good to go :) if you'd like a chance to join me, you know where to go! ⚡️ ⚡️ ⚡️
🙏🏼 Thank you for making these videos possible through your support of Seek Discomfort
When it comes to what happened at the end.. It really shook me, we felt with the local team that we'd really prepared the best we could but sometimes unexpected problems like this one can happen. We've checked several times and everyone there is fine, they were really just looking for me. Nothing like this had really happened before even though I have experience traveling to Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Mauritania and I understand that there are things you can and cannot do. I went home after this trip to mentally recuperate and recharge.

To Thomas and the team, it's been a journey with Yes theory for 6years now, I always dreamed of this day when you'll visit one part of my country and show it to the world. The Baka or Pygmies mean a lot to Cameroon. Though I'm from the part of Cameroon colonized by England, i still feel very proud and honored by you visiting my country and telling our story to the world. This is what it means to live in a "democratic" dictatorship everyday. On behalf of all Cameroonians i feel honored. Hopefully the future will bring you hear again and we'll have a better story to tell. There's always hope in the Horizon. I love this family. Yes Theory forever ♾️.

As a Cameroonian, I really appreciate when people travel to Cameroon and tell the stories without any biases/presumptions. I am happy for you, that you got to experience this part of Cameroon, as many of us never get this far outside of our comfort zones. But I also really empathise with what you had to go through at the end of this experience and I hope it does not discourage any other plans you guys had for travelling around this beautiful continent. A well is a very common source of drinking water. At my parent's house, we actually dug one and sent out to the community where people could get free drinking water. So I will be happy to contribute to a cause that can provide one for this community. The Yes Theory team continues to inspire me to think different and be more open and this video did just that. As I travel and make videos my self, I try to keep this in mind. Thank you for what you do - and please keep doing what you do. It reaches more people than you can imagine 😇

Our group even did a hunting/gathering trip into the jungle with them like you and were covered in ants and spiders like you were. So many memories. We also brought gifts of food, medicine and things like soccer balls. We didn't speak the same language though. We had a translator with us that spoke Indonesian and English. A few of their town elders spoke Indonesian. Their food, which was pulp from the Sago trees, was very difficult to get down.

For years i've always been concerned about the decline of these native cultures due to influence from the wider world, but after seeing your conversation at night with that young man I can't help but wonder if it's a good thing at all to stifle the curiosity of such young people. It's an interesting thing to consider, and has definitely helped reshape the way I considered remote cultures around the world. I still don't know what to think about this, but thanks for the perspective Thomas.

I'm taking a class on educational communication and in it we had to study the ethics of having people 'leave their tribe'. It focused on how any education can radically shift someone's perspective irreversibly from that which they were raised, even say a liberal arts education. I argued that it is unethical to withhold education but we can't control how someone may interpret things and what they choose to do with their new outlook. I feel that education tears down prejudices and stereotypes so that we can be more empathetic to those outside of our tribe because we are given the gift of critical thinking.

The night talk makes me cry... For so long we have forgotten that, regardless of race, language, culture, we are all brothers and sisters. Nature separated us thousands years ago, that's why we now look, sound, think different, but whoa.. what stays the same, is the subtle affection for each other, the curiosity, the kids laughing, the music, the need for community.. these are in the core of our human soul.. Thank you for making this video, it is truly beautiful.

That's a shame about how the trip ended. He looked very nervous and uncomfortable the whole time, I guess things have changed over there. I visited the Baka in a different part of Cameroon many years ago. The group lived deep in the forest and we built huts together, cooked together, did each other's hair, wove belts, goofed around, and laughed around the fire each night. The forest was thick, lush and dark. There was no tension or discomfort. I guess things have changed now. The huts were a little different style and all the people dressed traditionally, there were no western clothes.
