Site C-47 was where I was stationed in 1960-61. I worked in the Launch area as the Component Supply Specialist (763.18) (E-4) for quite some time and also worked in the Supply Room in the Main area where the Mess and Sleeping Quarters were. The TTR and MTR and Motor Pool were in this main area also. My responsibility in the Launch Area was to keep all components in ready for the Maintenance Specialist. We maintained the Nike Ajax missiles at the Launch Area and the refueling area was here also (refueling was a dangerous procedure). I was not on the refueling crew. I was also on the launch crew. We had a lot of 'Hot Battery' drills. My last two months I was the Acting Supply Sergeant due to the Supply Sergeant being ill. Sergeant Mann was our 1st Sergeant. I do not remember the Supply Sergeant’s name. Due to the Base Security my wife never got to go on the Base. I was discharged in February, 1961.
Thank you for your service and thank you for all that information that is really cool and interesting to find out about these bases I really want to go check one of these out sometime
I live right down the road from it. Couple years ago I just walked right in it's pretty cool. There are stairs that go down near the missiles but it's all flooded out
My Great Uncle was stationed there in 1964-1965. He passed away years ago, but he did sometimes speak of the place. He was a radar repairman and was quite busy. He hated most was the cold weather and being woke up to fix a problem that a E4 should’ve been able to fix in the first place. He also said everyone there kept quiet on things as most responses were….”None of your business.”
Yeah I was going to check that one out because it wasn't too far away from me but then I found out a news article that some Factory is putting a complex on a portion of the property so so much for that and a lot of people in that area were really upset about it because they liked it how it was quiet and now it's going to be all busy because of that
We had our drivers ed classes there in the mid/late 70’s on the range with Les Klein over each cars radio from atop a centralized perch about 50 ft up.
I am currently working on a video for the second half of this base. It's the Integrate Fire Control which is now a paintball field with all the buildings and radar towers. There will be a lot more talking and info on this.
I really like the fact that they build a special kennel area for the guard dogs at these vases that was really cool and in one exploring video of a different base way out east still have the names of the dogs that were last there I thought that was pretty cool too
I lived and worked around Bristol Ri where they turned a nike missile site into dorm rooms for roger Williams University. It was called nike hall and it was a friggin dump
I remember a teacher in school Said the soviet union had would use missiles to hit n.w indiana because of all the factories here that could help the u.s. in a war.im sure this base is part of the defense of that.
Really great video thanks for the info on the building's putting the names of of what they were two I just got done going a couple of months ago and checking out an old army base unfortunately I was asked to leave after being there for about 5 hours but at least it was cool that I got to see some of it
Good footage but I hope you've worked on your editing skills in the last 3 years. The shots of the assembly building were too long. That stationary shot should have been trimmed to like 10secs. I started jumping from building to building so I didn't have to wait so long. This video could have been 25% shorter and better, if you had edited it.
