there is now a big fence up around the property. I visited this summer (live nearby) and talked with the guys putting up the fence. they were fed up with vandals and trash.

Cool..would love to see it restored,would be beautiful..Back before we had kids,we use to go exploring in the woods in North Cove,NC when we lived in that area..found quite a few old foundations of homesteads in the deep woods,some with partially standing chimneys.Amazing what you find just walking in the woods..
Ok, so i read that he was building the house and his wife died and he was to depressed to finish the house. Some say she is still alive but they are now divorced, so the house is in limbo. The article i read was dated July 22, 2016, the pics of the castle don't look as bad as in the video tho, and this is dated 2yrs prior 2014. Anyhow the woman who had taken the pics, had drawn his attention and he showed interest in finishing the place he even started a go-fund-me page and she donated $200 and he had other donors also but, he never raised enough so the money was returned. He was glad to see people were interested in the place and if he had raised the money he promised to have a big party there, also in the pics there was one of his sculptures in the house an angel holding a cross lol i'm sure it's gone now or even broken by the freakin vandals. That's all i could find out, i hope you all found the story interesting, i did. Thanx

I'm in Raleigh so not far away at all. He stopped building due to his wives death. The outside was complete, and the inside was not all the way complete. (obviously) but when his wife died he stopped. He wanted half to be his house and the other half his studio. He also had stated that he started to seriously think about going back in late 2014 but its 2016 most doubt he will. Pretty sad situation. You lose your soulmate and oh how life can change in a snap. The stone probably can be saved but it would have to be gutted, such a waste of money. I pray he finds peace. Thank you for the video.

Also the castle was built in 2005 and in January of 2016 a fence was being put around the place to either keep vandals out or rehab the place. That would be nice!
That is amazing. I'm originally from Knoxville, TN and have only recently seen the Biltmore house there in Asheville, but this place is neat. Even though it is rundown, it's still a grand place. You're brave doing all the climbing. My hubby and I used to go out and explore old mining sites in the middle of nowhere in Kofa Wildlife Range outside of Yuma, AZ. Lots of washes look like canyons when you're down in the washes and so my hubby liked to climb the faces of those. Not me. Too chicken. That and I was too busy looking for wildcats and gold nuggets in the busted up quartz. lol.

Who did you talk to in order to get on the land? A friend and I were out that way but everything was fenced off and padlocked with cameras since it's private property. There were no trespassing signs and there wasn't a number to call :/
i Love these videos... don't understand why SOMEONE doesn't take over these beautiful buildings BEFORE they're falling into too bad of a conditon to fix and make them beautiful and usefull again..

Just enjoyed seeing it...too bad all the windows were broken out...Vandals are such a waste to ALL of the empty properties out there. I don't understand why they must destroy....If you have to leave your presence known....write on the wall...that can be covered up....Thank you for your video......

Why hasn't the North Carolina state governmwnt offered to buy, restore, and declare this a state monument? Could ask for donars to help restore it and make money off the land as a tuorist peice.
I went up there today. If it was finished it would be beautiful. The only bad thing is that long ass driveway. Its fenced in and someone has built a house beside it.
I live right up the road from this place. Last I heard, he didn't make his fundraising goal to start rebuilding. I have been there a few times. It is absolutely gorgeous, but a very sad sight at the same time. Don't know what the latest info is on the place. If someone does know, I would like to hear about it.
I really wish he could! So sad for such a wonderful dream to go to ruin. Don't really have any money to donate, but would be glad to donate mine and my family's time to help out. Neighbor helping neighbor.

It is not for him! It is for his daughter. He was building this castle for her when tragedy struck his family and he gave up on his dream. Maybe if someone treated you the same as you are suggesting he be treated, you wouldn't be so close minded and have ill will towards others. Unless you know the story, don't stick your foot in your mouth and make yourself look like the biggest jerk ever! Besides, I said donate time, not money. If you don't have time to donate to help others, get off your phone, computer, ipod, or whatever and grow some social skills!
