Bravo Dustin, you did it again. You turned an equipment failure into an interesting story to ponder. You have me sitting here on a Saturday morning wondering what happened to someone's dream. Keep up the good work. Safe travels
There is a place like this above my cabin in the Rockies. Started....and so close to being finished. Walked away from it about 3 years ago judging from material receipts on the property. I would say a solid 5 days of work would complete the place. The small cabin has a deck that spans a small mountain stream. Wood stove installed, roof completed, just needs flooring and some finish work. I tracked down the land owners. The former wife of the owner responded. Divorce seems to have killed the dream. I asked her to pass a message to her ex. I offered to buy the place OR he could pay me to finish it up.....anything but let it rot. No response. The place is a paradise...for those without the emotional history. To him, perhaps a horrible reminder of a failed relationship? Anyway...I thought of that place while I watched this video. Motivated me to reach out one more time.
As a journeyman carpenter who has built one floor ranchers in 14 days... I could make that thing livable in a week.. except for the current wait times in Windows and doors.. 🤷
Such a pity it stalled out but it happens so easily. Getting those materials there was difficult. I would guess they were active on site 2005-2008. Sad to see it failed.
That is a shame. It looked like they were doing a real fine job on the house as well. I am surprised nobody came along before now and finished it up, just for the fun of it. They had all of the time consuming hard part finished. Slap the roof on, put some windows in and hang some doors and it would have been a real TADA! moment. Beautiful lot and view. It does not get any better then that.
Being a gearhead, I spend too much time seeing what my fellow sufferers are up to. What I've been shown is the wide disparity of quality in videography. You, my friend have skill and a great eye. I thank you.
Maybe start looking at plots of ground to buy Dustin… Put up a pole barn you can drive into and work on your rig and build a nice little off grid cabin ❤ Adventuring is nice but so is hunting around and filling your freezer for winter ❄️ whatever you choose it’s your ability to story tell that makes your channel. Starlink makes it possible to upload videos out in the backcountry.
Yo Dustin! Greeting from Northern California. Glad I found your channel. Such fun watching you explore. That Frick’n view is amazing. Imagine sip’n coffee on the deck in the morning. Anyways, I got a ton of DA videos to get watch’n so I’m gonna Whip-it!!
Smoke is crazy this year. I'm in Peace River and we have been under a blanket all spring and summer. Air quality advisories every day. Every year I spend my holidays in NW BC and the Yukon. Think I might head East this year. Cant stand the smoke anymore!
WOW: That Jet boat is a beauty.. The house on the hill, Dustin, you should do a land search, and see if you can buy it, and rebuild that beautiful house.
Wow that house was in a awesome location!! So sad that they didn’t get to finish it. Thanks for taking us a long!! As always we will look forward to your next video address! Be safe
Thank you for you content. Loved your truck build and all of you adventures! I’m from o ratio and explored a bit of the west cost I’m an 89 gmc candies with my wife and kids and can confirm the beauty the mountains contain! Thank you thank you keep sending it with your videos!
What an spot for a cabin....would like to know the history behind it....perhaps it could be yours in the future eh Justin... Keep them coming and stay safe 😊
Great little cabin to bad it was not finished 😢Did you get your vhf put in while you were back? Have a great week heading out can’t wait to see we’re your going😊
Dustin I think I would ck out that property the cabin is on to see if it's for sale..Looks like a good start and what a view... Stay safe and take care my friend...
You should track down the owner(s) and see if they would sell it. Obviously some love and care put into it, they might want to see it go to someone with a similar love for the location...
Likely the builder had a catastrophic health problem, but - wow! - what a beautiful spot! Thanks for showing us. I always have that inward “let’s finish this” feeling when I see something like this cabin.

