An 1889 Montana homestead house, on the brink of being lost, is about to be saved. From rebuilding the stone foundation, to milling wood from the surrounding forest, to putting back the windows and doors: this old cabin is coming back to life. Join us for a multi-episode series documenting the struggles and joys of saving a piece of history. We will harvest materials from the land and delve deep into the history of the Wild West.
Watch as we walk out into the forest to cut trees. Then wheel out the Woodmizer LT-40 sawmill to cut and mill all the lumber we will need for this project. If you love experimental archaeology or building houses or crafting handmade furniture, then this series will be immensely satisfying. From hand tools to complex power tools, there is something for every project person.
We are three friends with a passion for history, building, and everything handmade. One grew up 5th generation on this Montana ranch. One studied architecture and design in the big city. And one of us mastered the art of photography and editing. Come along with our group of friends as we put our blood, sweat and tears into building a house from the land.

Thank you so much! Your comments + thoughts are always enjoyed. We plan to release a video every week to show the journey. Up next will be videos on the silo falling on the old combine (ouch) and then a big logging/forestry episode. Glad you came through Lewistown! It’s a charming little town most people don’t know about 😉

I loved this, especially the history and the poems. would it be too difficult to include who lived on the land before settlers? that's also part of the history I guess? excited to see how this project shapes up. what a beautiful bit of the world it is.

Cheers! Love your comment-I agree; we need to talk about the many lives and cultures that surely must have lived here before western settlers arrived. The history is hard to find, but we want to talk about it. Stick with us & we will delve deeper.

Cool idea. Our roots are important to research and record. I would encourage you to grab a metal detector and search the area. You may discover some interesting tidbits.

Great advice! In fact-we JUST tried metal detecting there a few weeks ago. I believe we have the footage coming in episode 3. We want to have a proper metal detectorist scour the cabin area this spring when the ground warms up.

So excited for this series! Thank you for the opportunity to come alongside the build, and to learn more about the Montana and family history of the area. Can't wait to see how you incorporate what you salvage into what you build anew. Sent with love from WA!

He already tells everyone Gramma and him are headed to the woods, to practice survival??? This ties in with our area history so well! Cannot wait for the next one!