WOW! Dustin it would be great if you found out who it belongs too and even better if you took it off their hands and finished it off! Now that would be an amazing renovation series to watch 👍 thanks as always for your amazing content
@@Destination_Adventure I can hook you up with the owner, he's my neighbour. And NOT keen on random trespassers, so you lucked out that day. The reality of this "off grid" cabin is really quite prosaic, it's an abandoned B&B cabin. There was no water found when they test drilled after they started building, and there were some issues with powerline right of way. That's it. (And you missed filming the "Private Property" sign at the start of the trail where you hiked in. That neighbour wouldn't be thrilled to know you were wandering about on their land either, but would likely have given you permission if you'd stopped for a chat.) We're rural out here on Soda Creek-Macalister Road, but hardly in the untamed wilderness! These places are deeded; people own them; just because they're "cool" it doesn't mean "Wander on in."
@@sarahd5341 Fair enough, cute, cleverly shot, though perhaps overly dramatic video, but it's not remote, and the structure is privately owned, on posted land. Just because rural properties are "interesting", it doesn't mean it's okay to just wander across them at will. If this was in your town backyard, in your personal fenced area with a Private Property sign on the gate, would you be cool with someone just tromping around filming your stuff? Even if they were "just looking"? Do you know how much our liability insurance is costing us on these rural properties, and how many reasons there are for us knowing who is wandering about, and what they're up to? Property damage and theft is absolutely a concern of every rural landowner, and we have no idea if the random trespasser is a RU-vid star or a potential thief or vandal. This place is literally someone's backyard. And it borders on my backyard. This is an actively and obviously populated neighbourhood, not some middle-of-nowhere random ruin!
@@cariboo12345 If Dustin had seen a no Trespassing sign, we wouldn't have seen this video. Same as if there had been a fence. That's just the type of guy he is. Not knowing the area Myself, Maybe there needs to be more No trespassing signs out? Maybe closer together?
Lots of broken or abandoned dreams in the Cariboo and places where families were raised , then abandoned as families moved on to their own dreams and adventures. Many kids in the Cariboo lived in the middle of nowhere , schooled by correspondence and only came to town for their grade 12. No phones , messages were transferred by am radio on certain days and times. Lots of lost history.
I watched that cabin being built in the early 90's, just when I immigrated to the area coming from Germany. Always wondered who owned it and why it never got finished. The area along the Fraser between McAlister and Soda Creek is just spectacular. Only a few kilometers downstream from the cabin was a reaction ferry that operated until the '90's.The high plateau above the cabin is accessible via the Duckworth Lake Road and offers fantastic views overlooking the Fraser and the old Soda Creek townsite.
Yeah the views are fantastic up there, my bro moved up to the Thompson River Estates, his place sits on the bluff over looking the Thompson River & the CP & CN running along the river. Just gorgeous, especially the sun rises & sets. Just not the view(s) of the rattle snakes that view is aweful. 😂 or the prickly cacti if you aren't looking where you step.
That cabin was built very well and attention to detail and everything, what a shame. Something probably happened to the person building it (health wise I bet) :/
Wow. What a beautiful location, Dustin. That cabin could be a charm. Town, or county, records should have info about that property. Smoke had been quite bad here in New England, due to fires in Quebec, but it has now cleared. Thanks for taking us along. Be safe, blessings
@@Destination_Adventure Sure is. You can Google Mackinac bridge south pole and see some articles about me. Decided to do this while doing the Great Loop. Love your videos!
Oh Dustin hope you dont mind I reported 25 ppl on your site for unwanted commercial crap for crypto currency. Hate that ppl put their advertising crap on ppls comment section. Seems to me they are too cheap to buy space for their own vids. They brag how much $ they make, its not from crypto its from piggy backing off streamers & saving advertising.
It may have been a short video, but it was so good. I don't know if I would like the boat ride you had or not, but I would give it a try. It's a shame that the person who chose that cabin spot didn't get to fulfill their dream. It would be amazing to sit on the deck every morning with a cup of coffee and enjoy the river and nature. Thank you for taking us with you! God's blessing on you from Proctor Minnesota!
While you’re home for a little while, you should think about fixing the headliner in the expedition rig. It will make your “in cab” experience a lot better. A couple of spray cans of super trim adhesive from the auto parts store, pull out the headliner, glue the fabric to the backing, and put it back in. If the material isn’t salvageable, then you can use about any kind of lighter weight fabrics…maybe a grey to match the back glass covering. I really enjoy your content. Stay safe!
Thanks Dustin for documenting a place that none of us would likely ever of seen in a lifetime... it's an awesome spot you found in the backyard of the cariboo...amazing drone shots! it's nice that someone once had a dream there...
Even during downtime, you still manage to bring us an adventure. That ride on the river looked like a lot of fun, but it's the unfinished cabin and view that got me. All the possibilities, and the stories. My imagination runs wild with creating stories of why that cabin was never finished.
My bet is he passed away or became physically disabled. They were a craftsman making those tight joints. If he had kids elsewhere I can see it being tied up in the estate settlement and why it is still like that. Settlements can take years. Sad. Buy it my friend and AirBnB it.
Maybe there was going to be a second story and maybe local regulations forbid some of the things they were trying to do. Many times gov't ruins those dreams.
Love the music choices today! Looks like the makers of the cabin are more recent, but they didn't leave a ton of debris behind which is an improvement on that mining site a few weeks ago. Wonder what stopped them from finishing. Hope the smoke doesn't make you sick. Stay safe!
You are one Cool Dude! I’m a seventy year old grandma from Ontario. I’ve been following you from the beginning. I admire your ethic and your capability. I enjoy being able to see our beautiful country through your videos. BC has so much to offer with its rich history. I wonder what you could find here in Ontario? ❤️🇨🇦
Jeez, I hope the owner doesn't like their privacy. Right now from what I'm reading there's around a hundred people doing everything they can to find out about everything him or her.
BC has so much beautiful scenery, throughout the Province. The only drawback is that everything from gas to food to accommodations, is so highly expensive. Another Great Video !! Thank You !!
BUY IT DUSTIN!!!! It would be sooooooooo cool to see your channel expand into a second offshoot to fix this place up and make it your dream!. It's stunning!
It's a damn shame they left the cabin like that. It reflects how our own potential can be wasted for different reasons. When something carries so much promise but never gets to display it's true self, I will do what I can to make it complete; So listen here! If it's hot out, you are allowed to take your shirt off! Also vitamin D 🔆
That cabin is incredible!! What a perfect spot to build a home, I wonder what the story is behind it. Next to that amazing view what struck me was the quiet. So blissfully silent. Awesome video as always!
I was obviously, most definitely born and raised in the wrong part of the world.. but I will see those places thanks to this channel!! Awesome as always my friend 👊👊
There must be a road to that cabin, you can’t do a cement pour without a road for the big trucks to get there. That would be a perfect little summer cabin & the view is wonderful and the sunsets would be beautiful there.
You have to wonder what the story behind this place is. Did they pass, run out of money, or motivation? Wouldn't it be nice to pick up the property from where they left off and finish the dream.
Amazing hey certainly a professional log home build based upon the quality, stopped in its tracks many possibilities as to what happened. A trip to the BC Land Titles office in Prince George $25 later the property owner could possibly be identified. But sometimes these unknowns are best left alone. Still what a location its hard not envisioning the build completed. Kinda reminds me of the complete but abandoned party house and apartments in season 1 all three slowly being reclaimed by the land. Good adventure none the less.
hi you young man are amazing really like your videos makes me feel like un rught there you have such good attiude, smiles thank you for BEEING YOU you diane bolt ONTARIO CANADA
As a contractor that was remodeling an old barn into a really cool house but the customer pulled the plug on it as we were a bit along in it, i can really feel what it would have been like to have to leave this project undone. What a shame. Thanks for sharing it with us

When I lived in Saucier Mississippi a young couple built a almost complete home. All that was left to do was windows and interior. After working a year on their days off from their jobs. One day they were going down Hwy 49 and were killed. The property was tied up in Probate Court because they had no Will. When I found out about it the property had been vacant for 5 years I had been told.😢
